Oui Banh Mi

Jando S. "My initial draw to Oui Banh Mi was their drive thru, which similarly to Lee's on Bellaire (#1), is a rarity for any Vietnamese based restaurant in Houston. After a number of visits with average experiences, I'm convinced their food is solid in a pinch, but not exactly a go-to option. Given that a good volume of their business is takeout, they've been an ideal pandemic type restaurant. Seating is minimal on the inside, but there's a few booth type areas for those who want to dine in. They seem quite modern overall with a sleek menu and fun mural to boot. The food is a mixed bag. One could argue that it's watered down and/or a tad gringo'y, but it lives to serve the neighborhood. Their namesake banh mi has been the least appealing thing on their menu since the bread was stale and the portions were paltry at best. I've tried their signature chargrilled pork and pate, which had very little of both. The first time I thought it was a mistake but the subsequent visits of skimpy sandwiches made me think otherwise.I think a better route has been their vermicelli noodles, particularly with chicken and egg rolls. The fish sauce isn't that potent, but it is definitely sweet. I do think their Vietnamese iced coffee is a clear winner and the pho should probably be avoided at all costs. Spring rolls are also a gamble at times, since the wrapping isn't always tight, resulting in a limp roll or one that's constantly falling apart.Service has also been a mixed bag. Minus the occasional order snafu, I find the service really depends who's at the counter. The awkward times of ordering in Viet has been met with a bit of pushback, to the point where my party and I stopped saying banh mi all together.Their prices are good for the area and I think the fact they use the Coco mini-robot delivery machines are cool. I don't think I'd completely say no to Oui, but I'm definitely saying peut être (#2)____________(#1) https://www.yelp.com/biz/lees-sandwiches-houston(#2) Maybe, perhaps."

But i come here often enough on my lunch break and I don't even need a menu anymore. I love that dish! This time,on my visit,i wanted to try something new. You get an egg roll, choice of soup and an entree. In total, I spent $14 and that includes a drink. The second visit was a few days later. I'm a creature of habit & I already knew it would be good so I ordered the Panang curry again. I also ordered 2 ordered of egg roll (you cannot go wrong) and my friend ordered a beef & noodle dish (I was focused on my own food so I didn't get the name, but I was told it was delicious too). The service is impeccable as well. The staff (really just the older guy) is amazing and sweet. From what I've experienced, most people order their food to go, but the inside is super clean and the service is top notch."

Joanna T. "My friends took me here for lunch when I was exploring Katy Asian Town and this was my first time coming. It was raining and kind of gloomy, so I was wanting something cozy and warm and this place was suggested. The restaurant itself is relatively small, but still comfortable. We all ordered our own "make it your own" ramen/hotpot type deal & so I ordered the tomato broth. They serve it hot right at your table and you can add in whatever you like and always order more at an extra cost. It comes with A LOT of noodles, meats, and veggies. The broth tasted like a thick tomato soup, which isn't entirely what I expected basing it off of the tomato bases from other hot pot places, but it was still really good. After putting in all the fixing's, I just waited a few seconds to ensure it was all getting cooked properly, and it was ready to eat. The meat was tender and the noodles were really nice, thick, and had a good chew. The noodles were probably the best part of the meal since it really had good texture and bite. It was very filling though. I felt that I barely made a dent in my noodles and only placed 1/3 of it into my broth - it was really filling. We also ordered some appetizers, but I forgot to take some pictures. We ordered the takoyaki, popcorn chicken, and the Schezwan spiced beef tripe. I am a sucker for takoyaki and popcorn chicken anywhere, so I was very happy with the appetizer selection. The beef tripe was interesting... not really my cup of tea, but it was good. However, I was eating the takoyaki like crazy and enjoying the popcorn chicken like no one's business.Overall, I had a really good experience here and the food was just as good. Completely came here blind, not knowing what to expect, and left feeling happy and glad I tried something new that I definitely will come back for."

I drool over the scrumptious Vietnamese crab tomato noodles soup at Kim Son buffet. But because of the price, I hesitate to eat there. Once I found Viet Alley, I'm in the Noodles Heaven.I bookmarked this restaurant since the CoVid era. I just noticed I could get airline milage rewards, I decided to swing by on a freezing cold night. There were few customers already dining in on a weekday. Plus, few customers picking up their orders. Considering a newer restaurant in the strip mall called Fountain Square, right across from Hong Kong City Mall. The storefront was quite bright. It was hard to miss it. After I enjoyed the crab noodles soup, I decided to some pictures of the menu. Then, I found Noug Mat - herbal drink made with artichokes. Yummy. I used to make them in the summer at home. I got lazy lately. I'd rather drink from the restaurants. There were so many dishes I wanted to try at Viet Alley. They got daily specials; I just need to bring a Vietnamese friend to help me order."

Vicky B. "The ramen place has just opened near my boyfriend and I's place and we were excited to trying it! When we got there, we were greeted by a hostess (tall curly hair, think her name is Jacqueline). and seated promptly after notifying her we wanted dine in. She introduced herself and stated she'd be our waiter as well and asked if we could start off with drinks. We both asked for waters for now to start while we looked over the menu. We both were very interested in the spicy miso ramen so we decided to go with that. But Jacqueline mentioned that we could do the combo option which was the appetizer with the ramen for a better price. So we both decided to get an appetizer as well. I got the spicy beef gyoza since I'd never seen it at any ramen restaurant before. My boyfriend got the crispy chicken which was their version of the chicken karaage. It was very good. My only pointer is that the spicy beef gyoza were not really spicy, and they only gave us a tiny dollop of chili paste on the plate. I would recommend giving a small plate of it as optional instead of a dollop. They also only gave a small dollop of mayo on the crispy chicken plate which I think was meant for dipping but I would recommend giving a small bowl of ponzu sauce with the mayo, or a spicy mayo, and a larger amount instead of such a small dollop for 5 pieces that were fairly large. Not enough mayo at all for the crispy chicken so my boyfriend started dipping it in the gyoza sauce. We also decided to order a small bottle of hot sake and a bottle of Asahi beer along with a Kanikama sushi bites. The bites definitely were like their version of a sushi bake. We asked for wasabi which made the dish much better as there's no dipping sauce for it.Our spicy garnets came out after we finished the last sushi bite, just in time! It's surprisingly very delicious and still a rich flavor even though it's vegetable soup based! I'm super glad it's vegetarian friendly! Overall, The ramen was good, I added garlic and corn which was good and they actually gave alot of garlic for each of us where other ramen restaurants would be more stingy about how much garlic we get. Overall, we both agreed we'd definitely come back for the food. Service was also good with Jacqueline as she's very friendly and knowledgeable about the food and being a waitress!Towards the end of the dinner, Jacqueline had cleared our table as we finished up plates which I really love! However, the other waitress who was working, had come by our table and asked if she could take up our water glasses but we hadn't paid yet. Instead I actually asked for more water because they did not refill my water glass the entire meal. After we paid, the waitress (not jacqueline) came back and tried to take up our glasses again but I told her that my boyfriend still had his beer and I still had my sake so she needed to wait and she walked away. It was disappointing that she didn't know that she should wait to clear the remaining glasses from the table AFTER the customer has left. Otherwise it gave the impression that she was trying to rush us out even though there was no one else in the restaurant. I hope she knows now.Overall, great place for large groups, good pricing and service is good! I hope they stay in business for a very long time!"

With my vermicelli I also received an egg roll and a shrimp sugarcane roll (maybe not called a roll but anyhow...). The beef was super flavorful and tender. Really good flavor. I did need to use some of my husbands broth because the noodles have zero sauce on them at all. I guess I was expecting something on them so they weren't just a clump of noodles. That being said, with a little broth they were really nice. I definitely prefer the spring rolls to the egg roll. The spring rolls are crunchy and flavorful but the egg roll lacked a crunchiness and felt a little mushy inside. The shrimp sugarcane thing was ok. Probably an acquired taste. The vegetables in my vermicelli bowl were super fresh and crunchy. Overall I really liked the beef vermicelli bowl...with a bit of broth. It was light and satisfying. The shrimp pho was good. The shrimp were nice and big and nicely cooked. I had hot tea, as well. It was fresh and hit the spot. Overall, I really enjoyed the meal. If you're in Rosenberg, give them a try. The lighting, decor, and overall ambiance of the restaurant were overall very warm and cozy. It seemed relatively busy and while the place was relatively full we were seated immediately and the wait staff were very friendly throughout our time there.Since this was my first time having udon, it took me a second to look through the menu because everything looked and sounded amazing. Eventually, we decided to start off with the takoyaki which came out hot and was delicious. The filling had the perfect ratio of octopus to sauce. Next, we ordered our main courses, she had the sukiyaki udon and I had the kitsune udon but I wanted some sort of meat so I got a side order of chashu. The broth in both of the soups was incredibly flavorful and rich and just what we were looking for. We finished the meal off with the banana tempura which was the perfect way to end the the meal.Even though this was my first time trying Udon Ishin made a very good first impression on me and although it seems very authentic I think the menu, staff, and atmosphere make this a very approachable spot for anyone to try. We ordered a bunch of dishes and they're Northeast Chinese cuisine. All pretty good and it's decent portion size as well. Service is very minimal as per old school Chinese spots but it's reminiscent of the old fashioned style of dining out before Chinese cuisine got hipster. The sweet and sour pork is a solid dish and the the small intestine is cooked deliciously as well. The cumin lamb is another decent dish. Note: this is ridiculous but they charge you $1 per bowl of steamed rice. This is very atypical of any Chinese restaurant and also the rice is a bit soft/too much water added. Also note: we did spot a cockroach scurrying around the dining room.Nothing Michelin starred or fancy but it'll be home cooked Chinese food that will fill you up."

I had difficulty looking for the restaurant as their restaurant sign has not been put up yet. The restaurant is located beside Coco's by the way. The restaurant is small and clean. I love the clean decor and the colors in the restaurant. I came for the pork xiao long bao so of course I had to try that. The wrapper to filling ratio for the xiao long bao was good. The wrapper was thin too, and there was a good amount of soup in each xiao long bao. However the xiao long bao lacked in flavor and depth in the soup. Ginger wasn't served with the xiao long bao which was unusual. I also had the pork and shrimp snow flake pot stickers. Same as the xiao long bao, the filling in the pot stickers lacked flavor. The pot stickers were also swimming in oil when served to me. That didn't look appetizing. I had the hot noodles with sesame paste which had no meat in it. It was ok. The color of the noodles looked very different from the poster's. I ended my meal with sweet sesame balls. They had red bean filling in them, my favorite. Considering most of the Malaysian / Singaporean establishments have made their mark in the burbs, it's no surprise they've become one of the true gems of Pearland. Their interior is small and the seating is probably meant for 20 at best. The vibe is mom-and-pop with a casual feel, which is really ideal for the neighborhood. Takeout is big here, but I have always maintained their best output is during their dine-in service.I'm pleased to report the food has not been watered down to accommodate western palates. The sambal (chili shrimp paste) has a good amount of funk and the potency is serious enough to give so many of their dishes a very distinct flavor profile. I love starting things off with their roti canai, which is airy and fluffy, with just enough crispy edges that soaks into the curry sauce so wonderfully. Beef rendang is one of the motherland's most recognizable dishes and they do it well here: tender, flavorful, and a tad greasy for my liking. Their char kway teow is comfort food in the form of noodles and the mee goreng / nasi lemak are in similar company.I am a big fan of their sambal fish fillet, which is probably their top seafood item. All of the satays are winners, but especially the beef. Their kampung crispy chicken was recommended to me by the staff, which was good but I do wish there was more meat. Their hainan chicken is classic and the salted egg calamari is definitely worth trying. Folks who are on the hunt for Singapore chili crab can find it here. While I think the prices are a tad high, I think that's the way it is with practically every place of quality at this point. Daniela D. "I've gotten into Korean food lately and one main dish that I wanted to try authentically was Jjajangmyeon, which is a black bean noodle dish. The black bean sauce consists of pork, vegetables, tons of onions and the black bean sauce itself. The noodles were chewy and delicious. Paik's Noodle was the perfect place to try that. They have a couple of other dishes that I wanted try called Jjamppong, which is a spicy soup. Jajang Bap is also another great dish."

Edelyn C. "This is simply a go-to spot in town! It's got a great atmosphere, chic decor for a Pho spot and MUCH cheaper than most of your new "hip" pho spots in central Houston.I am a big advocate of their spring rolls because they use their banh mi meat and it is just out of this world! I haven't found many spots that serve a more unique menu of spring rolls.Their pho is delicious, it's got plenty of flavor and a great feel good dish after a busy week.I highly recommend this place, the people here are so welcoming!"
