A friend of mine sent me this recommendation. I loved it, and so did my friend. The food tasted even better the next day. To be clear, we finished ALL the lobster at the restaurant..lol The restaurant is in a strip mall type parking lot in Chinatown on Bellaire, but nicely decorated on the inside. Upon entrance we were quickly seated, but our waiter was a bit slow to take our order. Our food came out quickly, but individually. I didn't mind since it was just two of us and it was fresh and hot. I will def be back. FYI: They don't serve alcohol. Ginger & Scallion Lobster 8.5/10Salt & Pepper Lobster 9/10Shrimp Lettuce Wrap 9/10Chinese Brocolli 8.5/10Shrimp Fried Rice 8/10

Renovation looks nice...however quality of food is not the same. Dining area not busy like it use to be when I came to pick up for Togo twice.Togo orders since the renovations:We order mi xao (crispy egg noodles) the egg noodles was different and not crispy. The seafood sauce was kinda bland I order a eat lake beef soup (soup Bo tay ho)I'm in shock it's $14..but to be fair they did give me the large and small Togo container.

I heard great things about Hai Cang Harbor Seafood Restaurant 海港 from many foodie friends. I can't resist my curiosity and asked my friend Cathy to check out. We came here for lunch during a weekday lunchtime. The restaurant was undergoing a renovation or construction or remodeling. Not sure. There was no sign explaining or what to expect. Since the restaurant was open, we were guided to the "new" side of restaurant. The rest of dining room was boarded up. Walking toward the back by the kitchen, I could see the backstage looking wall. I asked an employee but he didn't speak English. I don't speak Vietnamese. So, I don't know what the hell was going on. Not happy. Food was good, like others said. But the Hai Cang Sauce on the lobster was salty for me. Snow Pea Leaves with Garlic was very tender. XO Sauce Clay Pot was flavorful and goes well with steamed rice. We also ordered a pot of chrysanthemum tea. It was brewed and served from a steel pot. Yea tasted good. Overall, I had a good dining experience here. I'll be back when the construction is done.

I've frequented Hai Cang and their food has always been good. The interior had always been a little musty, but they renovated and it now looks a lot more modern for sure. It's a popular place for groups and families. FoodSalt and pepper short ribs are tasty. Evenly cooked and crispy and flavorful. I like to douse everything in chili oil anyway. They'll give you rice to eat with this for free.Stir fried flat rice noodle with beef and Chinese broccoli is also tasty. Nothing wrong here and it's a good portion size. Decent amount of beef.ServiceThey checked up on us and refilled drinks. At the end they even wrap your food up into to-go containers for you. AmbianceIt's remodeled and clean and modern. They definitely put effort into turning things around. Everything is very gray now and still feels dark because of that, unfortunately. Restrooms Updated and even has lights on the mirrors that you can turn on or off. Clean, for multiple people, but not large. ParkingBig shared lot in a strip mall and you'll always have parking, but the closest spots will fill up during dinner time and weekends.

Came on a Monday and the food was amazing like usual, actually it was extra good today. Everyone enjoyed the 8 dishes we ordered. So affordable too, Im surprised this place doesnt have long lines everday given the quality & the price. Im bumping up my ratings because it's that good.

It's a solid Chinese/Vietnamese seafood restaurant. This is my go to for family meals and love to order party trays here for events. Reasonable pricing for trays and quality is consistent. They are helpful and help you carry the party trays to your car. My go to orders are the honey beef short ribs, salt and pepper calamari, house special lobster, basil leaf with razor clams, black bean stir fried clams, lotus leaf wrapped Dungeness crab with rice, garlic snow pea leaves, deep fried pork intestines, salted fish fried rice, and more. Typical Asian restaurant vibe, so kind of noisy. If you come during holidays expect to wait. They do offer private rooms.

Food is looking good and does taste good . We have ate here twice now . But there is an issue of trust and honesty. Midway through our dinner we found empty shells ---no lobster inside. This was a 3 1/2 pound lobster - the meat from the two large CLAWS gone. Other shells empty !! We were aghast. When we brought this up to waiter - he mentioned that maybe it shrunk when the deep fried. I thought deep fried to nothing ?? I asked him to discuss with kitchen to see what happened to our missing food. He never returned to discuss such . We asked him did someone in the kitchen eat our food. I know this sounds incredulous but we dumbfounded this has never happened to us. Our trust has been vanquished . For you LOBSTER lovers - BEWARE. .

Hai Cang is back after renovations and better than ever!! So happy it's open again. Been going here since I was 16 and I'm still going as a 28 year old. I will never get over how fast they bring out dishes. We ordered 7 dishes and 5 mins later the first dish came out at 1223, 1224, 1227, 1228, 1230, 1232, and 1234. That is insanely fast !! And if you're wondering how I knew what time it was that's because those are the time stamps on my photos !! And not only were they fast but the food was absolutely piping hot and delicious. You honestly can't go wrong with anything on the menu but for me the star of the show was definitely the soft shell crab fried in butter ! Special shoutout to the pipa chef special tofu too cause it was one of the first dishes I've ever tried here and I still very much enjoy it. I will say my only complaint is that they're really quick with wanting to remove plates off your table and cleaning up. I went on a Saturday for lunch with 6 people and it wasn't packed, but it wasn't empty either so again the fact they can bring your food out that quickly is just so impressive to me. Can't wait to come back.

I'd be back here for their salt and pepper tofu and pipa tofu...I'd skip on the soy sauce chow mein (super dry and really crispy, lots of burnt noodles) next time. Salt and pepper tofu 5/5Each tofu piece was a decent 1.5" cube, lightly fried but the fried exterior was crispy and left the inside soft and juicy. Not much spice from the jalapeños unless you eat them specifically. Pipa tofu 5/5 This was crispy and juicy and soft/velvety texture in the inside. Sauce was negligible, can just eat each tofu by itself. I didn't detect much seafood flavor like other pipa tofu. The other dishes that we got missed the mark for me, but I'd be willing to come back and try the clay pot dishes and whole fried dish next time. Servers were attentive and food came out quick! Hope their renovations goes well!
