I have had this on my bucket-list for a while and a perfect opportunity opened up to come visit. It seems like mid-afternoon on a Saturday is a great time to visit because while there were plenty of people in the restaurant, I was also sat quickly. Our waitress was great and really attentive. We ordered soft drinks and biscuits with honey butter for an appetizer. The biscuits are dense and yummy. The honey butter is a PERFECT addition to the biscuit. I saw that there was a shrimp and grits special, so I ordered it and this turned out to be the perfect decision for myself. The presentation was beautiful. Probably the best presentation I've seen of shrimp and grits. The grits were creamy and textured and full of flavor. When you mixed in the sauces, it really set it off. I had NO room for dessert, which is a shame because that just means I need to come back and try it for a more robust review lol One thing I really appreciated about this business was that it's "no-frills". It has a great ambiance, but nothing too flashy. They sell drinks, but (I don't think) liquor (just wine/mimosa/sangria). It's located on a corner lot with a just big enough parking lot. It feels cozy and like a place you can take a partner or a parent. The people are friendly and this feels like a place you can easily become a regular. Highly recommend. I didn't think I'd like this place as much as I did. In my opinion, a really underrated spot. Don't walk, run.

Upon first pulling up on a Saturday near noon, we were thinking about they would be packed. However we were only the second table. The restaurant is on the edge of a not so great area but the foods worth returning for. We were welcomed in upon entering. Promptly offered services and introduced to items by the waitress along with manager. Our waters were constantly filled. The biscuits had the perfect density. My husband devoured the honey butter. Next time I want to try one of their homemade jams. My entree was the fried chicken. It was so extra steaming that I couldn't eat it for awhile. The crispy outsides made me want to keep eating the skin which I typically don't do. The red beans were decent but I'd rather the bean be a bit more mashed or a tender. The brussel sprouts had a good crisp on some. The feel was a cute diner ish feel. Plenty of seating. I imagine while busy it would be fairly loud. Overall though it was decent service and food. We are curious to come back for a true brunch or dinner after seeing those menus.

I last was in Houston in October! We ate lunch here then and we repeated yesterday! I have just scanned my previous review. I have nothing but superlatives to add.The service was exceptional. The atmosphere was comfortable and cozy. The food is scrumptious. Go here, go hungry, leave full and happy. Remember to tip your server generously.

We quite liked our first visit here. The biscuits are stellar make sure to get the honey butter and bacon jam with them, they are incredible. The fried chicken was really well done. Super crunchy and delicious seasoning/dusting on the outside. Moist and hot. Great portion size. I was able to get 4 pieces and a side for $22 not bad at all. The red beans and rice and fries were the standouts imo. The creamed corn was pretty good. The mac and cheese while it had decent flavor it was seized/broken. Maybe look elsewhere for the sides. The fried shrimp were on okay imo not the biggest fan. The bread pudding was a bit dense, it was good but I'd probably try something else next time. *****side note if anyone that runs the business reads the reviews please consider making the booths bigger. We sat at the booth in the middle of the restaurant to the right near the bathroom and it was unbearably small. The person sitting across from me at the table and I literally kicked each other all night and had a pole right between us as well. With both of our legs fully backed up to the booth our feet completely over lapped. Additionally there was quite literally 3 inches clearance from the table to stomach. It made it extremely uncomfortable. Hopefully not all tables are like that. Pic posted below. It was so comically tight we took a picture.

Heard great things about this place and it did not dissapoint. We came around 1:15p on a Wednesday and it was not busy. Hostess and wait staff were attentive. We had Lori and she was super patient with my toddler. We started with the biscuits with strawberry and bacon jam. The bacon jam was interesting I tasted a hint of Vietnamese flavors maybe? Next we got the fried chicken and catfish with mac and cheese, Brussels and cole slaw. I did not love the Brussels they were tasteless and the mac n cheese was meh. The Cole slaw was fresh with interesting flavors. Would love to try the red beans and rice next time.

Chef Greg Gatlin is a witch doctor. The food at Gatlin's Fins and Feathers is uniformly savory and tasty across the board. He has done something even more difficult: made different fried foods taste unique from one another while each being juicy and seasoned. The fried catfish is perfectly fried in a cornmeal that isn't wet or too crisp. It's then dusted with a spicy powder that compliments its texture without overpowering the taste. The wings were amazing. My wife took a bite and said they're the gold standard for wings in Houston. They're brined overnight then coated with their own mixture that highlights the chicken's flavor rather than hiding it. The sides were amazing. The red beans and rice had a strong bay leaf presence that melded with the other flavors and didn't overpower the overall flavor. They were meaty and thick. Maybe the best I've ever had. The creamed corn is stupid good. And if you don't get the biscuits you mis-used that $7 somewhere else. The dollop of jam is almost worth the cost. Oh. And the local beer is $5. Seriously.

Had a wonderful experience at this place. Landed in Houston and was hungry. Found this place through an online list of great food in Houston. Dropped my bags off at the hotel and headed over for an early dinner. Our waitress I think was Laurie and she was wonderful. Ordered the H-town hot sandwich with fries, brussel sprouts, mac & cheese, and some biscuits. We only asked for honey butter with the biscuits but our waitress also brought us samples of bacon jam and strawberry jam to try with the biscuits. You really can't go wrong with either 3 choices but our favorite was the honey butter. The chicken sandwich and sides were great. The sandwich does have a bit of it kick to it. Overall, really enjoyed the food and experience here.

This place has been on my list for a minute. We didn't know they closed early on Sundays at 330 and we showed up at 3. They still greeted us with a big smile. Our forgot our waitress name but she was great. She gave good recommendations. We got the rolls... they were good but we didn't like the bacon jam or the strawberry jelly...or the fact that they charge 1.50 for it. I'll just take free butter..lol! We ate the fried fish, fried wings, grilled fish, Brussels, greens. Greens were okay, Brussels were not sweet enough... but the fish and wings were on point. Seasoned to the core. I would definitely visit again.

I went to Gatlin's to celebrate a friend's birthday. The staff was very kind and attentive to our group of 11.Chargrilled oysters - amazing! The parmesan and butter on top really highlighted the oyster.Wing and fish combo - the wings and fish had the perfect crunch and seasoning. The fries were soooo good.

Gatlin's Fins & Feathers: A Southern Comfort Food GemI recently dined at Gatlin's Fins & Feathers in Garden Oaks, and it was a delightful experience. This cozy spot, a sister restaurant to Gatlin's BBQ, serves up seafood and Southern comfort food that will transport you back to your auntie's kitchen.Highlights:Not Your Momma's Biscuits: These fluffy buttermilk biscuits were served piping hot and paired perfectly with seasonal jam. I recommend asking for a side of bacon jam--it's a game-changer!Sweet 'n Spicy Miso Shrimp: The miso shrimp was a flavor explosion. Crispy, briny, and just the right amount of heat--definitely a winner.Fried Catfish and Shrimp Combo: The catfish and jumbo shrimp were coated in cornmeal and deep-fried to perfection. Each bite was packed with Creole seasoning, and while the catfish was good, a touch more cornmealy batter would have been ideal.Impeccable Service: The attentive staff made the dining experience even better. The manager personally checked on me, adding a special touch to the meal.Charming Retro Vibes: The classic diner booths, funky tiled floors, and Motown hits playing in the background create a warm and inviting atmosphere.Whether you're dining with friends, family, or craving a mean bowl of gumbo, Gatlin's Fins & Feathers is the place to be. The food, service, and retro vibes make it a must-visit spot in Houston.
