Went to this place cause it was recommended by a few locals during my stay for work. It was extremely interesting. I ordered a grilled ham and cheese and it was delicious. High quality ingredients all around and tasted fantastic. While I waited for my order I looked around the small store to find a ton of interesting items that I've never seen before. Mostly imported stuff. I could have spent $1k dollars in this store with all they had to offer. Instead, I spent $80 on a few items to bring home with me on top of the sandwich. My only gripe is that I had to wait about 15min for it. It was lunch time and they were busy though. Very small place. All in all it was worth the wait.

A very nice place for lunch. Pleasant space with indoor and outdoor seating. Even on a hot day the outside was pleasant because it is shaded and has lots of pretty foliage. They have an enormous selection of cheeses for you to take home, and a menu of numerous clever sandwiches and salads. There are pricey snacks and other groceries to take home. Olive oils seemed reasonably priced. An assortment of cooking items I would never use related to cheese (fondues etc). Our sandwiches were delicious and ample. Nice bread. Both of us took half home for next day. That being said, it's a bit expensive. Sandwiches run about $15 more or less. I really wanted the Ploughman's lunch but it was $24! They ask if you want a side of salad (75 cents) or chips ($1.50). The salad isn't worth it and frankly should just be free. It's just mixed greens with Parm on top.

I like St. James Cheese Company a lot! My daughter introduced us to this place a few years ago, and I'm so glad she did. The space is attractive, but a bit snug. It is typically filled with lots of customers and shelves packed full of product. Towards the back there are several glass cases filled with more deliciousness! Everything I've had here is top-notch. You can't go wrong with any of their cheeses loaded on a cheeseboard. If you want a sandwich they have some good choices. Two popular sandwiches are the Pimento Cheese BLT and the Hooks Cheddar Sandwich; both are excellent! There are some tables inside, but they fill up fast. There is additional seating out in their courtyard, which I prefer. It ain't cheap, but you get what you pay for; which is: high-quality, tasty food. Service is friendly and professional. I've also been to their Warehouse District location which is more spacious, but I prefer this one.

I highly recommend the St. James Cheese Company on Prytania in Uptown. The shoppe--not sure about the difference made by the extra -pe but it feels appropriate for this place--slang me a standout Cuban. Coño, that sanguiche was riquisimo. Lick my fingers scrumptious. Juice all down the chin. Snap out of it, man! Ok, I'm back. Great eating in a cozy spot with plenty of outdoor seating. A neighborhood

Based off these reviews, we visited while in town. For a cheese shop, they had a surprisingly large selection of sandwiches. We tried the Hook's Cheddar sandwich which was MASSIVE. It can easily feed 2 people if you get a side. This surprised us: the large roll and all the turkey & other ingredients...and 1 slice of cheddar. From the cheese shop. A sandwich that, until I deconstructed this massive tower o food, could I taste the cheese. Good ingredients inside, but way too much bread.Despite the unusual layout of the restaurant, and it raining, it didn't deter us from getting our food in a timely manner. For what it's worth, after our meal we talked with an employee and they highly suggested 2 other restaurants to try, both of which ended up as average-at best meals. Outside of ordering at the counter, everything else here was DIY...so of course they wanted a tip when you pay...a tip for, well, who knows?

The service is wonderful and always friendly. The atmosphere is very quaint. But the food... the food is absolutely amazing! The cheese is obviously delicious, but even something as simple as a sandwich from here truly is out of this world

There's a new sandwich on the menu and it's absolutely great. The focaccia was a little too hard this time though but the first time I had it, it was a special and bread was perfect. I'm glad they kept it around. I ordered this for lunch and had it delivered. Usually takes a minute but it still good when I get it.

Great assortment of cheeses. if i had one qualm it would be that there could be more variety in taste of the cheese meaning maybe something with spice or sweetness. Additionally would love to see more jams or spreads with it. Overall all the cheeses and the fruits were great!

I've never had a more satisfying grilled cheese! Quality ingredients, European-style cheese and meats, and all the fun gifts you can think of for your foodie friends. I was so pleased to see cassoulet and other southern French foods that I haven't had since I lived there. And roquefort cheese! I was so happy. I love that St. James Cheese Company is here in the garden district.
