A few things were excellent: collard greens, peach cobbler and the "southern smoothered" gravy. I'll come again to try the yams as a side. And they only provide one small cornbread muffin, but it's very tastey. The pork chop was prepared well, but it's hard to remove gristly edges when it's all buried under the gravy. It could have been a better cut of meat, and that would have helped. There are certainly nicer porkchops available for purchase at Costco (and even HEB) if they want to upgrade the quality of ingredients. There are limited beverage options. They were out of coffee so I had unsweet tea, which was nice. The staff seemed to have something unusual going on. Maybe someone hadn't shown up for their shift or maybe they were training someone. But from greeting to seating to taking my order to checkout, it was just awkward. I don't expect it's normally that way. Lunch special was $12.99. Other meals were in the $20+ range. White meat chicken isn't available on the lunch menu, only dark. But even on the regular menu, it's dark meat only unless you pay a $4.95 upgrade. So basically, this creates a large (2X) price between different variations on a fried chicken meal, which fine, I guess, but for me, it's a strange pricing strategy that I haven't seen anywhere else. But mostly, to me, it feels like I'm eating in a city rec center with a staff of community volunteers. Friendly enough, and tasty enough, but not quite restauranty enough. I haven't given up on it, but I'm not quite sold yet. Wishing them well. I like having a soul food restaurant in town.

Y'all need to have Ham Bonz at the top of your list. It is AMAZING!We went for an early Sunday supper and were pleasantly surprised to find that it was gospel Sunday! Great live pianist/vocalist singing so well even an atheist would tap their toes. I got the fried chicken with 3 sides - greens, yams, and mac n cheese. Honestly choosing just 3 was one of the hardest decisions of my entire life (so I'll be going back again very soon). I did steal some mashed potatoes from my husband, which are only available on Sunday and they are worth waiting all week for. But the star is THE FRIED CHICKEN I don't know what kind of magical process goes into creating a crispy thin skin with so much integrity...it is phenomenal. No skin sliding off, perfectly cooked, and no heating lamps here.Do yourself a favor and eat here ASAP. Waitstaff is attentive and super nice - we had a lovely meal!

Pork chop: 4Fried Chicken: 3Greens: 2Mac n Cheese: 2Cornbread: 2Value (one pork chop, two pieces of chicken, two sides + cornbread =$31): 1Scale: 1 = poor -- 5 = outstanding This is a generous three for me. Besides pork chop, there's nothing I'd want to eat again.

The people working there (I believe it's the owners) are so nice. The food on the other hand is good but definitely not worth the price point. The restaurant had no ambiance. I ordered the wing plate and it was ok. Not great but not bad. Everyone in my party felt the same way. It's okay.

This is great a soul food restaurant! The smothered pork chops are LARGE and very tasty! The Mac and cheese is definitely homemade and baked (the best way!), the green beans are as good as my grandma used to make. If you order sweet tea, they mean sweet! Friendly folks running the place, I will definitely be back!

Highly recommend the fried chicken. The pork chops have a bit of gristle, but I've only tried them twice. The sides are delicious. The mac n cheese is especially yummy, and the cornbread alone is reason enough to return. Hopefully they'll add to their menu in time; however, they offer special dishes on Sundays. It is a friendly, family-run restaurant and the wait staff couldn't be nicer. Very happy to see a restaurant filling the space at the front of Tahitian Village and so we wish them much success.

I love the friendly service, and the food is always fresh and delicious. This is a hidden gem in Bastrop. They've only been open since last year. So far the meatloaf is one of my favorites.

Friendly staff food sucks. Collards were the worst I've ever eaten. No flavor with Mac and cheese. Pork chops were way over cooked. Then the cost, damn.

Extremely good fried pork chop and Mac N' Cheese. Reminded me of back in Alabama. After talking with the server/owner, it turns out it's all based off 4 generations of family recipes from lower Alabama.
