So I wanted to give this place a good write up but I can't. What really didn't work for me was their service. This isn't on the person that greeted us or sat us down. It was the waitress that was assigned to our table. We were waiting for the rest of our party to arrive. The waitress came to our table didn't say hi or introduce herself at all and just ask "ready to order?" We stated we are waiting for the rest of our party. The waitress didn't say anything else and just walked off. Didn't ask if we wanted a drink or water or anything. The waitress was rude and unprofessional. We were also greeted with physical menus from the person that sat us we ordered our food ahead of time and the physical menus were taken. When our friends showed up the waitress pointed to the barcode on the center of the table when they had asked for a physical menu (which were less than 6-8ft away) Food was okay, the only thing I enjoyed the most was their Vietnamese Coffee. I wish I could say better things about this restaurant but the poor service received from the waitress just kind of ruined the night for us.

I've been to Mai's many times. This time I was desperate at the hospital so I ordered via UberEats. I don't usually have an issue with their pricing but everything seemed expensive. So I'm going to blame delivery fees. Everything was yummy and still very hot. They didn't really understand all my comments in my order so they called for clarification. Top notch customer service as always. Will of course be back to this Houston staple and soon. Glad they were able to serve me in a pinch.

I love Mai's Restaurant. If I had a choice to eat one thing it would this food restaurant. Everything is authentic and cooked with TLC. Enjoy the fact that they are open after midnight but closed on Sundays. Great service, even better food, with amazing people! Looking forward for Going back for my birthday soon. On my 3rd visit I will my usual and something else different.

This place is consistently great! I ordered the Vietnamese egg rolls that came with lettuce, cilantro, mint and fish sauce! Soooo goood! In addition, I got a bowl of wonton soup off the appetizer menu. Holy Moly!!!! The broth was so flavorful, the wontons were stuffed full with meat and the wonton wrapper was nice and then. Just perfection! My only complaint is that the Vietnamese egg rolls used to be a bigger portion, and now there are just 4 in an order and they are a bit small... I'd like to see the portion a bit bigger for the price!

One of the staples of Houston includes this Vietnamese restaurant that has the best pho and vermicelli bowls in town. The spring rolls are delicious and addicting. The service is always friendly and fast. The environment is inviting and they are open until 3am!

Gotta love a late night eats after going out. We stopped by Mai's on a Friday night/early Saturday morning around 2:30am to grab a bite. It was pretty crowded but we got seated and taken care of. I got the shrimp fried rice and broccoli. The food was decent for a late night bite (probably wouldn't eat here any other time), service was quick and there was ample parking.

This use to be our go to spot after the bars. Too old for that now, but after playing a fun game of darts, we came here since they were able to accomodate 16 people! We ordered the shaken beef, and dang, it was actually very good! Service was good and friendly. Pricing is reasonable for portion size and taste.

I love a late night authentic food spot! I came in late night to a bustling crowd. Staff was very quick to find us a seat despite us not having reservations and having a full house. When we were seated, we were given physical menus as well as the QR codes on the table. Staff was attentive to our drinks and provided us refills without request. Food was delicious and fresh! I got the Bun Bo Hue, one of my personal favorites, and was provided with fresh herbs with the perfect amount of crunch in an aromatic, piping hot, genuinely flavorful soup. My friend, who isn't as accustomed to Vietnamese cuisine was surprised to find that the chicken was tender and seasoned well, as he is generally a picky eater. Overall, combined with the aesthetic and lively crowd, I truly enjoyed my experience at Mai's and would love to come back!

Mai was an institution in this area of downtown Houston since the 80s, 90s era and it was the reliable place to come, especially late night after clubbing! Through the years, downtown has become residential and Mai's also updated the restaurant, tweaked the menu for the current local residents. Recently we stopped by, ordering food to go. The food was still decent for the area, although lacking the depth of yesteryear. We ordered the fish in clay pot, shaking beef and the Mekong soup. We must be the few customer ordering the fish entree that day because they gave us a big portion! It was somewhat bland, lacking the authentic flavor, but the leftover fish tasted much better the next day...like typical braised or stewed food. Mekong soup had the essential ingredients but a bit sweet. Overall I would say Mai's is a solid 3 for the food and an extra star for opening late !
