Mary Mac's Tea Room is without a doubt a historic Atlanta institution. It was fascinating to walk around the restaurant and read the news articles about it or see the famous figures who have dined there. Our hostess and server were both very friendly. Since it was our first time dining there, they gave us a complimentary potlicker (collard green juice) and corn bread. We ordered the roast turkey with a side of fried green tomatoes and the sweet potato soufflé. Also got a fried chicken plate with fried okra and tomato pie. So much food! The portions at this place are huge. The roast turkey was delicious. So juicy and just the right amount of salt. It was my first time trying fried green tomatoes and they went really well with the horse radish sauce. The sweet potato soufflé was sweet and had delicious cinnamon/clove flavor. The fried chicken was good, but not the best I've ever had. I loved the fried okra and I thought the tomato pie was a really unique side. I definitely would recommend trying Mary Mac's Tea Room when visiting Atlanta! Great cultural history and value!!

Must visit!! I called ahead to verify that they were open as many businesses were closed the last day of Hurricane Helene. The lady who answered the phone replied they "were waiting for me to get down there as everyone was bored and wanting to talk to me." She told me to put my shoes on and drive safe. Now what better invitation could I get than that. This is probably my fourth or fifth time coming to Mary Mac's. No visit to Atlanta is complete without an outing here for some delicious southern food. I was seated in the Ponce Room to the left of the main entrance. The walls of every room are lined with newspaper articles featuring the restaurant as well as pictures of famous people who have eaten at Mary Mac's. I had the pleasure of being helped by my waitress Kam. She was extremely sweet and kind. Very personable. Couldn't have asked for a better or nicer person. She asked for my name which is unusual in California but is probably normal in the south. I loved that she used my name throughout the evening. I started the with the cocktail - Mary Mac's Peach Mojito. It is strong! The Bacardi was a good complement to the peach nectar which got stuck in the straw so you will probably need a larger one. For my second cocktail, I went with the Georgia Peach Martini. Holy moly it is fire. It is sweet and a little too sugary but has lots of booze. Beware for those who are faint of heart. For dinner, I ordered the Chicken Fried Chicken with broccoli soufflé and macaroni and cheese. The portion of the chicken is huge. The chicken is moist and the coating is crispy. It is served with a great white pepper gravy. As a lover of broccoli, I had to get the broccoli soufflé and it is fantastic. I think it has a bread crumb topping. The macaroni and cheese was fine but I was underwhelmed. For dessert, I went with the peach cobbler is bordering on hot so be careful. If you are not careful, you will burn your mouth. Blow on it. It was essentially apple pie but with peaches. It has large slices of peaches with cut outs of pie crust. It was okay. I expected more. Fantastic music playing in the back - R&B and Soul - Earth, Wind & Fire, One Way, Rick James, Luther Vandross, Donna Summer. I wanted to get up and start a dance party in the middle of the restaurant. If you are in Atlanta, you have to come here. Be ready for a great meal and time!

Great rec from a local. Love the historical ambiance and history of the place. Complimentary ice tea when you wait. Everyone was very kind. Got served corn bread and roll before our food came out. The cornbread was fairly salty. Wish they had honey or something sweet to balance it. Our food took a while to come out. It's a big restraurant so I assume they were busy or backed up. They gave us some pot likker since it was our fist time. It was worth the wait. I got the 3 leg fried chicken with collard greens and fried okra. The fried chicken was well flavored that I just ate it as it was, meaty and juicy. The collard greens and okra were good. Had a bite of mac and cheese that was pretty good as well.

I've been here countless times. I brought friends and family to this restaurant to dine in. I also got carry out. Your know that the food was good when you didn't take pics. The food is delicious so you eat. I always get the cranberry sauce on the side if I order dressing. They usually give you cornbread muffins, rolls and small cinnamon rolls in the white bag. Yesterday was the last time I didn't receive the cinnamon rolls. I got the 4 pc chicken with 2 sides. Mac and cheese and dressing this time. The sweet potato sufflee is delicious also. They also put hot sauce and plastic wear in the bag..I purchased through uber eats on 10/9/2024 while visiting my cousin who is at Emory University Hospital. I'm not getting uber eats delivery ever again only pick up do to the driver who stole my cinnamon rolls. Park in the front if you want to pay a meter. Park behind the building for free.

Maybe one day I'll return to try their "legendary fried chicken" but I personally wasn't overly impressed with this place. If I closed my eyes and didn't know anything about the history of this establishment, I'd honestly have to give it 3 stars. The meatloaf had a more meaty taste vs. a stuffing taste and it looked and tasted like someone just opened a can of tomato sauce and poured it over. The mac and cheese was solid but nothing amazing. Broccoli soufflé was good! Service was sub average - our waiter was not very present and someone in our party eventually got up to pour himself some water because ours couldn't be found. Perhaps they're short staffed? Not entirely sure but the service was a little lacking. The bread was also very average. The cornbread was thin, on the drier side, and not very buttery. The bread rolls were nothing special. A plus is that they do have a free, small parking lot. Considering the location, it's very nice that they have this. Otherwise there's street parking.

I have been there every week since I came to Atlanta! This is definitely a great restaurant for soul food. There are many reasons: the taste of food, the price and decent serving size, the service, the easy-for customization menu, and it is easy to order healthy stuff there. I have tried many dishes, including for example shrimp and grits, pan fried cube steak, pork chops, blackened salmon, and of course various side dishes. I am pretty satisfied with everything except the pork chop which was a bit too firm for me. The fried chicken with brown gravy paired perfectly with meat. The salmon was cooked to perfection, tender and juicy inside, crispy outside, and the seasoning gave it extra flavor but did not shadow it. The broccoli soufflé was a creamy and recessed as a great side dish. Besides, do not miss their cornbread! Have it when it was warm, or spend just $3 extra to get a dozen of them for next day breakfast!Besides food, the stuff there was nice. They are good at remembering customers. In fact one waiter remembered me just after serving me once. I will keep going to this spot for meal, and perhaps take my friends there to let them know how amazing soul food is!

Service was great. We paid $61 with tip For mediocre food. The best bite was the catfish but it was a touch too salty. The chicken and dumplings were the biggest disappointment. They simply had no flavor. That's where the salt could have been added. "Pot Likker" (collard green juice) with cornbread & yeast rolls. My husband couldn't stand the smell of the juice. The cornbread was a touch too salty but the yeast rolls were very good. Very soft and buttery. Potato salad didn't have much seasoning. I thought the stuffing & gravy was a decent bite but my husband didn't care for it. Hush puppies weren't too special either. I can make better collard greens. The fried green tomato's were a fun bite. Those are hard to find up north.

I stopped in to Mary Mac's on the recommendation of a friend and it did not disappoint! It is honestly just a simple restaurant with delicious home cooked southern food. As I was by myself, I hopped in a seat at the bar and was provided with a drink immediately. I was then able to quickly order a chicken n dumplings meal with bread, sweet potatoes, and broccoli casserole. Even with a sweet tea added in, my final bill was barely $20.00! Let's just say that I tipped generously on the bill, as I also received top notch service. This meal was exactly what I needed as I had a long drive home ahead of me. And I was incredibly grateful to not have to overspend on my last dinner in Atlanta.

We were a group of six people working in Atlanta for the week and excited to try out this historic restaurant. The ambience was interesting and inviting. We enjoyed looking at all of the photographs and paintings. Unfortunately, there was a very unpleasant smell in the dining room. The odor resembled urine and made the whole experience unpleasant. The fried chicken was delicious but not extraordinarily so. The potatoes were not hot and neither was the tomato pie. None of us ended up eating all of our food and nobody took any home. It wasn't awful but not up to our expectations.
