5 stars for vibes and service - love the livelihood here! Unlike most Vietnamese restaurants this definitely brings a bar/nightlife scenery with lots of big TVs. Parking is available on both sides of the restaurant. There is both indoor and outdoor seating (heat lamps available on patio), and good for both larger groups and kids/families. A very well-rounded restaurant I must say!Remember this is "bar food" so don't expect the entrees to blow you away. Food was decently priced but I thought they were just okay. Some of the meat in the vermicelli bowl was hard to eat and the dumplings and spring rolls were not much more than what I can make myself at home. Something notable were QUART sizes available for Thai tea and Vietnamese coffee - I'll be ordering these for takeout one day. The dessert was the main seller for me so save room if you can - Vietnamese coffee tiramisu cake was everything I wanted and more!

Love it! Good selections, prices, and service. Family friendly, not too loud, but I imagine the noise level will pickup after 6:00 pm as it fills up

We've heard good things about Hughie's and finally checked it out with couple friends over the weekend. Located in the Heights, there are some parking available in the parking lots on either side of the building. The restaurant has plenty of inside and outdoor seating. We opted to sit outside since it was the perfect patio weather. The menu has a good mix of traditional Vietnamese cuisine and American brunch/lunch food. They also have many beer on draft. For slightly healthier options, we went with the grilled pork rice bowl with brown rice and the grilled pork vermicelli bowl. The flavors were solid and the portion were generous. I preferred the grilled pork in the rice bowl as it seems to have additional seasoning compared to the grilled pork in the vermicelli bowl. The staffs were friendly and dressed up for Lunar New Year. Overall this is a nice and chill place to hang out with friends especially if you can't quite decide what to eat. We heard they are known for their chicken fried steak, will need to give it a try next time!

Came here for the first time for my friend's BD dinner! This place was fully packed by the time we got here around 6:45 pm on Saturday night!!!Although the staff told us it will take 30 mins but we got our seats by 7 pm! My friends were telling me great things about this place so my expectations were pretty high and yes it was a good place!!! :) Since I didn't know I just ordered the fried rice but other friends did the speciality orders which were combinations of kale salads, seamed rice, seared tofu, garlic and onions!! I missed out but the fried rice was really good and I had no complaints of it!! Definitely will be back here for the speciality next time! Worth the time and money! And I like the vibe of this place! Keep up the good work!! Cheers

We've lived within a mile of Hughie's but have never gone until today when we went with a couple of friends. On the outside, they have ample parking on 20th street and a nice outdoors patio with a few tables. The menu is simple with both traditional Vietnamese fare along with some American classics such as burgers, chicken fried steak, and tendies. We opted for the grilled pork steamed rice plate with brown rice and the grilled pork vermicelli noodle bowl. The pork is well marinated and flavorful and portions are good as well! The rice plate was my preferred out of the two; the pickled veggies + meat + rice + fish sauce was a solid combo that is also balanced. Service is good and the manager was very friendly as well.Would definitely recommend coming here with groups and trying out their other dishes as well.

Visited on a Tuesday evening and had a great time. Staff was very friendly and provided great service. Menu offered a lot of variety (burgers, chicken strips in addition to Vietnamese cuisine). We had wings as an appetizer and the sweet chili rub was super tasty. Wide beer menu as well. Shaking beef vermicelli was my entree and it did not disappoint - very flavorful. Atmosphere was enjoyable and seating was comfy. Will for sure be back!

Ok Hughies is SO Houston. It's a Vietnamese restaurant fused with a Texas beer dive-bar. I remember being so confused the first time I ate here, but the food is delicious. And the staff are always attentive and helpful...even in the most chaotic of times. My go-to are 1. Spring Rolls - well priced, delicious, and the peanut sauce is great2. Shaking Beef - . I usually get extra garlic because I'm a garlic lover and this hits the umami spot.

Dined with family and friends tonight. The restaurant offers indoor and outdoor seating, perfect for those feel good nights. We were seated inside immediately upon arriving. Our waiter explained to us the menu items and offered tastings of the beer on tap. She was nice enough to bring us a few to taste which we appreciated. Opted to instead get the Thai tea, which was really creamy and good. For appetizers, we had the traditional spring rolls, crispy dumplings, and calamari. The spring rolls were very delicious and the peanut sauce was creamy with lots of flavor. The crispy dumplings were just that, and delicious. As for the calamari, we really enjoyed it with the salt and pepper sauce that came with it. It really made the dish outstandingly delicious. We each had a different version of the shacking beef. The meat is very tender seasoned to perfection that just melts in your mouth. It was honestly one of the best filet mignon versions I've ever had in my life. Paired individually with white rice and the surprisingly delicious kale salad, is perfection. Recommend dish with a fried egg and egg roll. The same dish in fried rice and vermicelli bowls are equally good too. The Hughies burger I was surprised that it was very delicious. It was not your average burger. The filet mignon meat was tender and juicy. The fries were also nicely seasoned and crispy. For dessert, we had the Vietnamese coffee tiramisu. I am not a coffe drinker so I'd say it was overall good but a bit overwhelming in coffee, others at the table enjoyed it very much however. They mentioned it was creamy and soft like cake consistency, which is what is expected from tiramisu.

First time customer at Hughies. I can say I had my reservations about it from the appearance of the building but they quickly disappeared after my nose caught a whiff of the grill hard at work. Walking inside this old Queen Burger shell happened to spark nostalgia for my dinner companion. Times of their past stopping next door at Queen Donut made them smile. As for me, the interior put me in mind of an era gone by. The booths and table remind you of an old diner or dive bar, with wood paneling and huge banquets. Multiple TVs harken to this place being the site the of large sporting events and celebrations that might have brought the community together. The menus are straight forward. The staff is extremely accommodating. The tables are touched often to ensure there isn't a need that is unnoticed. The wait staff member was knowledgeable, honest, and joyful. Recommended that I try the Shaken Beef specialty. Started with crispy dumplings. The dipping sauce included sesame seeds which almost gave me pause because I don't like them, but was just the right mix of sweet and umami that paired well with the appetizer. Next, my dinner companion ordered the Vegan Bahn Mi with a side of vermicelli noodles. I did take the server's advice and ordered the Shaken Beef. One of the best plates of food I'd had in a while and wasn't prepare to like it as much as I did. From the medium well beef cubes, to the slightly sticky fried rice to the deliciously fresh Kale salad. It had a light, citrus Vinaigrette dressing, toasted walnut pieces and cranberries. Delightful!I really wish I had the forethought to take a pic to share but it'd been a long day and I was really hungry, LOL! 9/10 (deducting one point for no refills on fountain lemonade) will definitely return when on this side of town.
