Micheaux's Southern Cuisine

Straight to the point, the food is just damn good. My experience was on Sunday with several hungry Churchgoers in line for takeout. The food isn't order from a menu but rather cafeteria style moving in a line making your food choices before checkout. We decided to eat at the restaurant which is small space with both tables and booths. Ok maybe it's me but the portions sizes could feed me for two days, easily. I had the meatloaf with tomato sauce, cabbage and yams with jalapenos cornbread. A great example of not the definition of comfort food. Of course, I couldn't leave without dessert and nor should you. The pound cake more than satisfied my desire for a simple but delicious dessert. Missouri City is a bit of a drive for me but I'll be back.

Incredible soul food with helpful staff & service! Cafeteria style service but you can also order to go/takeout. Strip mall parking and it's not hard to find. I found food was good value also.Oxtail w rice, candied yams, mac n cheese - Oxtail braised so nicely it near fell off the bone. Generous amount of gravy also. Yams were a bit sweet in my opinion but still delicious. Mac n cheese was too soft for me but flavor was good. Their portions are generous, the amount of food I packed to go filled the box and it looked like I'd assembled another meal. About $30, yes it's more expensive but it's oxtail. Fried chicken, okra & tomato - Fried chicken is SOLID. They season the hell out of that batter. Not too greasy either, nice texture. Okra and tomato cooked properly and had good flavor. Cornbread was a good moisture, I prefer a sweeter cornbread but this was good still. About $25On top of that service was kind and felt homely. This is the kind of food you miss when you're out of state. Owners are the sweetest people & looks like this spot is popular for a good reason.

Micheaux's is special. A truly delightful soul food experience. The entire staff is always nice and friendly. I've had meals to go and dine in.My favorite dishes:Fried catfish is hands down some of the best I've ever had. It's always fried golden brown, well seasoned with their signature batter and they don't skimp on the portion size.Jalapeno cornbread is definitely extra delicious. I think they use red jalapenos in it which gives it a signature taste. It's always baked just right.Fried shrimp is delicious. They are always colossal in size and have excellent flavor. The only feedback I would suggest is finding a way to make the batter adhere to the shrimp better. Whenever I bite into one, the batter always separates from it. But it still gets eaten. Lol.The fried chicken is succulent, juicy, crunchy and crispy. I would really love to know their frying technique because I can't get fried chicken like that at home. Unique and delicious flavor.Blackened salmon is 10/10. Unbelievably flavorful all while holding in the juices to keep it moist. Excellent choice of seasonings and spices. Highly recommend.I've had other items such as the candied yams, mac n cheese, and greens which are also good. They also have a good selection of desserts!All in all, from the customer service, the delicious soul food and the fair pricing, this is a family owned business that is sure to please just about everyone who visits.

This was my first time trying Micheaux's. And let me say this. They didn't disappoint!!! The staff was courteous and the restaurant was clean. I took my food to go and when I got home I was so glad I didn't settle for a burger. This food was amazing. Micheaux's you have gained another customer. I SHALL RETURN.

First impression - spacious, lots of seating, variety of food, menu easy to read. Service was lacking a little. The first lady who served our food had a curt tone towards us. My friend asked for meatloaf and she told us very curtly it was only served Sundays. Ok no problem! I asked for blackberry cobbler and she quickly shut me down saying they don't have any and I also asked for banana pudding and she said the other ladies will help with that. Her attitude was somewhat condescending towards us. Kind of a turn off for our first time. Food was great though! And the last two ladies who helped us were kind. Oxtail was fall off the bomb, mac and cheese was yummy, and the banana pudding was delicious.

Cafeteria style setup where food is prepared & you get in line to select your food choices. Servers behind the counter were friendly and even though there was a line, it moved fairly quickly. Spinach had great flavor with garlic & onions. Way better than your average spinach side dish. Cabbage & yams were equally good. Baked chicken was moist. It's a half chicken & even the breast was moist. This is a great place to pick up soul food to -go or dine in. I actually chose to dine in on a Sunday afternoon and the seating area of booths & tables was small but fine. Got a bread pudding to go and it was sinfully good. Just absolutely wonderful!!I will easily come back & try out other dishes.

This was the most disappointing overpriced $50 meal I have had in a while. I got the Oxtails, salmon, white rice, cabbage, green beans, collard greens and sweet potatoes (entree + 2 sides + cornbread). The initial server was making all sorts of unnecessary faces when I told her I did not want gravy on our rice and that my son wanted ox tails. I had to say more then once no gravy on the rice before she moved on. The salmon was a very thin long piece which was very disappointing given the price and came with a sauce that I declined but was forced to take by the same lady. Cabbage was underwhelming and the green beans were oddly spicy with a weird flavor. The greens were decent and the oxtails just ok. My son LOVES rice and said the rice wasn't good and only took a few bites (it was hard and dry - no wonder the lady kept trying to slather it with gravy!). Even the cornbread was dry and tasteless but moist/wet on top. Our whole meal was sub par and luke warm which o think made it worse. The staff were all nice and a young lady stopped by a number of times to check on us. Unfortunately we left annoyed, hungry and feeling greasy. We won't be back and won't recommend it.

The food was great!!!! It was fresh and perfectly seasoned! The staff are extremely courteous and attentive. The owner came to our table and made sure everything was good. I highly recommend this restaurant for good home cooking! Even the ladies' room was spotless!
