Mommie Jo's

Second generation owned restaurant that serves excellent fried local seafood., not overly spicy boiled seafood. In this area, we do not eat food that is spicy in a hot way. They also have daily plate lunches that include your main meal with a small desert. Dine in or take it! I love the fried shrimp poboy- plain for me is th best- but they have excellent plate lunches! They also have great salads that you ccan have either popcorn fried shrimp or grilled shrimp! Every item on the menu is fabulous! Steak night is magnificent! Check the restaurant to know when that special is! But Save room for dessert, have half of your meal packed to go. The dessert cakes and other dessert options are made by the sister of the husband the children of Mommie Jo! The wife of the son is the current operator of the restaurant, she worked with Mommie Jo after she married her husband, both are wonderful people I graduated from high school with 40 years ago. She learned how to run the fabulous restaurant from her mother in law! The service is always fabulous, young Cajun girls in their first jobs!

I had dinner here the other night, not too overly impressed. The gumbo was a bit watery, and when I asked the server if it was possible to get all thighs with my 2 piece chicken dinner, was told that this wasn't possible. She was confused about which parts of the chicken are "dark meat"' and which parts are "white meat". In all it wasn't a bad meal, but I probably wouldn't return.

Mommies Jo's, what happened to you?!?! Our office ordered lunch today and it was so disappointing. The lunch was shrimp and angel hair pasta, garlic bread, salad and bouille (pudding). Although the containers were never tipped over in the car, the bouille was spilled over in the pasta... inside all three containers. The pasta was flavorless and the red velvet cake tastes like..... nothing and looked like a dish sponge. Terrible! The corn nuggets were good and the house dressing is always good. Very disappointing since I've loved this place growing up.

This place is off the chain!!! The fried seafood is second to none and you gotta have the cake and bouille. Don't ask what cake and bouille is, just eat it and it will be love at first bite! The staff at Mommie Jo's are friendly and the food is great! I go there every time I am in the area.

Great burger! Ordered the cake and bouille and there was only cake pieces floating around in it. Will def have the burge

THE SOFT SHELL CRAB PO BOY!?? I've never tasted something so perfectly seasoned, so artistically fried in my life. Right on the bayou with a fishing boat out back, this place is home cooking at its most delicious.

I ate here once before tonight many years ago & apparently I forgot my experience.AppsEggplant Fries = Tasteless (waitress had no comment when I told her this)2 shrimp stuffed pistolettes (better @ B&E)Cup of shrimp okra gumbo (tasteless $4.50 app)We both ordered ribeyes medium rare. Now I know this isnt a steakhouse BUT if you are going to put it on the menu, then you should be able to cook it properly. By properly I mean a steak is meant to be seared so as to seal in the flavor & cook the fat. They were cooked medium rare, I will give them that. But without a good sear, the fat was mostly raw. And there was ALOT of it. My wife's steak was spoiled. She had eaten one bite & asked me to taste it to make sure & I spit my bite out. She had to go to the counter with her plate since the waitress never came back to check on us after we got our entrees. AGAIN the waitress had NOTHING to say. Not a Im sorry or Ill take this off your bill. NOTHING.A good 5-8 mins later she came ask if she wanted anything else. Of course she didnt because she had completely lost her appetite.Mine was ok, I ate what I could since half of it was fat & the flavor wasnt too pleasing by the way it was prepared.We absolutely will never go back.Service sucksFood sucksAnd even after taking off 1 steak from the bill, we still paid $48 !! I told her the eggplant fries werent good yet we apparently paid for those.One good thing, the bathroom is very clean.Also, while paying the bill, we saw some guy eating in the kitchen. Guess I shouldnt have been surprised since when we walked in there were 2 waitresses eating right next to the counter & didnt even aknowledge me when I went in to take a look at the menu.Should have been a red flag of things to come.Lesson learned

Always good, love the food, love the service! We stop in once or twice a month! Nice little spot on the bayou :)

The burgers are very good, homemade and a great price. My favorite thing is the onion sticks with their house dressing dip. Best grilled shrimp on the bayou. All desserts are homemade and tasty.
