The restaurant is pretty inside with lots of windows, though there's not a lot to see in the area. It's next to an assisted living apartment building, I think. If you need a quick filling, non-fast food lunch, try it out."

I stopped in here for breakfast and not only was the food very good and fairly priced, but the service was also personable and professional.Jay's Family Restaurant has an ambiance like many other down-home southern casual restaurants. It is comfortable and inviting. As I said, Jay's Family Restaurant is a great option for breakfast. I met a client here for a breakfast meeting and it was definitely a great choice. The vibes are great with music and an amazing place to hang out with friends and get some drinks ! When in Nashville I make sure I come here to grab a drink and some appetizers! Service it's good, but if it's the weekend expect to wait in line for a little !"

Erik S. "As I've been saying in most of my reviews from my Nashville trip so far, on the whole, I had so many great meals there... but of course, I had to go for some Nashville Hot Chicken, and this place near Vanderbilt's campus came highly recommended. I am happy to say, it was phenomenal!Red's is quite simply a roadside chicken shack. They have a small outdoor covered eating area with counter seating around the edges, everything is served take-out style no matter where you plan to eat it. There is a bar next door that they'll bring your food to, but I didn't explore that, it was a fairly nice day to just eat right out front.I approached the window and my order was promptly taken, no non-sense, no fuss, they're just interested in getting you great chicken made fresh. This IS NOT fast food, and they express that on their sign, but regardless, I waited just 15 minutes for piping hot, made to order, hot chicken. I went with the Hot Chicken Plate with the 3 jumbo tenders, as they were currently out of thighs due to a power outage that spoiled their last supply. That mattered exactly not at all, because the tenders were enormous, juicy, and very filling with a perfect level of spice. I went medium to gauge, and it was just right for me. Flavorful, good heat, not excruciating. The plate came with two sides, I opted for their pimento mac n cheese and cole slaw. The mac was exceptional, really nice sharp cheddar flavor, very creamy. The cole slaw was refreshing and cool, not too mayo heavy, and provided a nice switch to the hot chicken. I also got some great ranch for dipping. It also came with a couple slices of white bread, as is tradition, for mopping up sauce and making little bite size sammies. All told, I could not recommend this place more. I love a place that just cuts to the chase with great food, and Red's is exactly that. I'm sure there is lots of excellent hot chicken available around Nashville, but this should be one of your choices!"

I have nothing but great things to say about this place. The ambiance = rustic luxe chic. The service = phenomenal. The food + cocktails = 10/10. I got the seasonal grain bowl and it was one loaded bowl with feta, pickled onions, cucumbers, tomatoes, hummus, quinoa, and arugula. Their fried chicken sandwich came crispy and hot, and the coleslaw on it was delicious. The Buffalo cauliflower was the best appetizer and the dipping sauce matched perfectly with it. All of our cocktails were a hit as well; refreshing and high quality. If you're looking for great service, a cute vibe, and quality American fare, I recommend Liberty Common."

Janie D. "Ask anyone where to get an authentic home cooked southern meal in Nashville, and they'll send you to Arnold's. This local gem practically invented the "Meat & 3", a cafeteria style service where you choose a meat and three sides. Options change daily at Arnold's, but generally include fare like candied yams, fried catfish, chicken and dumplings, etc. Upon arrival, grab a tray, and get in line. Staff of varying degrees of surliness will scoop your selections onto styrofoam plates, and a cashier will ring you up at the end. Choose your own cutlery, and find a seat. The restaurant is spacious, with a homey, no frills vibe. All of the food was delicious. Richly seasoned but not overly salty, deep fried but somehow not too heavy or oily. The shrimp were juicy, the mac and cheese creamy with a lovely gouda flavor, the greens were deeply savory. My favorite side dish was the Fried Green Tomatoes, which were lightly breaded, juicy, and tangy. Skip the cornbread, which was bone dry, but do NOT skip dessert. The Spicy Chocolate Pie was among the best pies I've ever had. It tasted of semisweet chocolate ganache, with a wonderfully bright heat from what I presume to be cayenne pepper. Apparently Arnold's has plans to close soon after 42 years of business, so eat here while you can."

While I don't recall what I had on that first visit, this time we arrived early enough to take advantage of their happy hour, which was fantastic. We started with fresh oysters for $1.50 each, followed by the Good Samaritan cocktail ($10), which was similar to a whiskey sour--smooth and refreshing. The Thai beef skewer ($8) had a perfect balance of flavor and spice, making it a great appetizer. For my main course, I had a cup of gumbo, which was delicious, while my husband ordered the hanger steak cooked medium rare. It was done to perfection! To finish the meal, we had their bread pudding, which was absolutely out of this world. The dessert was generously provided on the house, which was a thoughtful and much-appreciated gesture. Our waitress was amazing, offering excellent recommendations that enhanced our experience. For parking, there are several options: paid street parking, a garage, or valet for $8 plus tip.The Marsh House will forever hold a special place in my heart, and I look forward to many more visits in the future."

We enjoyed the fried okra, fried chicken, biscuits, and the meatloaf. However the dumplings were not good, the collard greens were really salty. Doug G. "Mason's is located in the Loews Vanderbilt Hotel and is their house restaurant and bar. During our recent stay, only the bar and lounge area was open, as the full service dining room was closed. With this, they were offering a limited food menu, however they ensured you still had a few choices from salads, sandwiches, burgers, mains, appetizers and desserts. Additionally, you had full bar options! The bar and lounge areas are laid out well, lit perfectly and decorated nicely. The bar is surrounding by a mason jar lighting display that is just bright and dim enough to keep the chill bar atmosphere alive. The lounge area features a mix of lounge seating with side tables, actual tables and high tops, plus you have seats lining the bar as well. Service was good. The Bartender was also the waitress for the entire space, so things were delayed slightly, but she still did a great job keeping up with everyone's needs around the bar and lounge area. We came for dinner and started with the kale and artichoke dip. The first few scoops were great, but the dip became cold really quick, like oddly quick. The fresh chips were great as it was nice to not have plain tortilla chips. For our meals we got the Burger and Smoked Turkey Club. Both were quite enjoyable! I sided my club with a caesar salad and the fries my partner got were thick and crispy. Overall, Mason's is a solid option for dinner when you hit the hotel and aren't really in the mood to get out for the night. They do offer brunch, but we were already out of the hotel by the time they started this service...maybe next time!"

Their medium spice was spicy enough and their lite medium spice was just a big flavor bomb with a slight touch of spice. Our server told us if we have been to the other hot chicken spots around Nashville, then we should order a notch down when it came to ordering with their spice levels because Prince's was hotter than the rest. The French fries also had a bit of seasoning on them and usually I'm not a Ken's ranch fan but something about that ranch dressing and Prince's fries just addictively hit. Also tried the Chess pie, as our server also said this recipe was the closest to his Nana's recipe, it was way too sweet for my taste but I could see why it's a big hit for some in TN. This location seemed to be in a newer development with a string of new home constructions around them, hope they continue to have great success there!"

How could she keep this to herself for 30 years?! It ought to be in the Bible - in red! Divorce should be considered scriptural if she doesn't like BBQ! If she wasn't so darned beautiful...Whitt's has been a mainstay in this area for years and finally came to Smyrna. Due to aforementioned marital discord, I tend to visit here solo. I would like to go on record as saying they should have a special one night of the week for men in my situation. I'm sure there are more. If you can have a "Ladies Night" why not a "But I want BBQ Tonight Night" for us? Maybe call it "Solo Saturday" or "Manly Monday" - double up on the portion of pork - drown it in hot sauce and give us bibs.Whitt's has always been one of my favorites when it comes to pulled pork. Consistent - moist and flavorful without being over the top smoky. The baked beans are great. The coleslaw is vinegar base, yet slightly sweet. Perfect with the BBQ. They are drive-thru only, but have tables outside for warmer climates. Wednesday nights they have single sandwiches at a reduced price. Maybe that night is set aside for us lonely guys while are wife's are together sipping wine and sampling cheese and oar durbs (I spelled that right, didn't I?) You know, those girly snacks they try to pass off as food that consist of crackers, a lot of cream cheese, some kind of chicken salad with grapes and decorated with a piece of greenery that you don't eat anyway. They need to substitute that chicken salad with a slice of brisket.I know it's the norm now, but EVERYONE wants a tip. You know, when I pull up to a drive thru and order a sandwich, that took all of 30 seconds to assemble - what gives? You pay with your debit card and there - like 90% of all other places - is a space for a tip. 15% of $1.69 (on Wednesday night) is a quarter. Stop embarrassing us both. Bring cash - it reduces the awkwardness. The cashier won't ask if they can keep your change...maybe..."

I guess you could say I'm never really in that part of town and even if I was, I would have overlooked it. It is a hole-in-the-wall and I'm ashamed because I know just as well as any foodie that hole-in-the-wall establishments have some of the best food. They were serving oxtails the day I went and I *LOVE* oxtails. Silver Sands has a wide variety of foods they serve plus daily specials. I came really close to wanting to try the pork chops or fried chicken but the fact that I haven't had oxtails since I went to a Jamaican restaurant in Lavergne made me choose what I came for. I got the mac & cheese (supposedly legendary) and the turnip greens. I was asked when ordering if I wanted a flat(?) or a hot water. I had no clue what she was talking about, so I just said a flat. What it ended up being is this round cornbread-type cake. I don't know why it's called what it's called and I'm quite curious what a "hot water" tastes like.Anyway, the oxtails were AMAZING. You get a small and large oxtail and a large spoonful of the gravy (I think it's more like a stew). I dipped my flat cornbread in it until it was gone and then I ate all of it with a spoon. The oxtail was meaty and rich, and the gravy was the perfect blend of savory and salty. The mac and cheese was creamy and had a nice tang to it (I read while waiting it had Velveeta cheese in it). Say what you will about American cheese, sometimes it's the best cheese in certain dishes. The turnip greens were fantastic, not at all bitter and I didn't even need pepper vinegar (a condiment I usually pair with it).Silver Sands is awesome and I'm sad I haven't been there sooner. It is a bit pricey (oxtails is one of the most expensive) but I want to go back and try their other stuff too."
