I recently visited Foster's Market with some friends for lunch on a Sunday. The gravel parking lot was brimming with cars, and after a short wait for a space to open up, we finally made our way inside. Despite the initial parking hassle, the experience inside was well worth the effort. The interior was lively, yet inviting, with a warm, rustic charm that perfectly complemented its menu. The assortment of homemade sandwiches, soups, bakery items, and daily specials was impressive, reflecting the establishment's commitment to quality and freshness. The system here is straightforward: you pay your tab at the end, allowing you to settle up for your meal and any market purchases all at once.I opted for the Grilled Bistro Chicken Sandwich, and it was a standout. The sandwich was generously portioned--easily enough for two meals. The juicy chicken breast, roasted red peppers, and pesto were all nestled between slices of hearty sourdough bread, creating a symphony of flavors that were both satisfying and memorable. While I could potentially recreate this sandwich at home, the expertly balanced ingredients and the café's unique touch made it a delight to savor. My friends chose the Thai Chicken Wrap and the Chicken & Waffles. Both dishes were met with equally positive feedback. The wrap was flavorful, with a perfect blend of spices and fresh ingredients, while the chicken & waffles offered a delightful twist on a classic comfort food combination.Though the café was crowded, it was clear why: the food was exceptional, and the atmosphere, bustling yet cozy, added to the overall experience. Despite the initial parking challenge, the quality of food and service made it a worthwhile destination for any food lover--Foster's Market is a must-visit!

Lovelovelove this place for breakfast, lunch. And brunch!!!Their items are no nonsense super fresh homemade classics. I love their homemade chorizo. My go to is their grits bowl for brekkie or their salad plates for lunch. Their salads are seasonal. Love that. Their biscuits are big and fluffy. I know they are known for their desserts but we are always too full to order one. But they do look sinfully delicious. Their coffee and coffee drinks are outstanding. I love sitting outside as it can get noisy inside with the amount of traffic they get. We used to go every weekend when we lived in Durham. Miss it so much. I make my husband make the haul from wake forest once every six weeks to satisfy my craving. And I definitely take out of town guests that come to visit. It's a NC institution.

Nice cozy place that serves breakfast and lunch. We were in Durham area and looking for a nice local place to support. Foster's Market definitely matched what we were looking to find. We both ordered sandwiches that were fantastic. Nice size and well made. I ordered the Jammin Turkey Breast Sandwich (very yummy) with just the right amount of spice from the pepper jelly. My wife ordered the Roasted Turkey Breast sandwich, which she really enjoyed. Very nice place to visit with friendly people and plenty of seating both indoor and outdoor. If in the area you need to visit.

Cozy market where you order at a counter, pay, and then sit down and eat, a lot of self service which is fun. I got the seasonal omelette which was really tasty and had nice Fall flavors like butternut squash and the herb aioli was a nice touch on top. The potatoes were not great so definitely recommend swapping them for the biscuit. Affogato was definitely something, was expecting a little less icecream and more espresso? Would definitely come back again and try something else!

Three stars solely based on the ordering process. It was a busy lunch time. I ordered our sandwiches in the center of the store where the chalkboard menus are. I had no idea there were deli type salads at another counter. Had no idea how to pay --- finally asked someone and was directed to the "cashier".The cakes looked delicious. There are baskets full of individual bags of chips. For $15 I would have thought this was included. NOPE -- chips are extra.I had the special sandwich of the week called The Godfather. It was delicious and huge enough to share. The ordering process could be greatly improved. They would maybe even get more sales if you could get everything AND pay in ONE location. I do want to come back for a slice of cake sometime. Or a scone or maybe even breakfast. Lunchtime was just too crowded.

Went here for brunch with some friends and enjoyed it a lot. I ordered the day's special - an omelette with caramelized onions, butternut squash, kale, and goat cheese with a cheddar biscuit on the side. The biscuit was definitely the highlight! The iced pumpkin spice latte was also very good and not overly sweet. Service was fast and the outdoor seating area is nice, even in rainy weather.

I'd go back! I liked the food a lot. I got a breakfast plate, with potatoes, avocado, biscuit, and eggs. The avocado was really fresh and ripe. And I really liked the biscuit. The potatoes were good too, but I would love the option to get sweet potatoes (I saw other people eating what I thought looked like sweet potatoes and I couldn't figure out what they ordered). One criticism I have is that I'd love to get to choose my type of eggs! They only offer scrambled for the breakfast plate. Service was good and ambiance was good! Be ready to order at the counter and get your own water. The parking lot is pretty big too!

Warm, cozy place to enjoy breakfast/brunch on your own or with friends! There is plenty of character and personality sprinkled throughout with lots of indoor or outdoor seating. The food was delicious and iced latte hit the spot. Perfect place to enjoy the beautiful fall weather. There is gravel lot parking near the restaurant as well as street parking for overflow. You order and find a seat, then an employee will bring your food to you. You pay as you walk out after you're done eating.

So Fosters Market is known as a staple and a place you hear get recommended when referring places you should go for Durham and I can definitely see why. They have sooo much space indoor and outdoor for seating as well as a little food/ candy market on the inside where you can also purchase. Even though chaotic the staff seemed really nice and didn't rush you when you're up ordering. (Which I'm not going to lie was pretty stressful as I didn't know how it worked- it's not a serving place- you order at the register, they write you a food ticket, when the food is ready they'll go out yelling the name you gave when ordering. When finished, you take your dishes to the dirty dishes bin and pay at a register up front) Now the reason for being 3stars- 1) the food and coffee are pretty lackluster. There was no flavor or seasoning in my farm plate. The only thing that was worth eating was the lox bagel. Everything else was meh. My boyfriend said his avocado toast + egg was bland and seasoning wasn't readily available (i.e. hot sauce or even salt and pepper)2) I definitely agree with previous reviews on suggesting a number that you can take and the food runners can just look for that when delivering the food instead of yelling out the persons name. When we were there a "Nicole" was nowhere to be found and you just hear the poor worker yelling for her and that her pancakes were ready. It kind of killed the mood just constantly hearing that. This can be solved and improved. I'll give it another chance and try their pastries next time but I had high hopes for this place and I'm sad to write this cause I know it's a local favorite
