"I have no reference point regarding what flavors to look for in terms of Ghanaian food but for what it's worth, this place is amazing! The restaurant is a medium size establishment off of Tech Dr. in Norcross and it's a hidden gem of West African cuisine.Upon entry, it's a very unassuming entrance. The interior is spacious while the setting is set to provide a more intimate sense of style with low lighting. Unfortunately, the music is blaring so conversation will be difficult to during a date. The service is great. My server was prompt and professional. Now for the food...A friend recommended I get the jollof rice. This is a tomato based dish that gives you your choice of protein of fish and beef or chicken and beef. There is a depth of flavor to this that I could not pinpoint. The rice itself had a rich smokey flavor that has a savory bite to it. Again, I can't pinpoint the spice they used but the dish itself is addictive to consume! The beef I will say had an odd texture to it. It was tough to chew but was also a bit fatty which was an off putting experience. The chicken was a bit more tender but was still giving an overcooked feel. Both the proteins were overcooked as there were tough portions to chew on. They were flavorful to be sure but for the most part, consuming the proteins was off so if they can improve the cooking method on the proteins, that would make for a better experience. The plantains included were tender and sweet which I thoroughly enjoyed. I also sampled the meat pie. This was a different to be sure. The minced meat is mixed in with some carrots and onions and the seasoning. It's almost like a hot pocket but the dough casing is thicker and doughy. It came hot and ready which was pleasant. All in all, again, I have no reference to understand what the flavors are but there is definitely a richness and a savory depth in the Jollof Rice. As this is also a tomato based dish, between the sweetness of the tomatoes and the sweetness of the onions off sets the savoriness and then there's a spicy bite to the whole dish between the rice and the gravy sauce. I thoroughly enjoyed this dish despite having no context on what to know but for what it's worth, it's good home style cooking.Highly recommend this place for sure!"
"Ate here a week ago and still dreaming about the Suya fries! I actually learned of this spot from a non-related Yelp review that mentioned the restaurant - looked it up and it was 12 mins away from me! I've been looking for a new African restaurant to try close by, so it was really just my luck. We came for takeout on a slow Sunday - the wonderful waitress helped us order (didn't get her name). She even kindly brought our order to the car while we were waiting, very nice of her.We ordered Suya fries, Suya beef & jollof with goat and plantain. Truly blown away by the Suya fries as I've never had anything like it before - delicious. The flavors were THERE. Seasoning was on point and the mayo based sauce on top was so damn good. Beef was flavorful and juicy. Jollof and goat was spicy and also delicious. I can't speak for in-dining experience, however they do have a stage inside, so looks like they host various events throughout the week. I will absolutely be returning. So happy we found this tucked away gem!!!!!"

"Hands down, this place has the best West African food in Atlanta. My sister and our husbands ordered the following dishes:1. Pepper Soup with Assorted Meat 2. Okra Soup with Goat Meat 3. Egusi Soup with Assorted Meat4. Peanut Butter Soup with Assorted Meat5. 4 Sides of Pounded YamEach dish was full of flavor and filled with generous amounts of protein that was nice and tender. Everything was delicious but my favorite was the Okra Soup. We enjoyed our food so much that we each ordered an additional meal to take home. The food and service was outstanding! Everyone was so friendly, welcoming, and attentive. Highly recommend!"
"They do not do dine in. We came all the way from Atlanta to try this twice, and the food was on point both times. We had the grilled fish, goat, egusi stew, yam. All of it on point."
"Great after hours spot ! This is usually the place I go after we've been out for the evening as an after hours kinda place. The music is Afro beats for the most part. The after hours menu is limited but has a good selection of some west African food and some wings/fries. The service is always good. You don't have to have a section for a larger party which & they split the bills with no problems. They do have valet and self parking is available. Great place for a little spot to hit before you head home for the night."
"Nice restaurant and lounge in Atlanta. This place has more of a club vibe with the tables set up like VIP sections. The menu consists mostly of African food and some bar foods like wings and fries. I tried some fries which were good but a tad on the salty side. I can say that our food was prepared in a timely fashion and there was no cost to enter (unlike other late night lounges). I went with a few friends on a Tuesday night at about 2am. There was not much parking available so if you choose to go at that hour then I suggest ubering. I would go back and maybe try a few other food items."
"An absolute yes to this restaurant! I was looking around for some delicious Ethiopian food and I found a great spot here. The love that goes into everything you can definitely tell. I had a chance to talk to what I believe was the owner here and he was telling me the care to detail they put in the dishes. The injera bread is imported from Ethiopia. He slow cooks the soups and naturally spices the meats. The word salt isn't even the vocabulary. I ordered their combo platter. I had the goat meat, salmon and chicken as the proteins along with the rice, salad and veggies. All of it was good to the very last bite. This spot is a hidden gem and a great discovery."
"Egusi smoked turkey and white rice jollof and mixed meat fired plantains . Food well seasoned. Service great . Atmosphere very nice."
"I ordered to a to go meal from this spot. I had the Efo Egusi and pounder yam. Flavorful and perfectly seasoned. The yam consistency was perfect for handling and the food was freshly prepared. The only downside was that I ordered more than 45 minuted ahead and the food was still not ready when I arrived. It could have been a busy night but I was surprised to still have to wait."
"Yesterday was my moms birthday. We asked her where she would like to go and she said that she didn't want anything more than pepper soup (African food). So I've been to so many places and at that time my usual spots were not open until after 12 so I fell upon this place. Parking: Beware! Parking is very limited. In fact, I don't even think the people are parking for that location. I didn't have to wait long but the park is slim to none :) Location: Its in a shopping plaza with other like restaurants and stores so really easy to get to. Appearance: Really nice inside pics led me to this location. It's decorated nicely and the outside is clearly identifiable as SL. Staff: I was warmly greeted when we arrived and the staff especially Winnie were so awesome! Felt as if they were family. Winnie took a good time explaining their menu for the day and then al of the products listed. Really appreciated that. Atmosphere: just like I like it. My mom enjoyed herself - Africa/soca music playing in the background. Food: They offered her a glass of champagne or wine of her choice as a toast for her birthday. The food flavor was exceptional! This was a really good impression as I typically only eat Nigerian and Ghanaian food but this Liberian food was really good. The only thing that I must mention. Their vegan options are limited. They do not make pepper soup with fish so be aware if you don't eat red meat or chicken. They did invite us to their event that evening and again very fun staff. Will definitely go back."

The food was good. African food from all over so delicious. The beef had a little bit of more oil less flavor. The food took us back to Africa. Thanks Ike cafe grill. Our server was Victoria. She was amazing. The ambiance was good. Lots of chairs in the back made me think about the place turns into a night out scene. Keep up the good work.

Delicious E African fare in a dim, intimate setting.Wish we could have gone on a day there was a live performance! I've gone here twice and their stews and swallows don't disappoint. This time around we tried their jollof rice which was super flavorful - not too wet like I've had it in the past either. They also have vegetarian/vegan-friendly options which was perfect for my vegan friends. My chicken was great but my friends' beef was on the tougher side. Service was normal and they played music videos on the TVs lol.I got a drink - The Akwaaba- which was pretty delicious and a good blend of their house whisky and lemonade. Overall Cafe Songhai never disappoints when I'm craving fufu and other swallows!

My friend took me here for my first time eating West African food! He was more familiar and said that this was THE spot. We had the Suya as a starter, and shared the Egusi with goat and the Debee with a side of jollof rice. Everything was so tasty! The beef in the Suya was so wonderfully flavored, and I love pairing grilled meats with raw onion to cut the richness and that little sprinkling of suya pepper powder brought a nice level of heat and extra flavor. The egusi was amazing--I love the consistency and savoriness of the stew with the tender meat and pillowy fufu. Debee was also great, very much enhanced by the onion sauce and the jollof. There are a lot of things I would like to come back and try. There were three of us, we shared those three dishes, and were definitely satisfied.

Great food and loved the chill vibes of the restaurant. Being Nigerian, I am critical of trying other people's food but this did not disappoint! Will definitely be returning.

We arrived to this restaurant/hookah bar around 7:15pm. A waiter came to assist us immediately which was great. They will offer bottled water as if it's the only option since there is a charge associated with it; however, tap water is available for free but you have to request it. We ordered around 7:31pm and received our food within thirty minutes. Because this is a hookah bar, the tables on the restaurant side are very low. You'll have to lean forward and down if you have the food delivered to you there. We were sitting at the low tables first but decided to head to the bar so we could actually sit at normal table height to eat. The steak kabobs were cooked too hard. They didn't ask how we wanted them cooked and we didn't think to tell them medium, so we just dealt with the overly well-done. They had a good taste, but they were just really tough to chew. The jollof rice with chicken and plantains was absolutely delicious; however, one of the chicken legs was really dark on the inside which made me not want to eat it, so I left half of that leg on the plate. I did dump the jollof rice into the sauce that the chicken sat in though because it was amazing. I loved the spice it added to the meal. The taste of all of the food was phenomenal. The jollof rice is definitely the star of both meals.

Since this place hasnt been reviewed recently, let me just clear things up and say that the menu is pretty much unchanged from the photos on Yelp, though the prices might have increased by a dollar or so on some items. We got:- beef tibis sandwich- beef zuqaar (with rice)- red split peas (with enjera)All were delicious!! This is the best Ethiopian food I have eaten in the Atlanta metro area to date. And gosh, really affordable prices: only $26ish dollars for all of the above! Safety notes: you can order ahead via phone, and all staff were masked.

If you are looking for some good African food with a healthier twist, this is the spot! I reviewed tolex African grill previously which is my favorite African spot. However Minas kitchen is a close second. They offer smoked turkey as a meat option for those who don't eat pork or beef. The flavors are amazing and the food is always fresh. I like spicy food, however for those who don't, they put the spicy sauce on the side. The service is great. They are so friendly! The ambiance gives you a taste of Africa/ Caribbean vibes. High ceilings, great music, clean bathroom. You would not be disappointed. I ordered the Efo riro (no pic because I devoured it) and the chicken and shrimp jollof rice for my friend.

"Amazing food and ambiance! Exceptionally prices and the best Nigerian jollof rice! I will definitely come back weekly."
"First time! Liked : Liked : Liked : Liked : Liked : Liked : Liked : Liked : Available on Uber Eats Egusi Soup (Mackeral) with Fufu Disliked ' Disliked 'Disliked 'Disliked 'Disliked 'Disliked 'Egusi Soup (Mackeral) with Fufu : ok, let me explain! This dish was not, particularly my cup of tea. I didn't mind the fufu; it was pretty tasteless and more of a texture thing and something to hold the soup, I believe. But the soup didn't have much flavor as I thought. First, I was kind of paused when choosing a "meat" because I didn't really want one. Once I got it, the texture and flavor of the fish were ok. It was firmer than I thought, which was good. I just expected to be wowed by strong flavors, and I wasn't--I kind of needed salt. However!!!! I would still go back and try other things from this place. Like I said the dish wasn't bad, just not what I expected. Jollof Rice: drier than I expected. Thought it would be more fluffy and flavorful, it was not."
"My aunt and I tried Boniks after Scott's Antique Festival. This was her 1st time trying African food and the experience couldn't have been better! The food was great, and the atmosphere was AMAZING We were standing at the counter when regulars came in. They were excited that newcomers had popped in so they welcomed us with open arms and they treated us to lunch. Boniks is tucked into a large and mostly empty shopping center but I guarantee it's worth the visit! The portions were large, restaurant incredibly clean, and of course the atmosphere"
"Taste: 5/5Price: 2/5Spending almost $40 on 2 plates is ridiculous especially for what was received. It's like they didn't have enough fried rice so they spread it out to fill the styrofoam container. I pushed the fried rice to one side there was ALOT of space left. The Jollof rice on the other hand seemed to be packed well. It's not nice to try and stiff the customers... just say you don't have enough. I doubt I'll be back. Or if I do go back, a big IF, I'd likely get a spoon to test the depth of food received"
"5 stars really isnt enough but I will select what is here lolThis. food. is. mad. good. period!I am Trini but fell in love with Ghanaian food on my trip there 2 years ago, and have tried many places since then to fill the void. Finally! something close to the real thing in Atlanta. The rice was good flavor, plaintains perfectly fried and fish well seasoned. I also had the egusi soup and the gari and I ate until I was so full I couldn't move. The portions are VERY generous and you get your money's worth. The chef was so friendly as well. I am sure she cooks this food with love!"
"I'm always passing this road and looking, today I realized it was a African restaurant there tried it out for lunch I actually wanted African food all weekend.to my surprise it was a super market also for African everything it's very clean in restaurants and store very organized as well.I ate Fufu and egusi. Wasn't able to take pictures ate it so fast lol go and try it out. The service was wonderful will return for everything"
"This place is a complete gem and is authentic and delicious as it gets. Our friend (who recently moved from Nigeria) took us here, so it was our first experience with Nigerian food and it was INCREDIBLE!! He said the food was the exact type of food you would get back in Lagos, if not better, and he felt right at home. We started off the with the suya and I couldn't get enough, it was so tender and flavorful, we almost got a second round. I had the jollof rice and turkey, while the other people in my group got the egusi, efo and yam. The food is top notch and would highly recommend this to anyone craving Nigerian fare or looking to try it for the first time. The atmosphere was really fun and festive and the service was above and beyond -- everyone was so friendly, our server made sure we were well taken care of and we even got to meet the owner who personally came over and introduced himself. We loved it so much that we even stayed for a hookah. We went pretty early in the evening, but our sever told us that it gets really lively later in the evening as people come for the music, dancing and hookah. Can't wait to come back again!"
"At first concerned being on top of the hotel. Would we like the menu. Well let's just say five stars. Apparently open only for a few months but is worth enjoying. My wife's shrimp was fantastic. I had the ribs and they were the best. Pricing is good. Strongly recommend this restaurant!!!!"
"I ordered on UberEats and the order came very quick and neatly packed. Jollof was delicious. I had fish and red red and it was finger lickin good. The plaintains were cooked like home made. I strongly recommend this place."
"This is the only Liberian restaurant in all of Atlanta so i figured I'd give it a try. I had never had African food before so i asked for recommendations and they brought out ginger shrimp and i can't remember the other name. Chef Chauncey is very sweet. He answered all my questions about what was in the food, names, how it was cooked, etc! He's also very popular, as we were eating i saw him taking photos with guest! The hookah was good , but unfortunately because i went when they first opened they did not have a bartender working. Couches and booths are comfortable, cute lighting, and the bathroom was clean. I've been hooked ever since! They host a lounge Wednesday through Sunday and i attend at least once every week! Their "late night/ lounge" menu is different and much smaller than the day time menu. My favorite is the suya. The lounge is fun! They play mostly Afro beats/ African music. But they do also play American music. The lounge is open from 11pm-6am so I've noticed that it gets "packed out" around 3am. After all the regular clubs close! 100% recommend giving this place a try."
"Wowwowwowwow!I'm not familiar with West African cuisine; I'm just always in search of delicious, humble, homemade eats.If you're in the airport area, check out this spot. It doesn't seem like much from the outside, but it is a bustling spot inside. Most people are getting food to carry out, but we ate inside.Go for the daily specials. By the way, chebb = tiny, glutinous, chubby and deliciously flavored rice. I made the mistake (or perhaps not) of ordering sides with the daily special, which is a ton of food. Got the cabbage and the plantains-both delicious. The plantains are crispy and not flimsy. Delicious food. Definitely will be back to try other dishes. One star off because everything comes in styrofoam..."
"The food is good. I was prepared to eat with my fingers but til I realized (upon arrival if my meal) that efo riro isn't served with pounded yam. There is a pounded yam meal option but efo riro is not listed amongst them. So I looked on the menu and knew that must have meant pounded yam is sold as a separate side. It's not. You can't get it or get more of it unless you choose from the limited selections. I'd never had efo riro without pounded yam (fufu). So I looked for the fork to try it the way this place serves it. No fork. Oh so I eat the jollof rice with no fork too? Never done that. So I dig in. I am knuckle deep and belly happy... but.. wait, no napkins? Nuffin. The hell. Well let me drink this soda that I paid an arm & leg for only to learn it's a fountain drink. Hollup... no straw? Am I supposed to be eating like I'm actually in the bush? Why no pounded yam, fork, napkin or straw. I have never in my life. Now, don't get me wrong, the food is good. There's only a teeny bit of spice but it's tastes yummy. But the missing pieces have me questioning how I got here and if I can get room service to deliver me a fork. I should have mentioned... I'm at a hotel. It even said it in my order."
"I've explored numerous African restaurants in Atlanta, Georgia, and this one, conveniently close to my house, stands out. Operating for five months, it has become a frequent choice for me--three to four visits in the last three weeks. The highlight lies in their excellent soups, available for dine-in or takeout. Although closed on Sundays, the tranquil ambiance with no music but a TV creates a relaxed atmosphere. They offer a variety of drinks, enhancing the overall experience. Highly recommended; it's quickly become one of my favorite African restaurants in Atlanta."
"Well seasoned and tasty! The cassava bread tasted like sweet potato bread, very good. All three greens were excellent, potato, spinach and cassava. Just a tasty treat. Loved the plantains! Fried fish was good but a little dry, but loved this spot. Will be back!"
