This will be simple and sweet as it was a shorter visit. It my friend that was in town visiting from Miami decided to continue our outing at A Loft's WXYZ Bar. Now I'm not that big of a drinker but I won't turn down a good Cosmo. Again, I know how to make cocktails so I'm pretty picky. The one I ordered was a bit on the limey side and I didn't finish the whole thing but it made for a nice way to end the evening. Besides getting to hang out with my friend and lounging back and sipping on a cocktail, what I thought was so cool was thee coolest part of the place, were the board games in the back corner tucked away. I wish we had seen them earlier because I totally would have played UNO or Connect 4 if they had it. I saw playing cards and Monopoly and Battleship but I loved how they had it in the bar area. I think as adults we lose that child like innocence and I do my best to retain it, but this lounge was casual and relaxing. The bartender was also very nice and apparently it was his first day at that location as he transferred from another one to help out for the week. He was very friendly and made sure that we enjoyed our cocktails. I've been to this same bar while staying at the A Loft back home in Coral Gables so I was the one who recommended it to my friend who was staying there at the one here in Philly. I also saw they had a fun outdoor seating area with these giant neon lights and trendy patio furniture but it was closed so we stayed inside and sat at this half circular booth. I would have loved to try a small bite to eat but the kitchen was closed at the time we went but what I wanted was more so like a dessert. They had a snack area where you could buy some treats or other convenient items, but I passed on that. I settled on my drink and that was that. I would most definitely be back, but next time around, I would bring out a board game to add to the fun:)

Horrible service, the bartender didn't know how to make any of the drinks and he had to read step by step what to do. Also complained that we ordered two drinks off the menu instead of ordering something straight. On top of that he had his friends come in and just chatted with them loudly and told them not to order food off the menu as it was nothing special...and I was going to order something but just wanted to get the heck out of there

Cute place to get drinks with friends for a night out. Just make sure you get a good area to sit and relax. We were fortunate to end up with a cozy couch corner but it would have sucked to come a little later and not have that as an option like others I saw. Drinks were par for the course but this was centrally located and in the Aloft hotel so a pretty good find!

Stayed at the hotel. The ladies working at the bar went above and beyond. Korean wings were delicious. Would recommend.

WXYZ Bar in Center City Philadelphia is a really great space to have a drink with friends. (See my photos). It is located partly in the soaring lobby of the Aloft Hotel and then there is the wonderful outdoor terrace called the Backyard. This is a former bank building so it has many interesting architectural features which the restoration brought out and then it got updated with some modern pizzazz. The outdoor space has a fire pit and varied chill seating along with an awesome view of the iconic Frank Furness designed Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, On a fair afternoon or evening this is a good place to gather and then head out to wherever your next destination is in Center City. Drinks are on the expensive side as cocktails always are in Philly but they are decent enough without being wow exceptional. I have always found the personnel to be friendly. But the attractive space is the real highlight here. Hey and there's even a pool table. What more do you want?

We stayed at Aloft, so W XYZ was an easy choice for us one night when we needed a later bite to eat. The bartender was very friendly and mixed up some good drinks - the "Dirty Cherry" was our favorite. We ordered a pepperoni flatbread and a special for National French Fry Day - pepperoni pizza fries. Since I'm gluten-free, there weren't a ton of options for me, but the fries did not disappoint! The only downside is that the service from the kitchen was very slow. Luckily we didn't have to rush anywhere since we were just going upstairs. We'd go back again if we were staying at Aloft, but wouldn't make a special trip there.

While the ambience of the place is nice and the location is convenient, particularly for guests of the Aloft Hotel, the drinks are subpar. I ordered the strawberry cocktail and when the bartender pulled out the box of strawberries to slice the fruit, I noticed that half the box contained moldy strawberries. This obviously put me off immediately. A friend ordered the margarita without the jalapenos, which she said was not of good quality. The only saving grace (at least in my mind) are the various board games and yard games available (life size jenga, connect 4, and a pool table)!
