Eating the hot chicken sandwich at Brave Idiot made me really think about how unfortunate it is that the biggest names in any industry isn't necessarily the best. The battle for fried chicken market share is fierce, and Brave Idiot is definitely offering a work of art to anyone who knows where it is. I had the hot chicken sandwich with the hot tots and the pesto salad, and it was the best first meal in Nashville I could've asked for. Personally, I don't think I would like pimento cheese on its own, but it worked on the sandwich. The chicken was spiced and fried perfectly, with a flawless bite every time. The tots were so addicting, I couldn't stop. I'm guessing it's the same seasoning as the chicken but not totally sure. The pesto salad was an amazing side and offered a bit of creamy respite from all the spice while not feeling heavy at all.All the workers in the truck were so friendly. Was able to chit chat with them for a bit during a quiet moment. You can take your food and eat it inside the bar it's parked next to or grab a table outside by the truck on a nice day.

When Dylan Field was working at Southern Grist, he would often talk about his desire to open his own food truck and damn did he hit one out of the park. I am glad to see he is doing well.My first exposure to his food was when he hit Craft Brewed in Melrose (now a vape shop) with a burger pop up. Excellent burger. For the past few years, he has been a permanent popup at No Quarter - at first on the side, now in back. And recently, he was recognized as the best Hot Chicken in Nashville. I decided to put it to the test (not my first time eating his chicken, but first time since he hit #1).The food truck is a food truck (see picture). You order and get a pager to let you know when you grub is done. So not much ambiance, unless you consider trucks a form of ambiance. Service is also pretty much like any food truck, although Dylan is more than happy to help you get the right level of spice (and trust me, he can light you up). NOTE: At the time, you got 10% off for showing your kitties (pictures of cats, get your mind out of the gutter).I order #6 out of 10. I wish I had been a bit milder, although this baby still has tons of flavor. I can just imagine what 10 is. Moist chicken, wonderful flavor. 10 out of 10. I can see why he got the award. The potato salad is a different than most and has a bit of an upscale flavor. I would say more 7 or 8 out of 10 here, but it is potato salad. For those hitting this spot, either pop into No Quarter or the cocktail bar next door (both allow you to bring in food) and grab a beer or mixed drink while you nom down on this great chicken.

Hattie B's was my first meal in Nashville and it had me down bad on Nashville hot chicken. Brave idiot restored my faith, the sandwich was fantastic. I got a level 7 spiciness, which was perfect. Hot, but not so hat that it ruined the sandwich. The pesto pasta salad was great, get it. The choc chip pretzel cookie had great flavor but the texture was off. Maybe because it was in a bag.

Welcome to the best hot chicken in the city. I got a level 5 and it was perfect. Not too spicy, but still a little kick, great flavor, perfectly cooked- crispy and moist. Please do yourself a favor and go to brave idiot. They have a "crunchsmash" a smash burger in a crunch wrap. I have got to try this.

The best hot chicken in Tennessee! They give you so much food and the service is fast and the servers are so sweet. It's a food truck but you can take the food into the two bars next door or sit in the seating area.

The portions are massive! And the food is great especially for a hangover. I recommend the chicken burrito over the chorizo smash. They were both too spicy for me but my boyfriend love them!

Listen when they warn you about the spice levels! The hot chicken is excellent. It burns your face off, but it also has flavor and is cooked to perfection. The exterior is crispy and spicy, while the interior is juicy and tender. If you aren't looking for heat, the Good Ole Fashioned is up your alley. Happy to have finally eaten here.

Brave Idiot makes some crazy good, creative, made to order delicacies! You can count on a delicious burger or huge hot chicken sandwich when you visit this truck. As someone with a low spice tolerance, the mild is almost too much for me to bear, so choose your spice level carefully! My vegetarian partner loves the impossible options, it's so rare to find somewhere in Nashville to get hot chicken that also has veggie options. A vegetarian chicken option would be sweet, but the burger is still a great step! You can take your food to go, eat outside, or take your food in to No Quarter, a divey pinball bar where you can grab a drink with your food.
