TRUTH BE TOLD REVIEW June 10, 2024TODAY my wife and I had breakfast at the Truth Be Told (TBT) restaurant on the University of Chicago Campus. I don't have enough good things to say about the food - service - and atmosphere. Our server David was so engaging and polite. He took our orders accurately and we had very pleasant conversations with him. He has a very pleasant personality. I hope if you go there he will be your waiter. They serve these small potatoes with breakfast and they are delicious even the skins. All told this is a 5* restaurant we highly recommend.RCA

Yikes. The evening bartender is only good for beer, wine , & soda. Mixed drinks are a stretch it seems--straight up drink was served over ice.Found out the hard way at 946 pm that the kitchen closes at 945..Soooooo, no food for us.

This is a great local Bristish inspired local tavern. The hubby and I ventured in for happy hour drinks. Unfortunately, they do not have any happy hour specials. Their social media and website need to be updated to reflect this change. We ordered a bunch of appetizers, olive dishes, riccata, cheese curds, and devil eggs. The devils eggs had an odd taste. We think the taste had something to do with the olivie oil. The cheese curds were my favorite with the added bed of marinara sauce. I will definitely be back to try brunch since happy hour isn't happy anymore.

The food was delicious and ambiance was great. I came here for a work dinner on a week day. The service was attentive, with great appetizers and food, and a nice environment. I got the pork belly dish and it was amazing with delicious lentils and mashed potatoes. This restaurant is nestled in the UChicago campus with lots of greenery and space around, and easy super and ample parking.

At first I was irritated because the servers were talking to themselves and not paying attention to the fact that I wanted to order. Let me tell you, once those scones came out, they could've talked 30 more minutes if I had known how good they were going to be. I would have gotten myself together and let them converse. I would've waited! The accompanying "sides" the raspberry jam, the orange, marmalade jelly, and the lemon curd were the perfect toppings. The weather was down a bit today but the atmosphere inside the restaurant more than made up for it. The servers were talkative and didn't pay attention initially. WHO CARES. My hidden KAREN CAME OUT. The food put her away. GOOD FLAVOR MATTERS MORE THAN MY HANGRY IRRITATION FOR WAITING! I will be coming back here soon and very soon with my husband. By the way, someone ordered scones and I guess they decided they didn't want them. No worries. I'll take them off your hands. My husband is off on Wednesdays. Guess who will be having a fresh scone breakfast on Wednesday? Truth be told was the truth. My server was attentive. She was gentle voiced and kind and took great care of me. The man who delivered the water was gentle, kind and took great care of all of us. Truth be told was a delight and I can't wait to come again. Oh I forgot. I also had the grapefruit. IT WAS DECADENT. Yummy, yummy, and more yummy. It was sweet, but had that great tart bitterness of grapefruit they put THE Brûlée was perfect, and added another texture, and umami. Oh my goodness brilliant delicious, smart yummy again and more yummy. I also had the prawns and the horseradish mayo, and what appeared to be handmade. Cocktail sauce. It was just the right spice. My time here was delightful. I cannot wait to come back again with my husband.

We stumbled upon this place as my sister searched brunch spots near Hyde Park. So glad we came. It's on UChicago's campus in the new hotel. There was no wait to be seated, but it did take a half hour for us to get our food. We had the Scotch pancakes, eggs Benedict and the Study Breakfast. Eggs perfectly cooked and seasoned Bacon was thick and crispy Fingerling potatoes were well seasoned and friedHollandaise on Benedict was delicious! The portions were nice-sized and the menu had fair prices. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for a nice brunch. The restaurant is also bright and well-decorated, with a rustic feel.

Food was solid. Service was good (though it was clear our server was still in-training). Design is beautiful. I think it's "overselling it" to call it a British pub b/c it's much more upscale than most British pubs. That said, I'd highly recommend it to anyone in the neighborhood.

Truth Be Told is such a hidden gem on University of Chicago's campus. It's a really cute up-scale Irish Pub. I went for dinner and had a great experience. As a starter we had the House-Made Ricotta which was so smooth and creamy. It was served this house made sourdough bread which was fantastic. I would honestly go back just for the ricotta. For my entree I had the Tandoori Chicken which was served with this delicious coconut rice. The portion size was huge. It was defiantly enough to share. The chicken was perfectly seasoned. My husband got the Slow Roasted Pork Belly that he said was really tender and flavorful. Again the portion was huge.They also have a good beer list and it was nice to get to try a few British beers that I hadn't seen before. I can't wait to go back for brunch.

Overall nicely executed with only one exception. Root veggie soup was rich and delicious as was the fish fry and steak. Cheese curds were decent. Chicken pot pie was terrible. Too sweet and mustardy, tasting instead like McDonald's chicken nugget honey mustard sauce with shreds of chicken and tough inedible mushrooms. The delicious soup is served in the same size bowl and just as rich but is nearly half the price. Do that instead and let them go back to the drawing board on the pot pie.
