The cashier was very friendly in helping me figure out what I should probably get.My buddy got a sorrel drink and curry chicken platter. My buddy let me try his sorrel drink. It was quite good. I also got to try the chicken. Super good and almost made me regret my decision.I got the jerk chicken sandwich and a curry chicken patty, and a side of sweet plantains. I thought the sandwich was decent, but a little dry. The patty's curry chicken wasn't as flavorful as my buddy's platter. Plantains were as good as one would expect.I washed it all down with a Jamaican Pineapple Ginger soda. Super good flavor combination I had never had before.I wouldn't hesitate coming back here."

"I had a craving for Jamaican food and found this spot riding down Memorial Drive. I didn't have time to read the reviews prior to coming so we literally took a chance and I'm glad we did! Omg that jerk pork was soooooo good. Never have I ever ordered that from any other restaurant but wanted to try something other than jerk chicken or curry chicken. My first choice was the fish but it's prepared to order which takes about 25-30 minutes which we weren't in the mood to wait. All seafood is prepared to order so I know for next time to call ahead for that dish if I'm in the area again. The pork was so flavorful and it was right amount of spice. And it's plenty of meat! Rice and peas, cabbage and plantains ran me ten bucks which ain't nuthin at all. I can always count on Stone Mountain and Decatur to provide the best island food."

I politely asked to send the wine back because it looked old and opened and ordered a mimosa. You guys, I was honestly just trying to kill time before my daughter's game. The mimosa tasted bad as well. So I decided to do what seemed natural, send the drink back and ask for a drink that doesn't not come from an opened bottle of wine/champagne and request a business favorite. The Rum-Punch was 10x better and the pasta with oxtails was even better!!! My rating remains the same. Go try it for yourself!"

"A day that includes Jamaican food is a really great in my opinion. But it's not often that you find one like you'd find other foodie faves. After a visit to Kroger one day and seeing Tropic Jerks next door, I figured I'd come back one day and check them out. Which I did one early weekday evening. First impressions were great when I walked inside. It wasn't a large space, but the huge wall mural of the Johnny Bus was a beautiful sight. The large windows made it nice and bright in there, the pops of yellow, green, and red were all nice touches. Very refreshing! There were two other parties in the restaurant before me so I hopped in line and checked out the menu. It's always so difficult for me to pick out what I want to eat and the specials menu made it even harder. I ended up going with jerk chicken, figuring that I'd be back again to try more options another day. Pricing was decent but I think that I'll try to come during lunch time to check out their lunch specials. After I ordered my food, my name was called about 10 min later and I grabbed my food and headed home. After finishing errands and finally getting home and ready to eat, I opened my takeout box and what a surprise I received. There was no jerk chicken but... OXTAILS? Omg. God favors me so. To the Tropic Jerks team, pls forgive me because I absolutely sat there and ate it lol. I enjoyed them! I'm sure the jerk chicken would have been great but I have no complaints obviously. Next time I go back, I sure hope they don't make a wonderful mistake like that again. ;-)"

"Looks can definitely be deceiving, this spot is located in an old shopping plaza and has a pretty cool happy hour. You have your choice of a few drinks for $5, including rum punch which is some of the best I have tasted in the city. The music is good, lots of reggae tunes. I was surprised when my food came out on a white glass plate, presentation was beautiful and the food was so delicious. For $16 I had fried whiting that was perfectly fried and seasoned, cheesy mac n cheese, and peas and rice. The entrée was $15 and I was charged an upcharge for the premium side (mac n cheese). This place has so much potential, my friend and I were two of four customers dining in. Not sure why it wasn't crowded because the place is very spacious with booths and tables, a large bar, good music, friendly service, and a pool table. I can see myself returning here. If you enjoy Jamaican food and music, check out this place today. They also have a $5 lunch special."

"Being a Trini, when I first heard there was a restaurant named "J'ouvert" it automatically made the list of spots I had to check out. The restaurant is in an area that has ample paid parking options and when you walk in the space isn't large, but they made good use of the space, and there is a decent amount of seating. I must also say, they did a great job with the décor and different colors. The bar is very small, but I sat there and did the bottomless brunch which came with bottomless mimosas (FTW!). The brunch options were also decent, with some items being better than others, but the true star was the Hennessy Blueberry Pancake. I put a combination of the blueberry sauce and the passion fruit sauce on mine and it was delicious! Jordan was my bartender and he was phenomenal! Friendly, attentive, and efficient. There was a live DJ when I went and the music he played was the perfect mix of Soca, Dancehall, and old school and 90s/00s RnB. Overall, I had a good first experience and I would definitely return."

"Popped my head into this spot after being next door at M Bar for an event. I love Caribbean food so it was an easy 'yes' when I saw the Jamaican flags in the window. When I walked in, it was so dim that they could have easily been mistaken as closed for the day. But they were actually serving about 7 customers, not including me. Pretty good for a weekday early evening. I wasn't super hungry, moreso, greedy. So I didn't opt for a large dish, as tempting as they were as I perused the menu. The line was moving briskly as it seemed that most guests were waiting around for their plated entrees. Once I was called up to the cashier, I decided to keep it simple and go for a beef patty, coco bread and champagne kola. Always a favorite, simple combo of mine. Less than 5 minutes after ordering, I was called back up and given a hot, huge piece of cocoa bread, a warm beef patty from the display case and I grabbed an ice-cold champagne kola from the fridge. I decided to take a seat and enjoy my food as the coco bread smelled too good to hold off on. Lucky for me, there was a bunch of seating and every other guest was standing and waiting. Upon first glance, I saw that the patty was quite thin but kept pushing. Once I put my patty in the bread (a must), it looked very sad compared to the thick piece of sweet bread. The coco bread was amazingggg, always a fave of mine. But man, there was like, no beef in the patty. :( I was bummed because the flavor was really there! But it could have used 3x more filling to make it a real treat. Although a 3 - 3.5 star experience for me right now, I'll go back one day and try them again and opt for an entree. :)"

When you enter the restaurant there are bright red and yellow colors and there are a few tables and chairs for patrons to dine in. I tend to stop by during the lunch hours and order the jerk chicken meal, which comes with rice and peas and your choice of plantain or cabbage. The jerk chicken is tasty, but often I find the rice and peas could have more peas and they could give you more pieces of plantain to the order. All in all, it's a decent option for takeout Jamaican food and is convenient when I'm in the area and craving some Caribbean eats."

Asked for a chicken recommendation (brown stew, stewed, jerk, or curry) and she wouldn't even tell me which was most popular or which she preferred, so I just picked one at random and got the brown stew chicken. Loved it. Tons of flavor, slightly spicy, with delicious rice and peas and coleslaw. I got a small and note for you all-a small is plenty for a good meal. Would have preferred more chicken but I did get a small (there was still a lot of rice though). Regardless, I didn't leave a crumb. Doesn't look like much but worth a stop."

"I never patronized this place until they started coming to my job in Gwinett as part of this food service named Fooda. Once a week they travel from East Point to Gwinett to sell/serve a set menu. I intially started off wity the carrot cake. It was very good. Not overly sweet and definitely not dry. The next time they came I decided to get the Jerk Chicken, rice and peas and cabbage. I felt like I wasted my money. The portions were skimpy for the money they charging. They give you a dab of rice and a dab of cabbage. It doesn't even fill the space in the plate. The chicken was excessively dry and overcooked not to mention so hot I couldn't really taste the flavor of the jerk seasoning. The cabbage was raw. Please stop serving raw cabbage. It is not coleslaw. And whatever you do put a decent amount of food on the plate. You guys come once a week yet you still hold back on the portions. Furthermore I live 2 miles from your restaurant and would love to be a regular because you are in my community and you are black owned but not if I'm not getting my money's worth. Just food for thought. I would love to try your food again and brag about it. Many employees complain about the same thing."

Having some fresh fruit cut and peeled appropriately is not nothing, and in a lot of tropical areas (and in NYC, as of recently), this is quite common. We ordered the oxtail, sweet-and-sour, Jamaican meatballs, and the goat Curry. My friend told me to place the order because as a first time customer they would go the extra mile since I was a new customer and would want to impress me. He swears on this for his own personal experiences and has proven his point when other friends of his had ordered from here. When we got our food I asked if they had given more portions than they usually did for him and he was like "yep they did".
