This is probably the best Ethiopian food in the city (sorry Desta). The flavors are dialed up to 11! I had the vegetarian platter and everything on it was the best version I've ever had. It's a small spot off Buford Hwy, ambiance is nice inside (despite the super sketchy center they're in.) Also, the service was attentive and very kind and helpful!

The service was quick and friendly. I appreciate the warm welcome and kindness of everyone here. It's a small business that is simply designed with pictures and textures of Ethiopia. I placed a two orders to go because there was a threat of rain and I needed to get to my side of town before I got stuck too far away from home. I ordered the veggie plate and the lamb tibs. The lamb was perfectly tender with the right amount of spice to add heat without being overpowering to the meat. The lamb tibs were cooked with onions and tomatoes slices. The veggie plate included greens, red lentils, and yellow split peas. There was plenty of injera but there did not seem to be a lot of veggies. I was a little disappointed about it, but since I had the lamb too I figured it would be fine. By the time, I ordered my food and got home, I was starving and had no time or desire to take pictures of my food. As far as the overall flavor, while I cannot describe the flavor I was experiencing in my mouth, I can say it was not exactly the flavor of Ethiopian food I have had in the past. Considering that everyone cooks differently and has their own take on the food they prepare, this restaurant is no different than any other style that uses its own interpretations. What you like is all based upon what you prefer. Think of this the same way you describe which fast food chicken brand you like. It is definitely a distinct flavor here that I would rather not have, but it wasn't bad at all. Again the fast food chicken analogy would be some people like "The Colonel," but I like that "Louisiana style of fried chicken." Based on my preference of Ethiopian food, I would probably try another place next time or stick to the one I know.

I lived and worked in Ethiopia for five years before and after the revolution. I've found some really good Ethiopian restaurants in Atlanta but the best doro wot I've had so far has been at Kategna! If you're looking for authentic doro wot with kebe instead of zeate this is the place for you. Not only the best doro wot but the staff were very patient with my Amharic.I'll return to sample the rest of the menu!

This is was my first time trying this Ethiopian Restaurant. Anytime I need my Ethiopian Cuisine, I always go to Desta. Follow me to see my past reviews!I ordered over the phone but they have other 3rd party delivery carriers to assist with getting your meals. My order was placed by a nice lady and she told me it will be ready in 15 mins. I came in around 1:30p and the place was empty so I did not have to wait for my order. Average size restaurant with seating. It did appear clean and have good energy. TVs on the walls. Tea bar and other drink machines. All I had was cash so she had to go next door to break a $50. It did not bother me none because I understand some businesses are going cashless so I was grateful she was able to accommodate me. The food was delicious and feeling. I ordered the Ribeye ribs because this type of meat does whole more flavor. The red lentils and collard greens for my side. Majority of their food is gluten free and plenty of vegetarian options available. 5/5 rating for food, ambiance and service :)You can't go wrong

My friend and I arrived for lunch in the middle of the week to all the tables open to pick from. We shared a Veggie Platter and Ribeye Tibs lunch size with a free side of injera bread. Veggie platter had two types of lentils, collard greens, cabbage, an unexpected carrot mixture and more! My favorite was the one I was least familiar with so I would advise trying that portion as opposed to lunch side which only comes with 3 types. The tibs were tender and well seasoned with a few tomato slices. Starving walking in but stuffed and satisfied walking out, what more can you want? Staff were beyond friendly and even gave us a complimentary Baklava each just because they happened to be making a fresh batch already. Overall, I had a great experience! Delicious food for $20 each in a family own restaurant will definitely be calling my name again. It was clean and comfortable environment that I enjoyed hanging out in. I recommend others to give them a try!

Food 5/5 It was so delicious. We got the vegetarian platter and chicken. Portions were large. Chicken was juice and so flavorful. We didn't get spicy but it had so much flavor without. You get a surprise baklava for dessert. Atmosphere 3/5Basic restaurant. Some TVs showing fun Ethiopian music videos. Service 4/5One waitress who was great just a little slow because only one person there. We had a very relaxed / slow dinner and it ends up a nice evening.

I just landed in Atlanta, and after a delayed flight, I was starving. I was so happy that this place was open.I walked in to a slightly empty restaurant and was immediately greeted. I ordered salmon tibs with red lentils (server recommended) and injera. I was asked for my spice preference, and I said medium to be safe, since it was my first time. The ambiance is fairly casual. It was late and there's a night club/lounge next door, but it wasn't overly loud.My friend also craved something sweet, so we ordered tiramisu and green tea cheesecake. Everything was DELICIOUS! The salmon was enough to last me two meals, so my $22 was well spent. Now that I know the spice level, I can definitely go spicier next time. We loved that the desserts weren't overly sweet but packed with flavor.Looking forward to returning whenever I'm back in Atlanta!
