The atmosphere was inviting, host staff and bartender were very friendly and helpful, and the cocktails and food were fantastic. Might be more like 4.5 stars because the wait time (given that I was the first/only customer for a while), but honestly, the experience was good enough that the wait was pleasant. Dining in the vibrant heart of downtown Raleigh was a delightful adventure, albeit with a touch of anticipation. After a brief wait of about 45 minutes, as communicated by the attentive hostess, I decided to bypass the crowded dining area in favor of the cozy bar. The atmosphere was alive with chatter, laughter, and the occasional clink of glasses--perfect for immersing myself in the local scene. As I settled onto a comfortable barstool, I found myself caught in momentary patience as the bartender, busy juggling orders, took his time to approach me. Finally, our eyes met, and with a friendly nod, I placed my order for the crab cheese fries--a choice inspired by my mild hunger and the promise of indulgence.I was pleasantly surprised when the piping hot dish arrived in what felt like the perfect timeframe, balancing eagerness with culinary precision. The vibrant plating teased my palate immediately. Upon tasting, I discovered the dish's charm: while the crab meat was modest in quantity, each bite unleashed the flavor of the sea, perfectly complemented by the tangy, succulent sauce that danced across my taste buds. The crispness of the fries added a delightful layer of texture, grounding the dish and making each forkful satisfying.Overall, the crab cheese fries turned out to be a pleasant surprise--comfort food with a touch of flair. It was indeed a nice-sized portion that charmed me enough to forget any notion of being merely "not hungry." Instead, I kicked back and relished my flavorful journey, appreciating how a simple bar snack could elevate my evening in downtown Raleigh into an enjoyable culinary experience.

I had high hopes for Flavor Hills, but unfortunately, the experience fell short. We had a reservation for 6:45 PM, and while the food had its moments, it was largely underwhelming. The place is a vibe. Good 90s-2000 R&B/Hip hop music. The grits were clumpy, which detracted from the meal, although the catfish was delicious. The rattlesnake pasta was decent but definitely needed more sauce, despite my request for extra. My husband ordered the hot honey chicken sandwich and felt it didn't live up to his expectations--he's had better elsewhere. The appetizers were a highlight, but the cornbread was a definite miss for me. The biggest disappointment was the wait time for our entrees. We paid for two hours of parking, and by the time our food arrived, we had only 30 minutes left. To make matters worse, out of our party of four, three entrees came out together, leaving my husband waiting an additional 10 minutes for his meal. The manager came to our table to acknowledge the wait time for my husband's meal.Overall, I expected a great dining experience but ended up with a mediocre one. Were our meals worth the price? Sadly, I have to say "No." I won't be rushing back.

We made a lunch reservation for a group of us to celebrate my coworkers birthday and were pleased with the quality of food and service. This was my first time at Flavor Hills, I heard mixed reviews about it but I always try to experience places myself despite what others may have experienced. I love that it's a black-owned business, I always try to support when I have the opportunity. Overall the service was great, the food was seasoned and delicious. I had the Catfish & Grits, the catfish was perfectly fried and grits were very flavorful. The place is very uniquely decorated with colorful painting of Black artists around the restaurant. Theres a designated area at the front of the restaurant to take photos which I love. It seems like it would be a great place for groups of friends or brunch in the weekend.

The place came recommended and didn't disappoint. As soon as you walk in, the smell of greens hit you in the face. We made a reservation and sat immediately. There was music playing and an artist paint a very nove portrait as you walked through the restaurant. The art kn the wall and decor fit the place so well and I would have loved to take some art home.We ordered the shrimp app and it was soo good. Wished we had some more sauce on them. The shrimp were a great size and fried to perfection. Great option to share. All options were amazing on the menu but we couldn't pass up on the catfish and grits. The catfish was fried so well. It was crispy, jucey and so flavorful. The grits were seasoned and cheesy. It also had the greens which I really wanted to try and they did not disappoint! I loved the vinegar notes in it. Service was great and the server was very nice. Menus available on you phone which was easy. Great place for dinner or brunch.

I had seen reviews (both good and bad) about this place recently, and was able to try them for myself this past Wednesday. I was solo, but didn't know how busy they might and didn't wanna end up stuck hating from the outside the club, so I made a reservation. Got there around 3:45pm. I parked on the street about a block away, no issues. I would definitely take the advice of others and plan to come earlier than your reservation if going during their more busier hours (brunch), to give time to find a park.Upon walking in, I noticed that they were a lot bigger inside than they appeared to be outside. Wasn't too busy, a few people dining. I opted to have a seat at the bar. I sat there for quite a few minutes before one of the employees that was seated at a table (on break) got the attention of the person tending to the bar. He apologized for not noticing me and promptly greeted me and explained to to get to the menu and to let him know once I was ready to order.I ordered the "From the South" (chicken wings, collard greens, and mac&cheese - $26). You could substitute the greens for yams. Despite hearing that the yams were usually requested more than the greens, I decided to try them out. They did have a sweetness to them, which I'm not at all used to, but I wasn't mad at it! I found them kinda tasty, sweet but also had a mild heat kick. The mac&cheese was also good. The wings were fried very crispy, and seasoned well. The meal was very aesthetically plated. My side of hot sauce was even put in a cute mini mason jar. This was the first time in a LONGGGG time I had food from a restaurant that tasted like a home-cooked meal. S/O to them in that kitchen!! Also BIGGG S/O to my new bestiesss Christón and Tamyka!! Christón was my waiter/bartender and answered all my questions about the menu and gave me suggestions about to try. He made me a tasty "Oh So Pretty" and gave a lil razzle dazzle as he prepared the drink infront of me. My bestie Tamyka made me a Casamigos Lemon Drop that makes all the other the lemon drops I've had seem like juicy juice. She did her BIGGG one! I will DEFINITELY be back soon to try some of the other good looking items on the menu. That catfish&grits calling me. See yall soon bestiesss!!!P.S. it's worth noting that the ladies restroom was one of the CLEANEST I've ever seen in an establishment. It even smelled good! I was so impressed I wanted to take a picture.

I made a 4:15 reservation for 2. Upon entry I thought the decor and wall art was very nice. I enjoyed the r&b and hip-hop playlist inside. There were some pleasantries when I arrived at 4:20 a few minutes late but no clear direction when they learned my other party hadn't arrived yet. I had to inform the front host station I would wait at the bar. Very standoffish behaviors towards customers as the first individuals to interact with me before being seated. This was odd. Later on, I received a text that my reservation was canceled. I sat down at the bar. Will immediately acknowledged me as well as other servers nearby. My cocktails were the highlight here.Gin mule was refreshing. Great balance. French 75 was perfection! Will is a great bartender who checked in often. I tried the Cavier of the South. Pimento cheese is an all-time favorite, so it was a hit for me. The sweet chili buffalo sauce added a different but really good flavor to this dish. For my entree, I had the Bayou Bay Catfish with rice and spinach. This was not as expected. The flavors were a more overly seasoned and more salty and less buttery-spicy flavor that is expected for blackened. I typically don't need lemon with my fish, but perhaps adding a lemon to this dish would help neutralize the saltiness. Overall, not much to write home about here when it comes to this dinner (food) for me. I appreciate the chef coming out and being receptive to the feedback I provided on the taste of my food. I also appreciate the level of service from Will. The chef's receptiveness and Will's bartending expertise took this to a 4-star experience. I look forward to trying Brunch.

The food is pretty. However, waiting close to a hour and a half for your meal, with no refills on drinks, no napkins, & no updates from server is unacceptable. When the food finally arrived 3 out of 5 plates were cold. And one was completely wrong. After speaker to a manager, who blamed the cooks, our server comes back to the table with a poor attitude. Responding with "whatever", pressing no tip on his own, and walking away before we answered whether or not we wanted a receipt.I try not to leave poor reviews. However, this was my second time dining there with poor service and cold food.Pictured is the "basket" of cornbread I ordered.

My friend & I decided to go on a Friday morning the day of a storm about 2 weeks ago. Luckily it was empty as we tried going a few months ago & there was an almost 2 hour wait. I have to say the vibes are immaculate here between the art on the walls & the music. The staff were friendly & attentive. Our waiter was knowledgeable & provided some suggestions. Probably the BEST collard greens I've had, I couldn't stop eating it. The waffle was a bit dry but the chicken was good. I'll be going back to try other items.
