David D. "I don't know why I haven't written a review sooner because this is one of my all-time favorite breakfast places. The food is outstanding and so are the prices. While eating out these days almost requires a home equity loan, you can get a fantastic breakfast and still walk out with money in your pocket.Yesterday, my son and I went there, and he had steak and eggs with grits, and I had a lump crabmeat (a lot) Benedict for less than $40. That crab Benedict, along with the salmon Benedict and the lump crabmeat omelet, are three of my favorites. But, everything is fantastic and the service is as well. If you've never been, then now is the time."

We went Saturday, which was Day 2 after their opening and we were pleasantly surprised. We will be going back. My only complaint is that chips and salsa are not complimentary. Oh, they pour their drinks strong, so you may need a designated driver."

Re H. "You may have driven past this place a hundred times, I know I have. There isn't even a sign. What? No sign...Yep! There's no sign. When it was being built I thought, why build a gas station across from a gas station? Tucked in what appears to the naked eye as a simple gas station/convenience store is Donuts & Deli. It's no secret I'm from California as I reminiscence often of cool balmy beach weather as I swelter in the humid heat of Southern Louisiana.Louisianians love their snowballs, but we Californians LOVE us some donuts. We have as many donut joints as you have snowball stands, maybe even more. After hearing about this place ( from darling Alexis), I was eager to get my hands on some donuts. They serve a selection of classic donuts, glazed, chocolate, Bavarian cream, jelly filled and sprinkles. But then.......a wide grin as big a the Cheshire Cat creeped across my face as I eye spied a cinnamon roll as big as my head. The little Alice in Wonderland within me jumped for joy as I drooled over the various donut holes and miniature apple fritters, perfect for any mad hatter tea party. We order the giant cinnamon roll, chocolate covered donuts and jelly filled holes, all delicious!I thought I'd try their original potato, filled with the yumminess of bacon bits, cheese, butter, sour cream and green onions for a whopping $3.29 ....their menu includes sandwiches, burgers and smoked meat lunch plates....it's was obvious that some knew about this place as a dozen or so worker guys were chowing down at tables located inside.....And I was assured that the sign is coming soon.......What I discovered, even though my name isn't Alice nor did I follow a white rabbit down a hole....is that I won't have to travel far to grab delicious donuts or a bite for lunch.......Donuts & Deli gets the California stamp of approval, I'm a fan!"

If you are expecting Starbucks drinks that are more sugar and a drop of coffee you will probably have to express that to the barista, otherwise you will get a true coffee! I ordered an iced coffee with a pump of SF mocha and also a hot drip coffee. Both were great, their coffee is wonderful! I also tasted my dad's americano, AMAZING. My brother and husband don't really drink coffee so to them it wasn't their kind of spot. Regardless it has a wonderful environment to socialize with friends. P.S. THEY HAVE A DRIVE THRU!!!! And take Apple/Google pay. All the things."

Holy moly the oysters are HUGE and tasty with the bread. You have to get the oysters. Most meals come with a salad of your choice between house or Caesar. The stuffed mushrooms were a great add on for appetizers. I got the norman, it was a cozy meal with really large shrimp. I personally would've liked something more spicy. The gator bites were huge as well and fresh. I recommend if you're trying to get some Louisiana cuisine in the area."

LuAnn D. "This was the second Thanksgiving dinner we've had here. We went back here because we remembered the previous one being so good. However this past Thanksgiving the menu was different and the traditional Thanksgiving dinner was not even on the menu. The server quickly recited it but it all sounded like an afterthought. Maybe next time at least have it printed up. So neither of us got the turkey. I had the short ribs and I have to say they were delicious. The only weird thing was the server went into great detail about their homemade crostinis when we were considering the fish dip with crostinis as an appetizer. So we ordered it and the dish came out with obviously normal tortilla chips instead. We called the server over and asked about the crostinis he told us about and he said oh- they were out. This seems like a small thing but instead of just bringing the dish out and not saying a word, he should have come back to our table and asked if we still wanted the dip. So, even though the food we had was good- those mis-steps made it less than and we definitely will not be back."

Joe S. "The Streetcar Cafe is an excellent "hole in the wall" restaurant off the beaten path. On the South side of Canal, it was an easy walk from a few area hotels. The Gumbo was one of the best gumbos I've ever had. It was thick and rich like a Kardashian. It was packed with flavor and a few drops of Crystal hot sauce made it sing! Why is Crystal only good on Cajun/Creole food? The biscuit had a consistency somewhere between a regular biscuit and soft bread, which I thought was amazing. I wanted to go back for Biscuits and Gravy but ended up trying that somewhere else. The biscuit and Gumbo was great, though (even at 7p).The Jambalaya was good too. Lots of rice and not soupy. And the Fried Oysters were amazing and didn't break the bank like some places. Yes, they were a little pricey, but the batter was crispy and fresh tasting. I bet they'd be killer on an oyster po'boy. I'd totally go back if I was in the area, even if was just for some gumbo and a biscuit!"

We did book a reservation, even though we went for lunch just to be safe. They did mention that reservations were needed for the weekend. The restaurant is divided into two parts. One side is a cocktail bar that has a piano player several nights a week and a great fireplace to sit by and the other side is the restaurant. From the decor to the service, everything was completely outstanding.I highly recommend getting the brussels sprouts for a starter. I don't need much convincing to try a different Mexican restaurant, so I came here the first chance I got. The menu does not have regular burritos on it (only kid's burrito), but they still make it. I had a chicken burrito that's made in a large tortilla. They serve it with a small side of rice and refried beans. I would have liked a little more, but I always want more lol. The burrito is cooked on the grill and is pretty decent. The real star of the show is the mushroom empanada!!!! It's served with a side of spicy mayo. These empanadas were the best empanadas I've ever had in my life! I will never not order these when I come. They are $5.99 for 3. They were soft and very flavorful. I could eat like 5 more. Please try them! ***There's parking in front of the restaurant, but very few. I parked on the side of the building. The place is decorated nicely and has nice table runners. They also have high chairs that are placed at the bar. You order at the counter. I think they prefer cash because there's a small fee for using a card or Apple Pay or Google Pay."

My experience included being escorted from across the street by some nice JPSO deputies and dining in the private room in the back. The service was super efficient, taking 14 orders and serving us our drinks, salads, entrees, and even some pie slices to-go in record time. While I settled on a salad, and it was tasty, I was drooling over the fried shrimp & fish that my companions had ordered. It looked amazing - and they agreed that it was. Patti B. "After seeing all the rave reviews, we were sorely disappointed. There was plenty of seating when we arrived. You order at counter or with QR. The mimosas were ready by the time we checked out at the counter, but are in plastic cups. You can get your own water and coffee. We had biscuits and gravy and chicken and waffles. The biscuit and gravy were good, but had a skim on gravy and was just warm, not hot. That was the better of the two meals. The waffles were dry and not hot. The pecan butter did not melt on them, even under the scoop of butter that was on top of the waffle. The chicken was hot enough, but unremarkable and a small serving. Big seating area with tables seating up to 8, a little loud, but not as much as you would think from the look of the place. Overall, unless you don't want to walk farther, there are better places to eat in the area. I'd recommend Flamingo a GoGo as an alternative. They have bottomless mimosas and the chicken and waffles are much better and a bigger serving for just a few dollars more. My husband's French toast was made with wheat bread, which was unexpected and definitely not the preference. It made the toast fall flat, though he said it was still tasty and made well. Just wished it wasn't wheat. It's typical diner food. Nothing fancy, but solid. Maybe we didn't love-love our dishes that day, but it wasn't all bad. My go to order is the orbit bowl though it sometimes is very rice heavy- it has vegetables, egg, a really good vinaigrette and fills me up but not too much. I pair that with the almond butter chocolate chip energy bites. Y'all these things are delicious but not too sweet! I wish they were cheaper- I think you get 2 for $4 so I don't get them every time I go. My other favorite sweet treat is the dragon fruit chia seed pudding- it's tasty but not too sweet and very filling. It's also kinda pricey so I don't get it all the time either. The service is always great- folks are friendly and will provide recommendations or explain recipes if you have dietary concerns or restrictions. The ambience is nice, it's an open space and sometimes people will bring their laptop to eat and work. They have limited outside seating, a solid playlist and it's clean, bright and inviting. Daily Beet will continue to be my downtown go to place for healthy, fresh, good food!"
