GG Fish and Chicken Restaurant

Decent fish and chicken place.Had the combination fried whiting and clam strips dinner, with sides (there are a number to choose from) of potato salad and fried okra. Good food and the portion size was nearly enough for two people.

I recently moved to Durham and GG's is not far from where I live so it pains to me say that I won't be back there again after tonight. There are not a lot of options after 9pm (that aren't fast food) but every time I been to GG's it was because they were open late. I enjoyed their catfish sandwich especially and found it to be tasty in addition to being decent on my budget.What I did not enjoy was the experience I got tonight. I'm writing this review at around 10pm and they should be open until 11pm according to their listed hours but no one answered the phone when I called during the writing of this review. When I first called at 9pm there was no answer then either but I thought they must just be busy so I'll take a quick drive over to order in person. Upon arriving I see no indication of being closed so naturally I walk in. Again, their listed hours say closing isn't until 11pm. As soon as I walk in I hear a lady at the front counter yell "We're closed!". Visibly confused, I asked what time they closed, knowing full well I have been able to order food there later than 9pm as recently as last weekend. Her answer was "We close at 9:30".Looking at my watch I noted the time to be 9:23pm.I can understand not wanting to have to clean up again if the kitchen was already done cooking but I had no way of knowing about an early closing and whoever was behind the counter didn't try to hide their annoyance with my presence and any potential order I might make.That definitely left an impression and considering the ease with which it could have been avoided it's that much more infuriating.As a result of that interaction I'll have to find a new late night spot because I will not be spending another penny at GG's.

I will give them two stars only because the fried okra was really good but that is where the goodness ends. The soupy mac and cheese was not good at all. Yes I said soupy and it did not taste anything like mac and cheese. The shrimp had a sharp fishy taste; and I am not one of those people that complains about seafood tasting like seafood but the sharp taste threw me off. The flounder was not good, fried with flour (not an issue in itself, if the fish wasn't soggy), and beware of bones. Disappointing.

The chicken nuggets tasted bland and dry, the Mac and cheese was inedible mush with no actual cheese flavor, and the potato salad was just yuck

they make their mac and cheese with fake cheese!!!!! there green beans are not cooked all the way either.. ‍

This is a disgusting establishment. The woman was very rude and ignored us when we entered the store. The food itself was really disgusting. The fried fish was extremely dry and spoiled tasting. Flavorless and greasy. Dont eat here. This place needs to close.

Roaches, no hot water in sinks, nasty kitchen habits. Grade of 70.5%. I'll pass thanks!

I normally don't do reviews but I had to leave my review on this place I had got the Combination plate I got catfish and chicken wings which was 21$ and some change for that. The FISH was nasty crunchy on the outside but mushy in the inside maybe not all the way done. The FISH HAD NO SEASON FLAVOR TO IT OR NONTHING. The CHICKEN (NOW HOW DO YOU MESS UP CHICKEN WINGS) No seasoning at all. I had added 5 JUMBO shrimp to my order witch add 5$ to my order wen I finally got them they wasn't JUMBO at all the was the regular size shrimp. They was okay I ate the shrimp 1st before I tasted anything on my plate . If I had time to go back I would go back and get my money but I was on lunch break. PLEASE DONT GO HERE MY 1st and LAST TIME EATING FROM HERE . The onion rings was good tho I couldn't even eat them because the food pissed me off. Smh

I have to say I was excited to find a seafood place. However, I was disappointed. The fish is not seasoned correctly. Meaning the fry it plain and throw some seasoning on it afterwards. not good. The green beans are just salted. The Gravy for the rice had decent flavor, however they do not give enough of it to compensate for the dry rice. The corn has not butter or seasoning. I didn't eat the macaroni, but my coworker states it was not good. The only thing that was ok was the Jumbo fried shrimp. They were not jumbo but at least they were seasoned. It's a no for me.

Not sure what everyone in these reviews expected from a seafood place in a strip mall in Durham. The service was polite, food was cooked to order and it was hot and fresh. Everything tasted great and was well seasoned.
