Doris' Kitchen

Tried Doris' Kitchen while visiting Houston. A group of friends and I went here for lunch and it was delicious. We had a variety of things from oxtails, blackened salmon, cheeseburger, & shrimp and all of it was amazing. Their yams and mac HIT and my oxtails were cooked to perfection. My sister had the greens which she said weren't the best and lacked some seasoning. Our meals came with cornbread muffins which were sweet & buttery. If you're in Houston I would recommend this spot 8/10.

Being a native Houstonian and growing up in a soul food eating family, finding a place like Doris' Kitchen was exactly what I needed! The food is excellent and not over salted in addition the prices are great. The oxtails were my favorite and I can't wait to return to the tender juicy flavorful food! Go try it! Thank me later

You want soulfood for a reasonable price? This is the place to go. Staff was really friendly and helpful. Wasn't a wait and food was delicious. Will come back next time I'm in town.

Did not dissapoint!!! The pork chop was perfectly cooked and basically fell off the bone. Easy to cut and chew! The yams and cabbage were delicious! Will definitely be ordering from here again

THE BEST! We're down visiting from Dallas for our anniversary and we're determined to shop Black Owned. This place had great service. We were greeted with a hearty "hello" and a welcoming smile. I loved that all the staff was wearing masks and gloves and they had hand sanitizer for customers by the door. My husband and I both ordered catfish and shrimp. It came out quickly and was served hot. My husband dug into his so fast that he burned his mouth ‍. The portions are so big that all I could eat was the shrimp and fries before I was full. I'm saving my catfish for later. Doris' Kitchen will forever be on my must eat list for H-town!

Oxtails didn't have no seasoning. Beans were out of a can and the Macaroni and cheese was made with nacho sauce

This was my first time here as it was recommended to me by a friend and I must say this spot has amazing food! Super clean, service was absolutely great. The oxtails and cabbage were my absolute favorites. If you're looking for a good meal, this is the place to go!

I found Dori's kitchen on Yelp. I drove to the other side of town to try it out. Dori was so nice. She even was going to give us a discount just so that it wasn't expensive and it was only like $40 between 2 people. I was like giiirl... I spend money in all these "other" establishments. I better not come up in here acting like I should get a discount here. We need to normalize not complaining about the prices when dealing with our own kind when it's actually worth it.This food was bussin'. It gave everything it was supposed to give. Every bite felt like it was made with love. I love places where you get a lot of food for the money and this was definitely one of those places. I will ride to Sunny Side any day to eat here.

NOPE NOPE NOPE! So I read the reviews and thought I'd give Ms. Doris a chance. Nope!I ordered the small oxtails for 24.00 I don't mind paying for good oxtails, but not only were these not good they were less than a inch thick.... I measured. The greens were not seasoned. I'm not sure what was going on with the black eyed peas??? The very best part of my Sunday meal was the small sweet fresh cornbread muffin. I'm sorry Ms Doris. It wasn't good. I may circle back after I try all the other oxtail establishments. Maybe it was just a bad day.

This is my second time going to this place within a month lol this restaurant is very delicious. I just can't get enough of ox tails. I also ordered them the last time I went. I also ordered a Carolyn burger which was very delicious, they just forgot to put my bbq sauce on it but the burger and fries were still good. I really enjoy eating at this restaurant. Also, I'm a big fan of black owned businesses so there's another plus. The staff I mean all of the staff were so nice and welcoming. The only negative experience that I can think of that I had was I ordered a large size ox tails plate b/c I love ox tails so much, but the large looked like the same amount that I got last time which was a size small. But other than that, everything was very delicious, I will be returning. As a matter of fact once I get done writing this review, I'm going to be ordering again. Lol
