My partner and I, while staying in Raleigh, had no idea about what we should try. He picked this smokehouse, saying that BBQ in North Carolina is supposed to be great. He was right, it was not only great, it was the best that I've ever had. Literally, the best! We shared the 4 protein combo with Ribs, pulled chicken with a mustard sauce, jalapeño cheddar sausage, and the brisket; delicious. Told our awesome server, Ricky, that we'd never had burnt ends, he brought us a sample without us asking. Admittedly, the burnt ends are just not my thing. Our sides were barbecue beans and broccoli casserole. Both, were great! And the hush puppies and pickles that accompanied the plate were a welcome addition.Let's not forget the kick ssa Banana Pudding!! At the conclusion of our meal we were offered a tour of the smokehouse. Great touch!! Can't wait to come back!!Our experience and service were TOP TIER!

Midwood smokehouse saved us when we need a last-minute dinner option on a rainy weekend. Our party of 6 walked in and easily got a booth. I tried:+ Miguel's queso+ Skillet corn bread+ Combo platter with Carolina chopped pork, beef brisket, brisket burnt ends, chicken barbecue+ Classic Mac and cheese+ French fries+ collard greens + Barbecue baked beans + Hush puppies+ Small banana pudding+ Nutty pecan cobbler+ campfire Blondie Desserts were meh, but the rest of the food was a lot better than I was expecting for a chain (5 locations in NC). Hush puppies were amazing. Also loved the baked beans and queso. As for the meats - brisket and burnt ends were the best (would get all-lean brisket next time). They had run out of ribs, so would try those next time too. Cornbread and collards were solid.

We stopped in based on the reviews on our way to NC airport. Our server was a very nice guy who offered suggestions. There were some high and lows without a meal. I love the vibe of the place. There is an open bar that sits outside and faces inside. It was a nice overcast afternoon with a bit of a breeze that came thru. The pinapple brisket taco was recommended, and per the description, it sounded amazing (note add it on for $6 to a meal). The brisket was cooked perfectly but the rest fell flat. I tried adding some of the house sauces, but nothing helped. I think they missed the mark by not grilling the pinapple vs. just chopping it in small pieces. The meat platter had ribs, burnt end brisket, pulled pork, and a jalapeño sausage. We got a side of Mac and cheese and bacon wrap jalapeños. The plate came with pickles and hush puppies. Jalapeño cheese sausage - Do get this it is very good.Burnt ends - skip as they were overcooked get the regular brisket instead.Pulled pork - good- moist Ribs - Fall off the bone (which means they are overcooked) but tender and good flavor. Hush puppies - sweet and crispy - decent Pickles - Good crispy slices - fresh and spicyI had a yelp check in for a free banana pudding and they did not take it off the bill so that was disappointing even tho we talked about it and I opened it up and put it right next to the check went to the bathroom and came back and it was still on the bill. However, the banana pudding was the best part of the entire meal. The small is really personable size and not shareable get the bigger one if you want to share.

I like this place more and more every time I go! Our waiter (Ricky?) was amazing and flawlessly took care of our huge lunch party. I've always had the pork here but branched out and ordered the salmon. I'm picky about my salmon because my husband can grill it to perfection but this salmon was also cooked perfectly. It was on top of a bed of corn avocado salsa which was the perfect complement. Still more things on this menu I'd like to try as well as some of their cocktails. I'll be back!!

My wife and I are driving to our timeshare down south. When I was younger I drove with a buddy from Memphis to Brooklyn nonstop! Somehow my wife doesn't understand the enthusiasm of driving without stopping so I look on my Yelp app for a nice sit down restaurant. I'd also like a sweet tea, perhaps some grits? I mean, we are down south but I always have to be aware of regional BBQ sauces. See, I might be a guy from NY but I am well versed in Southern. My search brings us to Midwood Smokehouse.Walking in, this is a nice looking restaurant. The bar area is off to the side and there are plenty of outside seating. Mrs Bill S doesn't know about bugs the size of a VW beetle so I tell the host stand an indoor table please. The menu looks really fun! I found my grits, topped with burnt ends. My wife went straight for the brisket. Mrs S is in the zone, she loves the beans and told me the brisket was very moist. My burnt ends, heaven! Fatty little pieces of BBQ goodness topped on top of grits. It's like a hug in my belly. No dessert, it's time to get back on the road. This was a nice diversion, I thank you for the hospitality.

This was our last restaurant in North Carolina before heading to the Airport home and the food here is very good. They even wrapped a left over smoked chicken breast for me to take on the plane and it was delicious even cold dipped in their Yellow sauce. Here is the roundup:Smoked Brisket: 4.5 of 5--may be their best dish.Smoked Chicken: 4 of 5--a little on the dry side but still very good.Smoked Bean: 5 of 5--Make sure to get them.Broccoli: 5 of 5--You will never have Broccoli that tastes like this.Sweet potato fries--3 of 5--They could do better with another vendor.Hush Puppies-- 3 of 5--Nothing special.Pickles--5 of 5--The Best!Service: 5 of 5++: You will not get better service anywhere else anywhere then with Rickey here--ask for his section.Smoker Tour after the meal: 5 of 5--Simply amazing including the kitchen staff we met--hardest working people ever.Parking--we parked for a fee in the nice covered garage down the block in the complex.COLD: Special section--I know you have keep the area in the kitchen cold around the Smoker for the sake of the Kitchen personnel--but the temps inside this restaurant dining are killing your business. I would not return here and sit inside again--it's way TOO COLD. I went back to the car for a jacket and I was better, but the Food Got Cold Too Fast on the table. This is a problem. If you are wondering why customers don't return--it's not the food or service--it's TOO COLD in the dining room.Find a way to cool the kitchen and not the dining room if possible--you may need to make modifications.Anyone dining inside here--bring a good jacket and long sleeve shirt. There is also outside seating we should have sat.If you are on you way to the airport and want a great meal for the plane ask them to package the chicken and sides for you--they have the wrap and containers.

A good bbq spot is so hard to find but I seem to have found one in Raleigh. This place was so amazing that I even saved room for dessert. (I never order dessert lol). I got the burnt ends with broccoli casserole and baked beans. Everything was so savory. The service was impeccable. They even allow you to sample menu items if you're unsure. As an incredibly indecisive person, I love that. ( I sampled the Mac & Cheese and decided it wasn't my favorite but it wasn't bad.) This is a good place for a large party and the entire family as it is very spacious. It's a country core aesthetic and relaxed on the inside. There is also patio and outdoor seating outside if that's what you prefer!

After a few afternoon beers, we wanted BBQ. I saw Midwood Smokehouse was nearby and we immediately walked over.Hubby and I had been to the Columbia, SC location before but it was his brothers' first time.We were seated and ordered within minutes. We shared the pimento cheese fries with chopped brisket. This was an amazing appetizer! The crinkle-cut fries were flawlessly crispy. No shortage of melty pimento cheese or delicious chopped brisket. I highly recommend trying this! For my entree, I ordered a half rack of Saint Louis pork ribs. It came with hushpuppies and house pickles, I chose collard greens as my side. Hubby ordered the small Carolina pork with mac & cheese.Everything was tasty! The ribs were tender and flavorful, they didn't even need sauce. Hushpuppies were delicious, not dry at all. The collard greens were cooked marvelously and so succulent. The house pickles are fresh and delicious. Hubby enjoyed his meal as well but did say the Carolina pork was better at the other location. He added on a small banana pudding and loved it.My brother-in-law was using the BBQ sauce bottle when it exploded all over his plate and shirt. Multiple servers as well as the manager came over to help and apologize. They even gave him a free shirt to change into and comped his meal. The service was truly top notch!Great food, excellent service, trendy location, definitely worth a visit!

Nice location with parking deck across the street and free on weekends. We came here with a couple who recommended this place. I ordered the burnt ends which were full of flavor and tender. Hush puppies were hot and crispy on the outside. Loved the cold sour pickles which were a great accompaniment with the meat. Fries were hot and crispy. Staff was friendly and attentive. Restaurant is very clean and spacious.

Since the ownership very kindly reached out after my last review, we decided to return for a second meal. We experienced great service and a decent meal, but there were still a couple disappointments. On the bright side, the ribs and hush puppies were still incredible and the baked beans were delicious. The beef burnt ends and collard greens were pretty tasty. On the other hand, the Dirty Ranch Water drink we ordered was not great. The top (with a nice tajin rim) tasted like nothing, but the bottom of the drink (through straw) tasted strongly of canned pineapple juice and not much else. The special that day, the pork burnt ends, were very dry, almost to the point of being difficult to swallow.Overall, we had a pretty good experience. Midwood is probably worth trying, especially for the ribs.
