Let's talk about this Napoleon pastry, which was a hefty $7: you should be able to cut into the flaky crusty of a Napoleon with a fork. Alon's is ostensibly a French bakery, so they should ear in mind this pastry is also known as Mille feuille "thousand sheets". Not one big layer that is closer to a graham cracker crust and needs a knife to penetrate, so the cream filling oozes out of the sides. The cookie (chocolate chip pecan $3) was also overcooked. It was too sweet, and the chocolate chunks were middling quality for a single cookie the approximate diameter of an average drinking glass. On the plus side: The iced coffee was good. I suspect that their pastry selection is where they shine, and I would have been happier with a croissant or apple strudel which was nicely caramelized on the edge of the pastry. The cheese selection looks good, and they have a interesting assortment of snacks. I suspect the prices are on the higher side- if you are a true foodie looking for imports, make the 20 minute drive to Your Dekalb Farmer's Market, which has its own first class bakery, a fantastic array of imported cheeses, wine, champagne, crackers/ snacks, condiments, chocolate, coffee.... at good prices. However, this is a neighborhood favorite with a fiercely loyal customers - and I have to respect that. We lost Happy Herman's. I am glad to have these local businesses who provide ambitious selections of fresh, imported, and prepared foods and outdoor seating to enjoy it.*** In the interest of fairness, I am editing this review based on a raspberry chocolate mousse cake recently served at a friend's party: it was divine. I normally don't like chocolate cake but Alon's cake was made with high quality chocolate- it was both decadent and light. Perfection.

Been coming here for years... but went in for lunch and it was one thing after another...Quality has declined Overpriced Overrated Older gentleman behind the counter serving the prep food was maybe a little "too direct". Taking orders in an aggressive kind of manner... it wasn't crowded or anything but he just wasn't very friendly.Sandwich was decent though......

One of my favorite local VIHI spots. Swing on in grab and go so many options the bakery is insane, such a quaint spot you will not be disappointed!

Walking into this place reminded me of the local pastries I grew up in back at home where it was obvious who were the regulars making yet another return visit to this hustling and bustling shop. There seemed to be a genuine and beautiful bond between the staff and patrons. And I understand why given the vast amount of products provided in addition to just pastries. There are pastas, sandwiches, soups, breads, and so much more. I only ended up trying one of their double chocolate chip cookies and almond croissants which were soft and chewy. But I will definitely need to be back for more!

I've come to really appreciate Alons! I did a couple visits before officially deciding to review. The raspberry cheese danish is so yummy! The veggie sandwich is delish but u have to toast it before eating. I really love the vibe. It's so comforting & reminiscent of a grandmother's cabinet.

Great destination for gourmet food. A good lunch spot. Staff are knowledgeable and their range of curated deli foods is spot on. Highly recommended.

This place is dangerous. Everything looks so good. The twice baked Almond Croissant and pistachio crossiant were especially tasty.

I've discovered yet another bakery to patronize when I need a sweet treat! Nicely nestled in the Virginia Highland area this is a neighborhood gem. I stumbled upon this bakery in my mission to purchase cookies as a gift. The bakery has so much character and a wide variety of fresh baked goods, as well as cheeses. The free parking lot has limited spots, but I was lucky and got one. The vibe is friendly and neighborly. Many customers walk or ride their bikes.

The coffee is good and the pastries are delicious! However, my boyfriend got the chicken pesto sandwich which appeared to be just boiled chicken with a cold slice of cheese and some toppings. It really lacked flavor and was definitely overpriced for what it was. It also looked super unappealing.

This company has lost its niche in the community. Once was a great go to for French Pastries, quality and great customer service. Often visiting now the products look like pastries you can find anywhere else in Atlanta, but with less frustrations in the stores. Nothing is special about this location except for the overpriced products. Unfortunately, now you can find employees looking like they are afraid to move or breathe. No customer service and definitely no familiarity when you enter the store. They have a quick turn over with their employees. Seems like every other time I visit there new people. They look helpless and lost. I have seen the owner walk in and scream to the little Hispanics on the side. It's cringing to watch and witness. Poor people. Where is your compassion? Better yet report them to Human Resources or the EEOC!! The big, bald guy is so demeaning and unprofessional! I overheard him talking at the employees like they were not human. Even calling one stupid and dumb. Where is the humanity at this neighborhood establishment? It's like a live Hell's Kitchen!! This past holiday allowed me to know this review had to be written. Stop supporting this business!!! Spend your money elsewhere!! Boycott!!
