I just discovered a bakery item from Panaderia Del Refugio in a local market. It's a pound cake with nuts. It's not as dense as some pound cakes and came in a ring rather than a loaf. The flavor was tinged with burnt sugar (good kind) touch that made me fall in love. Excuse the photo of the half-eaten pound cake. Next time I'll take a photo before I enjoy the sweet goodness with friends.

I was enormously impressed by this bakery and I'm so glad that I stumbled upon it! I got two out of my three pastries right out of the oven. One was stuffed with cheese/cream cheese mixture and the other was this hot and toasted buttery stick. The last was a cherry danish sort of thing. All were really great! I highly advise getting something right out of the oven when you go.Also, the best part is it's 50 cents each.

OK, this is one of those places where you don't go by the looks of it. They must be doing quite a bit of wholesale business, because someone was loading up a truck with bread and stuff just outside. Although it doesn't look like much if you step in, the Tres Leches cake we had from here was great. I really loved it. Got it for someone's birthday and they also loved it. Maybe they can do some additional flavors, like at one restaurant we had this mango tres leches, which was to-die-for. Something like that.... idk. But definitely great mom & pop for some cake.

I'm not a Mexican bakery aficionado so perspective is off for me here. I liked how you just grab a tray and tongs and go to town. The prices were crazy low as well. I got a couple cookies and some half donut have bread thing. Reminded me of Polish desserts in texture being crunchy yet kind of doughy, but not very sweet. From the view better than Polish dessert but not my thing as I have a big sweet tooth.

I live in the neighborhood and cannot pass by this place without stopping in for some pan. It's a tiny, blink-and-you'll-miss-it, kind of dark-looking place. Their selection is not quite as expansive as some of the other options on 18th, but they do bake some good bread. I've had some of their muffins, bolillos and other sweets and everything has been pretty tasty. Definitely stop by for some cheap baked goods!

Small panaderia in Pilsen. Things are fresh and flavorful. Could have more savory options tho.

During covid, you grab a bag and tongs to select your bread. We asked what the empanadas were filled with and received a "piña" response with just a little attitude. Not sure why as the bakery was empty. We were there for a cheese pastry and empanadas de camote. We'll be back as we've always enjoyed Del Refugio's bread, but can do without the snippiness.

Passed by and could smell the bread so decided to walk in. I saw racks and racks of conchas so asked a lady working if I could have one right off the racks. She said yes!Best part was that it was only $0.60 :)
