Morningside Thai is a hidden gem tucked away in Houston's bustling culinary scene. Nestled in a modest strip center, this unassuming eatery defies expectations with its remarkable offerings. From the outside, you might never guess the culinary delights awaiting you within. However, step through the doors, and you'll find yourself transported to a world of exquisite flavors and impeccable service. The interior may be sparse, but don't let that fool you. What Morningside lacks in lavish decor, it more than makes up for with its delectable cuisine. As someone who has savored authentic Thai dishes prepared by Thai cooks, I can attest that the flavors here rival even those cherished homemade recipes. Each dish boasts a symphony of flavors that tantalize the taste buds and leave you craving more. One of the highlights of Morningside Thai is undoubtedly the outstanding service. The staff here are not only friendly but go above and beyond to ensure a memorable dining experience. Their attentiveness and warm hospitality truly enhance the overall ambiance of the restaurant. While the menu may lean towards Americanized Thai cuisine, it's a testament to Morningside's versatility and innovation. While you won't find traditional dishes like green papaya salad or fermented rice, what you will discover is a culinary journey through Thailand and beyond. The red curry with roasted duck is a prime example of Chef/Owner Ying Roberts' culinary prowess. Rich, aromatic, and bursting with flavor, it's a true homage to Thailand's culinary heritage. And let's not forget the pad thai--a timeless classic done justice at Morningside Thai. Each bite is a harmonious blend of textures and tastes, showcasing the chef's dedication to perfection. In conclusion, Morningside Thai may not fit the mold of a typical Thai restaurant, but it exceeds expectations in every aspect that truly matters. Whether you're a connoisseur of Thai cuisine or simply seeking an unforgettable dining experience, Morningside Thai is not to be missed. As for the claim of having some of the best curry in Houston--I wholeheartedly stand by it, and I'm confident you will too after your visit.

So we usually get Doordash delivery or take out from here and it's been a pleasant experience overall.. so this weekend we decided to eat dine in with the kids. When we arrived, there was nobody in the restaurant (this was around 530pm), and we were told to wait for a table (when every table was available). A couple arrived a few seconds after us and they were basically seated immediately. We finally got a table situated with a high chair. When we ordered our meal, my wife requested the chili-lime sauce that we frequently get on delivery apps and was told they don't sell that for dine-in and it's an UberEats exclusive (HUH??). They said they would have to charge the UberEats price for the sauce (why can't you guys just say the sauce cost extra..? we would have been okay paying for it). After some back and forth, they came back from the kitchen mentioning that they no longer sell the sauce. The server/host (a youngish guy with glasses) was not very accommodating of my wife's request and insisted that there was no such sauce or it was being axed from the menu (this is completely false as I'll describe later). Okay fine, no sauce... so we go about ordering our food. We weren't super hungry so I ordered a small soup with a thai tea and my wife ordered a soup entre to share with the kids and our friend ordered a curry entre. The server passively aggressively asked if that's all we were ordering when I feel like there was no mention of a minimum order amount and something like a minimum order shouldn't even exist at a restaurant like this. Also, when I asked for less ice, he mentioned the Thai tea would not have the glass full. The server/host was just very combative with every request we made and was a very frustrating experience for everyone. Water was not provided even after the Thai tea was served and we had to re-request the water. Also refills were offered only after we already finished our meal and had empty glasses for the majority of the meal (I had to take water from my kids' cups...).Unfortunately, our out-of-town friend had offered to pay so I had no control over the tip, but for SURE, we would have probably opted for 10% or even no tip because our experience was so strange and uncomfortable on this particular night with this particular guy. I'm not sure if he just had a bad day or what. We don't appreciate being lied too about the sauce either -- we literally just ordered the sauce along with an entre tonight on DoorDash and RECEIVED THE SAUCE, so please next time don't lie to your customers about a product that 1) you DO have at the restaurant and 2) you should be able to sell to dine-in customers?? I have never heard of a delivery exclusive menu item.....I've seen what I presume to be the owner or restaurant manager during takeout pickups and presume none of this would have caused an issue if she was there on that particular night. In terms of food, I think the majority of stuff is quite decent. I would say the curry is a bit watered down to some extent, and the crab fried rice I wish had more flavor / mixed up more as it was more or less just white rice with crab chunks. Their pad thai is pretty good as well as their soups, and I think the Tom Yum is quite good. It's really hard to reconsider coming back to this restaurant or recommending it as a dine-in option after our experience this past weekend. Previously, we had thought this place was a pretty decent Thai restaurant near us with good value.

We had a meeting and order some catering food.Turned out to be quite good. Portion wise is great.I had the duck curry and it was yummy. On the part of desserts I didn't like it too much. They add some fragant in the coconut and the taste was a bit weird for me personally.

Cute local place. Been going here since I moved to Houston. They moved locations about 10 years ago & the place lost some charm. Food is good, but some days is better than others. I always thought that they might make the curry pastes every other day or so & that one day 2 flavors are better? Not sure, but it definitely can be ok or really good. It's three stars because of the lack of consistency.

Needed a quick meal and was craving Thai food so I thought I'd try this place out. I got the chicken satay, tom yum fried rice, and Panang curry with chicken. The chicken satay satisfied my craving and the tom yum fried rice was different, but good. The Panang curry I felt needed more flavor/spice because all I could really taste was coconut.Overall, not a bad place to try!

Tried this neighborhood staple with a takeout order and really enjoyed it (came back a few days later for more)! The Tofu and Vegetable Soup really hit the spot with a generous helping of piping hot silky tofu pieces. With the likely addition of fish sauce, ginger, and lemongrass, the soup was super flavorful and didn't taste like just salt. I was pretty satisfied just eating that for my dinner but I wanted to sample the Chicken Porridge that I also ordered... which turned out to be a mistake because it was so tasty that I ate the giant quart of porridge as well (X_X)! The porridge is different than the usual zhou/xifan/jook, as it is cooked with broth and flavored with lots of bright flavors. It didn't need anything on the side (like the usual side dishes or condiments). The dishes were still hot when I got home, so it was a great meal during a dreary evening! The Mince Pork Basil Bowl tasted super-basil-y with just the right amount of sweet, salt, and heat-- totally a treat with the sauce soaking up in the rice! I was a bit disappointed that the pork was mostly all little fat pieces instead of ground meat. Flavorful, yes, but definitely not healthy which is what I was trying to go for :( It would be better if they describe it accurately on the menu as to not mislead customers. The menu is pretty extensive, spanning your usual Thai curry mainstays as well as noodle/rice dishes and salads. The ambiance inside is a little stale; don't expect anything fancy, but the staff seemed friendly from my two visits. Plenty of seating and parking. I'm excited to return and try some of the other dishes in the future!

Took a chance on this restaurant by our hotel bc it had good reviews and it was close. Small place, cute inside...the front door had a revolving bunch of patrons picking up food to go. Also a bunch of diners inside....it was bustling. Everything we ordered was tasty and everything we saw come out of the kitchen looked great at other tables. We'll eat here again and will try a few more things that looked tasty on neighbor's plates. Also plenty to take home for leftovers. We could have feed at least 3 of us....rather than 2.

Not a lot of seating inside. Service was great! I've gotten the yellow curry and pas thai, and both were good! Definitely a solid and well priced Thai place- would recommend!

A friend recommended this place, so we came for dinner! It was soooo good. They have a huge selection of food and drinks to choose from. Literally. I saw boba signs on their door that I initially walked past it bc I thought it was a boba shop LOL! Pretty small inside but we had no issues with seating as a group of 7. Got the classic pad se-iew with chicken. It was sweet and savory, just how I like it. I got to share the pad kee mao with my friend, spice level hot with pork as our meat, and it was AMAZING. It tastes like pad se-iew with all the great flavors, but you get the extra kick from the spices. I'll definitely get this dish again and again. Pork was softer compared to the chicken. Hot was pretty spicy but bearable enough to eat without sweating or panting haha. Food looked, smelled, and tasted awesome. Forgot to take pics before digging in!! I also got to try a sip of my friend's Thai tea and it was legit!! Our server checked in on us every now and then. At the end he rang us up individually with the portable credit card reader. Gratuity was already included in the check and then they asked for more tip on the screen. The total for my dish was around around $19. Parking is plenty!
