City Roots Coffee Bar

I am on the quest for a great matcha latte and the Matcha Dream Latte at City Roots is now a top contender!! Presentation of the stunning fluffy matcha foam sitting on top of the milk was a superb first impression. The barista had whipped the matcha to velvety smooth perfection - if you are a matcha fan you know how crucial this is (or else you're cringing through sips of clumpy matcha powder). Mixing the latte was so satisfying and the taste was creamy and sweet with subtle notes of matcha's earthy flavor. They were very busy on my rainy day visit and getting drinks orders out steadily. Lots of seating options whether you're looking for a cafe to work, study, hangout or relax. Will definitely be going back.

I'm so glad there is finally a great alternative for quality coffee in Baton Rouge. This has always been a great place to either catchup, study or just relax after a long day.Service is professional and knowledgeable...More locations are needed throughout the city...Maybe on all three college campus's in Baton Rouge.

Love the ambiance of this place and the fact that they roast their own coffee in house! The seasonal drink I got was delicious. They also have a small variety of pastries from a local bakery that looked good as well.

Lost a star for the poor shot. It was bitter and watery. I couldn't even drink it and because of it I chose not to buy beans. I don't see any care for the shot or dialing in. Not sure why all the workers look so angry/unfriendly but it definitely kills the vibe. But the crème brûlée latte was delicious. Amazing how you can hide a bad shot with milk. Enjoyed that and the place is still a nice spot.

The manager, Dominick, reached out to me to rectify the situation. He did not make excuses for the staff and in turn, noted how they can better train the staff. He offered me replacement coffees (and more) of what I initially bought and after some discussion, we came to the conclusion that it's the EBR teachers that can use some freshly ground City Roots Coffee. So he donated freshly ground coffee and swags to our favorite teachers. Dominick went above and beyond to make up for the services that I initially received. Their coffees are really great and I am confident I won't be disappointed with the service on my next visit.

GET THE MATTE DREAM TEA LATTE ! It will change your life , but be careful. Im addicted and im afraid you will be too.

Since the review Owner reached out to me. We had a great discussion about what took place regarding service. I gave it four stars based on that discussion. He offered free coffee but I explained that freebies can't buy basic good old fashioned customer service respect. People are going through things in life. Sometimes getting outside is an effort. So, when they visit an establishment they want to experience a moment of peace and contentment while enjoying good food or drinks, service, and ambiance. It's all about maintaining good mental energy in a chaotic world. When eating out a server can bring add or subtract energy from your energy. He understood and we departed on a good note.We still have not been back. Guess it's time to give them another try.

Ive been going here for quite a while now and I still love it. This place makes really good specialty drinks, has plenty of outlets and wifi, and has lovely staff. I highly recommend bringing a small growler and getting a cold brew fill. They sell them there, and then every refill is $10. It's comparable to what you'd pay at a grocery store, except it's local, zero waste, and tastes better. Total triple win. This is the place that really got me into matcha when they came out with their matcha dream latte... it's ridiculously good. I had a lavender iced london fog (i think?) the other day and that was really tasty. Their regular cappuccino is great too.The only complaints I have about this place are 1. They changed their biscuit supplier a year (or two?) ago and 2. They're soooo busyI used to get these square biscuits there for like $2, you could get a savory or a sweet one, and they were completely divine. Now they have a different biscuit that is a circle and no dessert ones. I am still sad.It's great for them that they're busy so this isn't a real complaint. It just might be time to expand! Beware, check to see if it's exam season at LSU before you show up. When it is, you might not be able to find a table.Thanks for years of good coffee!

Unlike the snobby spots, Roots gives refills on drip. They also use ceramic as a default if your order is "for here" - love that. - Consistently friendly staff.- Great aesthetic and fun urban area vibe.- If you're cranking out work for some hours on your lap top, the strange metal structure in the paved lot outside is great for busting out some pull ups or just hanging for a while to open your back.

Best coffee I've had in a while! I got the Cold brew de crema and it did not disappoint. I can't wait to go back!
