I'd been to the Chinatown food court a few days ago and just had to come back - this time to try "Ocean Garden", a Taiwanese food stall that also got a lot of good reviews. Seriously this food court is awesome b/c the food is cheap AND authentic - not like the mall court where the food is just cheap (I mean, is that stuff real Italian? And what about the Cajun food?). Last Wednesday, Chong Qing Hot Pot was hopping - today it was Ocean Garden (with Hong Kong BBQ in 2nd place). I couldn't believe how many people were waiting in line - b/c my friend & I thought the food was just ok. Then again, we're judging based on two dishes: Pogo chicken and beef noodle soup.I got the Pogo chicken b/c Michael L's review said it made him want to sing :) Pogo chicken is pieces of deep-fried dark meat that's been marinated. The chicken arrives hot but I thought the chicken got more flavorful as the chicken cooled down. The $5.50 dish is great value, and came with rice covered in some kind of brown mystery (but tasty) sauce, pickled diced (also mystery) veggies (tasted great with the chicken), baby bok choy (bland), and Szechuan-style green beans (yum!). We had a hard time deciding the 2nd dish so I asked the cashier for her recommendations. She said the beef noodle soup was very popular so that's what we got. When the soup arrived, I thought it looked similar to pho - but it definitely didn't taste like it. The broth was pretty salty and almost as dark as soy sauce. Neither of us cared for the beef - the texture was like braised beef and it had a stinky taste to it. I had a hard time finishing this one.Portions for both dishes were VERY generous and I'd strongly recommend going family-style at this place. The menu had a lot going on and based on the long lines, I'd definitely come back to try the other dishes - maybe beforehand walk around, see what everyone else was eating, and let that decide what I'm going to order :) Overall I'd give this place 3.5 stars.

I am diggin' this place.Ordered the garlic pork and thought it was super tasty. It has a sweet and salty flavor, which I am a huge fan of. They mix it up with a medley of veggies all sliced pretty thin like the pork. For $5.50, this is a winner.Next, we ordered the steamed beef buns but I feel like I should have just stuck with one order. There was a TON of food. I'm talkin' about ordering enough to feed like 4 people between the 2 of us. This isn't a bad thing since I like the whole "bang for your buck" type of places, I just wish I knew that with every order apparently we get endless soup as well. That being said, the beef buns were NOT that great ($6 for 10 beef buns). It lacked a lot of flavor, but after dipping it in my own soysauce concoction it was good. Just needed that extra kick of saltiness. I like how it was NOT overly salty, because my mom has to watch how much salt intake she gets. The soup they offer (for free? comes with the meal?) is an egg drop type of soup, along with this porridge soup that tasted really bland. Stick with the egg drop soup. Along with serving yourself soup, I also liked that you get to scoop your own rice and get as much as you want. I'm not sure if this is a standard for Chinatown, but since this is my 2nd time here, 2 out of 2 places have offered "scoop-my-own" rice service, which is a-okay with me because that means ENDLESS RICE for me!Total price? $12 ish bucks for 1 meat dish, 10 meat buns, endless soup, and endless rice. This place is heaven for all my frugal people out there.

It's true....this place is not what it used to be. My typical order of Ji Pai Fan looked similar....but did NOT have the same tasty flavor in the chicken as it used to have. Still a great deal regardless, but....I'm just so sad about this.

This place makes my favorite Chinese style breakfast like savory rice balls (fan-tuan), fresh hot soy milk, fried dough (you-tiao)...etc. It's located in the food court area inside the Chinatown shopping center. It's pretty cheap, too. Two rice balls and a bowl of soymilk for about five bucks. They also sell other Taiwanese specialties like beef noodle soup, fried stinky tofu, pork chop rice, and other stuff. The only downside to this place is its location. This shopping center is just not a pleasant one to walk through. It's pretty tacky. They have this Chinese garden inside the shopping center with signs in Chinese that says something like "do not spit". Go figure...

I rated this one star b/c the food at Ocean Gardens with the new owners are bad. I wanted to share with all my fellow taiwanese food lovers in Atlanta that the original owners of Ocean Garden has reopened!!! They have a new place in the Great Wall Supermarket on Pleasant Hill off of exit 104. When you walk in, its the second fast food place on the left, called Ping's Place. My husband and I went there today after our friend informed us that it just reopened and let me begin by telling you all that it was the same. We had the pork chop and rice, the dry noodles (sta chang mien), the wonton soup, and the rice burrito (fan twan), and they were DELICIOUS!! Don't be worried when you first go there and don't see the original owner, he was in the back. I was a little concerned when I first walked up there and noticed other people. His daughter and him were both there, just in the back helping out. I hope this makes everyone's day, as much as it did for my husband and I today!! Our favorite taiwanese place is back!!

I.AM.SO.SAD. This place use to be the BEST Taiwanese food joint EVER!Salt and pepper chicken was AWESOME Beef noodle soup is THE BESTPogo chicken or fried pork chop on rice was SO GOOD, and u get so much food for a really cheap price...milk tea was BOMB...And omg..there was so much more good stuff...but sadly...I went 6 months ago and realized the owner changed. But I thought maybe the nice old man went on a vacation with his kids that always comes work with him..so I decided to order the chicken nuggets because I had been craving them for like forever! Sadly....it was not the same...actually...it was the opposite of what it use to be......bad......T___T...I wonder if the previous owner went to open up another restaurant some where...

Ocean Garden lies hidden within a small rundown strip mall which surprising enough is called "Chinatown". The food is very inexpensive and you definitely get your bang for your buck. Their Za Jiang noodles were pretty good. Spicy cold noodles were average. The minced beef over rice was also OK. It was a pretty authentic Chinese experience. I would like to go back to try other things on the menu. The food probably deserves a 3.5 star so it has potentials to become a four star.

They moved to the shopping place at Great Wall Supermarket in the food court. Love it when the owners cook, but WHAT IS THE SENSE in serving bad food when you want great Taiwanese food, not food cooked by spanish cooks who don't even understand what they are fixing really. When the old man and woman cook, food is great - see the 5 ft tall cooks, be warned - mediocre at best. Do have to love the tea cakes two doors down from Taiwanese women and Viet husband, they are great.
