Tropicana Food By The Pound

This place never disappoints. Their arroz imperial is absolutely delicious. I specifically get requests to over-order for parties, so everyone has some to take home! They don't take orders over the phone. That's the only real issue I have run into. You have to go in person to place your order. The staff is very nice. They also serve single dishes for take out or to eat there. Everything looks appetizing and their sandwiches look quite yummy. I highly recommend!

It is what it is and what it is is amazing. A date night spot this is not, but a place to comfortably grab great food is what you find under the Tropical food sign. I wrote this place off when I passed by because it looked like a little sketch buffet but boy was I wrong. If you take the time to venture into this spot and go try some of the dishes you'll find what I found. What I found is a great place that is easily a 5 in its own category of restaurants. I can't speak from a long background in eating Cuban food. I'm from San Diego California and know my Mexican food. What I can tell you is that I thoroughly enjoyed my food selection. Yelp reviews spoke highly of this place and that is what led me through the doors of this eatery. Not just the random reviews by people with no history of reviews, but some of the local elites were in on this secret spot. You can either pay by the pound or get a plate with 1 protein and 2 sides. Not sure of what to get, we asked if samples were possible and they were. It made what looked like questionable choices into solid decisions when you realize the pork is amazing. To maximize variety we opted for plates and got everything different. The pork and the beef in a stew were the mains we opted. The sides we went with were the red beans and rice, sweat plantains, mashed potatoes and the garbanzo bean soup. Last minute when we checked out I added the 3 leches and flan.Everything was really good and I cannot recommend enough that if you are in the area and want some good Cuban food while being comfortable then come here.On the service side the guy was very helpful and polite and unintentionally funny. When I asked what kind of chicken​ one of the dishes was he smiled and said it's chicken. Not really a language barrier but that didn't hinder me ordering.Place was clean and small amounts of seating served us well. No complaints and if I come back to Miami I'm coming here again.

This has been a staple in our family for years! The food is delicious, exactly what you would expect from a small ventanita that has been around for years. They don't try to "wow" guests with fancy decor or novelties, their focus is on making good food. You can order at the window or go inside. I recommend the chicken soup or ropa vieja (or both). Check this place out in youre around Flagler Park Plaza- it's worth it!

Got here at 0925 hours on Sunday Morning July 2021 and the Restaurant is closed. The business hours need updating on the site and on their door. I was not able to try the food.

Tropicana has been open for as long as I can remember. I don't think there has been a name change or anything like that, making it a long standing food service. A while back I lived in that neighborhood and I frequented Tropicana, specially in the days when Miamians showed little interest in gastronomy. It used to be a good source of Cuban food without having to go to La Carreta or Versailles, which at the time weren't that great anyway.This place is mainly used for takeout, although there are a few tables available inside. There is also a cafeteria window, where people buy coffee, lottery tickets and cigarettes, the joy of the poor and destitute. At the window there is also a large orange Gatorade tank full of cold water for those roaming aimlessly.The food in Tropicana has always been pretty good. It is no better than a restaurant, but it is better than any Cuban influenced food by the pound joint. I specially come here when I am craving carne con papa, because it is the best I have had in Miami. Anything else is really OK, sometimes surprisingly good, but most of the time just average. Here, you will never get up and throw the food in the garbage, or leave any left overs. The food is very simple yet very tasty and better than any fast food place.Now, this place is not cheap. A full meal will run around $8, but it comes with soup and salad or side. There are no lunch specials, but the food is plenty and well cooked. Also, they have desserts available, and I recommend the flan, which is really good. Certainly not a place to seek out, or to get out of your way to reach it, but a good decent place where you will be served good food and won't be disappointed. They also cater, so if you have an event they will supply the food. And also, the best carne con papa in Miami.

This establishment isn't fancy by any means but they more than make up for it with great tasting, inexpensive latin food. This place is one of our "go to" take out places. The staff is very friendly, the place is clean, the food tastes great and the portions are beyond generous... What more can you ask for?

I found this place because of its high rating and quickly found out why. I ordered food for a family gathering of 30 people and the food was really good that everyone was fighting to take home the leftovers. |Arros imperial with side of platanos maduros|I truly recommend this place for large takeout orders. Excellent food, good service. The service portion is really good, great prices! I love lentils and I was recommended to go to this restaurant for the lentils, OMG they are GREAT! They have a variety of food, everything looks fresh and good. From now on I know where to go when I don't feel cooking! Thanks
