The Streetcar Cafe is an excellent "hole in the wall" restaurant off the beaten path. On the South side of Canal, it was an easy walk from a few area hotels. The Gumbo was one of the best gumbos I've ever had. It was thick and rich like a Kardashian. It was packed with flavor and a few drops of Crystal hot sauce made it sing! Why is Crystal only good on Cajun/Creole food? The biscuit had a consistency somewhere between a regular biscuit and soft bread, which I thought was amazing. I wanted to go back for Biscuits and Gravy but ended up trying that somewhere else. The biscuit and Gumbo was great, though (even at 7p).The Jambalaya was good too. Lots of rice and not soupy. And the Fried Oysters were amazing and didn't break the bank like some places. Yes, they were a little pricey, but the batter was crispy and fresh tasting. I bet they'd be killer on an oyster po'boy. I'd totally go back if I was in the area, even if was just for some gumbo and a biscuit!

Yummy if a bit pricey cafe! I enjoyed the alligator bites, would skip the golden oysters (it was hard to taste the oyster beyond the breading). Portion sizes were a bit small and maybe a bit pricey. The gumbo is also very yummy and the biscuit is perhaps THE best biscuit I've ever had. We also got the King Cake, which is seasonal for mardi gras, and the beignets which were very yummy! Service was nice and fast. Nice ambience which cool art and a nice mural. Lots of tables for four, as well as bar seating.

I've worked in the CBD for years, but for some reason, I've only tried the Streetcar Cafe in the last few months - usually for breakfast, but I've also had lunch here a couple of times - specifically the red beans & rice.Note - I've only eaten at the counter, since I'm usually alone and don't want to take up a table. This is your typical downtown diner/cafe - nothing fancy and pretty typical New Orleans offerings. Now that I've eaten here at least a handful of times, I thought it was time to do a review:At the counter, I've always had very prompt and friendly service. And I've had 2 or 3 great breakfasts, and a couple of good plates of red beans and rice. Very reasonable pricing on everything I've gotten.I made the mistake of eating at the look-a-like place next door (which may have shut down, actually) and Streetcar was far and away much better.Looking for a nice breakfast or lunch in the CDB? Try Streetcar Cafe!

The good: I LOVED THIS PLACE. Beignets are perfectly sweet with a nice balance of greasiness and sweetness, and the crab cakes were marvelous. The coffee I got here was also really good! Friendly staff too. Ambiance was great, definitely felt very homey and had that NOLA charm.First time I went to a place two times and found both times to be perfectly enjoyable.

Great spot to grab a quick beignet. Love how they have outdoor seating and the beignets came out fresh and hot. Highly recommended this place and would come back.

The red beans and rice were so good the first time that I came back three more times to grab to gos during the parades! The staff were always friendly and helpful. The inside has seating for dining in. Great little place to stop in and have a meal.

Please stop by this place and get whatever off the menu. With my party of four, everyone orders something different, and we sampled each other's dish, and every sample was delicious. The wait service was excellent, and everything was reasonably prices with the right portion size of food. Ambiance: Tables are very limited with two tables on the patio. However, any place you sit, you will be delivered great service and food.Overall: I can't wait to visit this place again to try even more of their delicious menu. Great place for breakfast and dinner.

Popped in for our first NOLA breakfast. Adorable little streetside cafe. Outdoor cafe type seating as well as intimate indoor tables. I got the shrimp and grits. Creamy style grits with BBQ shrimp sauce over top made for a sweet/savory combo that was tasty with just the right amount of zip. My daughter got the Streetcar Energy Booster for a healthier option. House made granola and fresh fruit over yogurt with honey. All was plated beautifully and service was quick and friendly.
