Brian T. "Came here for a romantic date night and it was everything we wanted and more! I had had this place bookmarked for a while, but hadn't yet had a reason to check it out. We had a reservation for 2 on a Saturday night - reservations recommended, as the place is small and I can see it easily filling up.Between the two of us, we generally like sharing a variety of dishes, so we ordered mix of appetizers, which only left room for one entree and one dessert. Our appetizers were the Bread Service, Fried Cauliflower, and Panipuri. The Bread Service is a homemade pretzel served alongside pimento cheese spread, truffle honey butter, and strawberry balsamic butter. Each spread was so good, but my favorite was the pimiento cheese spread - this one was the most abundant in serving size too. The Fried Cauliflower was absolutely delicious. Reminiscent of fried cauliflower served at other restaurants, this one had a good savory to it with a sweet miso dressing as a contrast. It was also topped with flakes that are similar to those you see served in takoyaki. The Panipuri was also very tasty. It's pretty similar to panipuri I've had at other Indian restaurants, so bonus points for featuring this amidst other American dishes, but also with a hearty serving of chickpeas in each little cup.Onto the entree. We shared the Teres Steak, which ended up being plenty for two of us after the appetizer "sampler" we got earlier. This steak was served in a red wine sauce with a side of mushrooms and homemade gnocchi. Solid 5/5. The steak was tender and melted in our mouths. I don't think I've ever had steak & gnocchi, but their homemade gnocchi was the perfect carb to go with the meat, and had a nice sear on the outside to give it an extra crisp. The mushrooms made for a delicious vegetable serving. And as if we still had room, we ended up ordering the Coffee n' Donut Holes for dessert, as this is apparently a Roost staple. This was the perfect way to end the night. The donut holes were just that, but way better that what you typically think of when it comes to donut holes. These were a little denser, though not too cakey, and the nutmeg flavor was in no way overpowering. These were served alongside coffee-flavored ice cream and dulce de leche, and topped with pistachios. Everything blended together so well. The coffee ice cream was not bitter at all, and complimented the donut holes perfectly. The dulce de leche added a touch of sweetness, and the pistachios gave the right amount of crunch. We were so full that while we finished the perishable ice cream, we ended up having to pack the donut holes home for future enjoyment. Our waitress for the night was fantastic (can't remember her name, dang it). She made an excellent wine recommendation, an Argentinian Malbec bottle, and gave us the best suggestions on food. We learned that the menu is constantly rotating, and the menu we had at the time in early July 2023 was going to change over the next few weeks. Our server came by often and made sure our waters and wine glasses were always full. Even when we finished our bottle, she asked if we cared for an additional glass of another wine, to which we gladly accepted. While delivering our food to the table, she explained everything in great detail and would often come back to ask for our opinion on her recommendations. I honestly didn't have anything negative to say then and now, as everything was just excellent. We will definitely be returning to Roost! I'm just drooling thinking of that coffee and donut holes. I believe their menu has changed ever since we visited (yes, this review is way overdue), so I'm totally down to return soon."

Dee D. "Had brunch here. Service was really good considering they were packed on a sunday with a 25-30 wait time on food. Everybody loves brunch. They weren't totally packed but pretty busy. The drinks were good. I had a laloma (a blood orange paloma) and a regular paloma, both were tasty. They did have flavored mimosas and flights which I didn't try. But it's offered. My friend had the expression martini and said that was also good. My friend had the chicken sandwich and said that was pretty good. I had the brisket plate and the beignets. Both were very good. I like how they have various menu items to try. I'll definitely go back to try more."

Victor H. "Had a date here a few months ago and decided to do this spot since I love golf and she loves drinks. I arrived before she did and found a timeslot near her time of arrival which is what I booked. While walk-ins are allowed, it's best to reserve ahead of time for this since they get packed according to the host stand. The bar and putting are on the second floor mainly. The bar area has some cool cocktails and a solid food choices; although we didn't get food, we saw the plates coming out and they looked tasty. As for drinks, I started with an ol' fashioned which was tasty. During our putting activity, I ordered a Collosus of New York cocktail; strong but what I needed after our round. There's also a balcony area outside on the second floor where you can get a view of the Heights neighborhood. So the putting courses consist of three different themes you can choose from. We went with the Library theme since it had this elegant European feel with the bookshelves and furniture exhibits. We found it quite fun with the course at each hole; especially since I won against her! Only issue I had was getting our drinks out properly. My Collosus of New York cocktail and my date's margarita took a long time to reach us. We ordered those around hole 2-3 and we didn't receive them until after we finished our 9-hole course. I couldn't find our server until after we finished and seemed like he had this 'aha' moment where he realized I ordered something. While we had fun aside from our round of drinks taking a while, I found the cost overall to outweigh the value you get. Drinks, while tasty, are a bit pricy and you're better off ordering them at the bar instead of during playing. Also $20 per person is excessive for only 9 holes in my opinion. I'm open to returning to try the food and experience the other courses although it's not something I'd go out of my way for."

Gino W. "While in Houston visiting, I looked for several restaurants that I thought would be good to try that wouldn't disappoint. Upper Kirby Bistro was one that didn't come close to disappointing. They scored high marks.I met with a friend in the mid morning before the brunch crowd proper showed up. I started with a watermelon mimosa that was not only refreshing, but was also just a plus for something different. For starters, we shared the biscuits with gravy. Although they were delicious, there was a faint smoky flavor to them that I detected. There wasn't enough sausage in the gravy to add any kind of smoke, so I was curious as to what it was that made the gravy smoky. My friend ordered the fried catfish and grits, and she ate it all in silence and without complaint. That was all I needed to know that the catfish and grits were delicious. I had oxtails with grits and greens. My inner Jamaican loved the oxtails and my inner Southern totally approved of the grits and flavorful greens.Service is top. I can't say enough about how pleasant our server was. One thing to note is that parking in the area may be come a bit much. Having arrived for a 10:15 AM seating, I could easily get a spot across the street. However, by the time we were leaving around noon, the crowd was coming in and parking along the street was lessening. They have valet, though, but warning just in case you decide to go late in the day when the restaurant packs out. I know I will go back when I'm in town again. It will still be for the earliest seating."

Mark F. "This is southern comfort food at its very best. We took a quick day trip from Austin to Giddings to do some business there and planned it around lunch time so we could try out a local restaurant. We were enthusiastically greeted when we walked in the door and were told that we could have a seat wherever you wanted and the young lady took our drink orders and asked us to just go ahead and go over to the buffet where we would be served. There were quite a few entree choices and side choices but the gist of it is that you get an entree with two sides and a roll or cornbread. All for under 10 bucks. I had the smothered steak with onions and it was absolutely delicious. The mashed potatoes and gravy were very good as well. The waitstaff were very attentive and kept checking up on us to see if we needed anything else. The restaurant was clean, bathrooms were clean, and all the staff that we interacted with were very friendly, helpful and seemed to actually like their job. Some past reviews might be a little too uppity because the food is true comfort food but it has a very good taste and the portions are very very decent for the amount you pay. You want to pay $30 for a plate of food that is cooked by a "chef" then go to the big city and throw your money away if you want to. The next time we're in Giddings we're definitely going to stop here again."

They really filled the quesadilla up with steak, the steak was very tender which is always a plus.My husband ordered the BLTA chicken club sandwich with a side of sweet potato wedge fries. He loved his entire meal. He's not normally a fan of sweet potato fries but he gave it a shot and was not disappointed, they were some of the best we'd ever had. My daughter got the Mascarpone French Toast. This was the star of the table! She finished the entire plate (which she never does). Me and my hubby both took a bite and we all agreed these were some of the best french toast we've ever had! The sauce was perfection and the toast was nice and fluffy. During crawfish season on Sunday's you can enjoy their $20 all you can eat so the next time around you'll want to bookmark this place and try it. It's a little dark in here but enough lighting to see who you might bump into, the people are friendly, the staff and owners are friendlier and the prices on the drinks are friendlinest. Parking shouldn't be a problem here even though it shares a parking lot with multiple businesses, least I've never had a problem on the Sundays I've visited. I did not realize that the cafe is part of an event venue. There were beautiful flower arrangements from the wedding that was held at Dukessa the night before. Our server was fantastic. Very nice and helpful with helping us make selections for our meal. He told us that some weekends it's packed for brunch, and some weekends it's not. I'm amazed that more people aren't familiar with this place.I will normally have a mimosa with brunch, but I had some drinks the night before and needed to rehydrate. I opted for the fresh squeezed mango juice. It took some time to come out, but when it did, it was very good and refreshing! Definitely worth the $6. Our server did a great job of keeping our water glasses filled. Before we ordered, our server informed us that they ran out of lamb. Luckily I'm not much of a lamb eater so it wasn't an issue. My friend ordered the green chile mac and cheese for the table to share. It was really good and wasn't too heavy. For entrees I ordered the fried chicken biscuits and gravy. I asked for the egg to be fried hard which it was (I don't like runny yolks). My friends ordered the avocado toast and the bbq salmon quinoa bowl. We all really enjoyed our food. The bbq salmon quinoa looked AMAZING! I think I may have to try it the next time I go. For dessert we had bread pudding and it was really good and not too heavy either! When I arrived I saw a balloon archway which led me to think there might be a private event. I called while in the parking lot and the worker told me to come in and have a drink. I later found out the party rsvps were minimal so they opened the bar up to the public. I think they should post online when they have a private event because I would have visited another night. The music was great. I'm a Louisiana girl and the DJ played a nice mix of old school with a lot of Louisiana rap favorites and lots of line dances. He did a great job. Let's talk ambience. This place is perfect for date night I was there with a girlfriend but this would be perfect for me to come back on a date. I think it's a nice place to have a private event if you live in the area. Ok service was good. I do think the bartender could have been friendlier. There was no bar chatter at all. This is not required but I like when bartenders talk to me lol. There were two female bartenders at the bar with a person who I think was the owner making drinks as well. There was no follow by anyone to ask if Iif the food was ok. The service could have been better. I was having such a good time that although service was lacking a little everything else made up for it. Ok let's talk drinks and food. I had a lemon drop martini. Cabernet Sauvignon and cheese pizza with spinach. The martini was good. The pizza was great. I think they need more wine options. The wine list was not my favorite and I'm a wine blogger. It's not a deal breaker just wish they had more options.Overall good place if you live in the area. The wait staff was very accommodating and the head chef (sorry, I forgot her name, but she's very nice short dark hair) came to our table and personally gave us a preview of the updated menu and the restaurant itself. We didn't know they had music on Saturday and game night on Wednesday which is a nice for family, GNO or couples date night. We ordered the salmon sliders, which was so delicious. My party had the NY Strip, Broiled Chilean Sea Bass, Roast 1/2 Chicken, and Smoked Bone-in Pork Chop as entrées. We ended our meals with Coconut Cream Pie, Chocolate Blackout Cake, and Carrot Cake for desserts. The entrées were all cooked perfectly, and seasoned well. The garlic mash was yummy. I had the sea bass which was moist and flaky. The panko crumbs at the top created the contrast in texture, which I appreciate. The sauce served together with the fish was sweet.
