"First of all the decor and atmosphere in this place is super comfy and cute. When we entered the restaurant we knew we were in for a major treat! After a long day of volunteering and our first visit to Oxford , we were anxious to eat a good hearty meal. AJAX did NOT disappoint! We were greeted by Emily, who is not only just beautiful- but a real star! Her smile was contagious! She gave great insights on the menu and her suggestions were spot on! We had the red bean rolls- when you go here- EAT SOME OF THESE! Our appetizers came out immediately and then our food followed in a matter of minutes. Everything came to the table piping hot and flavorful! Needless to say I will be returning here on my next trip to Oxford. If you come here, and you will- ask for Emily and tip her WELL!"

"If there's ONE thing to get here.... it's without question the cinnamon roll.I had breakfast...I asked for crispy bacon but since my over medium egg's whites were not done, they had to redo them and I ended up getting new bacon too...kinda limp..But I got this giant cinnamon roll and it took all my sadness away.It was THEEEEEE best cinnamon roll I've ever tasted - I shared with my table mates and had plenty more left for me.It was so tasty, the eggs the 2nd time around were cooked properly and the has browns and bacon were just ok... (1 star removed).Had it not been for that big beautiful cinnamon roll, I'd easily be at a 3.But I'd come back and give them another shot."

"My husband and I usually go to Fenwick's for weekend breakfast, so we decided to give their lunch a try. Or at least I decided to give their lunch a try since my husband ordered the breakfast burrito for his lunch. I ordered their Classic Burger (on the menu as a Cheeseburger) with the Kale Caesar salad as my side. Even though I was never asked what temperature I liked my burger, so it was a little more well done than I liked--OMG was that burger delicious. I normally can't eat an entire burger but I just could not stop eating it. I wolfed down that entire burger.FYI - I usually get the Kevin BLT for breakfast and that is great too. I love the blue cheese aioli combined with the thick slabs of bacon. Yum.Definitely stop in for the burger!"

"I always love a basic diner style restaurant. You can't go wrong with the no frills of Wendell Smith's. We went for a late breakfast. My wife had a starchy meal. Eggs with grits, potatoes and biscuits. Everything was excellent I had perfectly cooked eggs and the potatoes were very good, definitely get the onions on the potatoes If you are looking for trendy, this is not it If you are looking for good basic food with nice people, try this. I don't think you will be disappointed."

"This place has some delicious food, and they were open on Labor Day just a five minute walk from where I was staying, but, alas, a couple servers had decided to call in so there was a long wait, which many people gave up on.The food is worth waiting for, particularly the grits (I got the Chicken Sausage Grits bowl) and their biscuits and egg concoction (Big Ole Biscuit Bake, I think) but be prepared to wait, potentially."

Picked up our dinner only to find out once I got home they had left out the salad, chili and fries. Drove back across town after calling, picked up the rest of the food and checked before leaving to find they still had forgotten the chili. Waited on the chili, drove home and once I opened the salad found out they gave me the wrong salad. Back across town for a third time only to have the hostess get rude once I arrived. Your staff screwed up multiple times and now you're gonna get mad like I'm in the wrong? An hour and a half after picking up the first part of my order and I finally have everything. If you are getting take out from here take out everything while at the store and verify it is all there."

"Very small, cute decorated (with royal blue and white tiles on walls of dinning room and also in restrooms. Waitress came rite over and got our order for "sweet tea". WOW if you don't know sweet tea in the South is you're in for a SWEET surprise. I had to ask for plain tea to dilute this southern treat. We got the recommend local cat dinner. Such a plate of catfish I've ever seen! It was so sweet and tender, not the heavy breading like most restraints serve. Served along with the fish was a big pile of fries and a goodly portion of cold slaw. The waitress displayed the well known southern hospitality, in my experience a rarity in many Northern states. The tab about $20.00 with tip for the three of us. Can't wait to come here again next month while traveling again."

"On Memorial Day Weekend we called for a reservation and the lady on the phone said that they may close early due to business being slow, but if we were there before 8:PM they would happily serve us. Making it in the door just before 8:PM to be seated was most likely not a good idea, we took our chances and were seated in the main dinning room, a lovely place. We placed our appetizer order while looking over the menu. Due to the fact that my sweetheart has an allergy to Gluten and most of the appetizers were fried we chose the Seared Scallops, now as not to waste time and knowing they wanted to close early we made our dinner choices, the 14oz Sirloin cooked Medium and the Seared Ahi Tuna with the the marinade on the side as these marinade usually have soy sauce in them and most soy sauces have gluten. Now our appetizer came to the table Fried Scallops ?We looked at the plate and looked at each other, then we asked to see the menu again, we were sure that we ordered the Seared Scallops, the owner came over and asked if there was a problem and we asked about the Scallops and told her about my Sweetie's gluten allergy, she stated that you can have the scallops Seared or Fried, she never offered to take them back and prepare them seared as we were sure that we ordered or to prepare something else for us. Now comes the dinner, my Steak was cooked perfectly medium, but, the Ahi Tuna was over cooked. Needless to say my sweetheart did not have a good dinner or experience at the Brass Lantern however, we will give them another chance as we all know that anyone can have a bad day and it was not all bad, their place is a charming spot just off of the lake. I did read on their website that the owners moved to Kentucky to open this restaurant, the husband has many years of experience in restaurant management and the wife has a bookeeping background, this must have been the bookeeper we encountered as her hospitality and customer service was not her strong suit."

"Well, you guessed it. It is a dive bar! But this place has a lot of memories for me, so I love it.You see, all of the cool kids in college used to hang out here back in my Rhodes days. And by cool kids I mean the frat guys. Cute frat guys. 12 years later and I'm still nostalgic about this place. And when I walked in their door last night, I was pleasantly surprised to find the cute boy I'm dating standing by the bar...just like old times. Yes, it is smokey. "Maybe we just got lucky Christmas morning, 2022, but I don't think so...there were 4 huge to go orders ahead of us and whoever was running the show was on point! She made sure everyone was working efficiently and that the inside customers were getting helped. The food was perfectly cooked and our waitress was precious as gold. We even had a young lady come around to offer us coffee. We are big fans of WH. I know there can be some bad experiences sometimes but not here. Not today."
