Yo Mama's Pit Bbq

This is the best bbq in the Montgomery Lake Conroe area. We ate here recently for the first time after living in this area for almost 20 years. Not only is the bbq amazing but they are locals. The service is amazing and they are the kindest people in Montgomery.

We decided that instead of cabbage we needed ribs to add to our bounty. Dano went over and picked up a rack of pork ribs to add to our New Year's festivities.

My usual rule is: if you don't see a line at a barbecue joint, there's probably a reason. There was no line here at all, a little after 6:00 p.m. They said they're about to close early. Should have taken that as a sign.The big sign out front says "Need no teeth eat my beef!" And it's true. The brisket was super tender--fell apart when just touched lightly with a fork. The smoked sausage was pretty good as well. So why 3 stars? The sides were blah, and the peach cobbler just awful. I guess it's okay if you stick with just meat, but I'm pretty sure you can do better in the neighborhood.

Man I hate to write this but I really have to. After my rave review a while back and another visit or two, I have to admit that I'll never be back. The food is delicious, the people who run it are great, but this place is just filthy. I can't get past it. The dining room probably hasn't been cleaned in 10 years...or ever. You can't see out of the windows they're so filthy and the door jambs are black from handprints that would come off with a splash of Windex. You know what they say - if it looks like this out in the dining room where everyone can see it, you don't want to know what it looks like in the kitchen. I have no idea if that's true and I certainly have never had any food that tasted less than delicious, but if you can't wash your windows or sweep the floor, maybe you shouldn't own a restaurant.

Why 4 stars? Because the value was good but the quality was just okay. --- --- ---I've wanted to check this place out for a while now and it finally worked out when we were heading over to my in-laws for the day who live nearby.Since we had 4 people eating and I wanted to try a bunch of things, I went a little crazy on the order. I went with a pound of sausage, a pound of brisket, a pound of pulled pork and a rack of ribs. I also ordered baked beans, mashed potatoes and green beans as sides. I could have ordered half of that and still had leftovers. Nothing necessarily stood out as great. The green beans were pretty subpar - they tasted like they were straight out of a can. The baked beans were unimpressive. I think everything else ranged from decent to pretty tasty. But the best thing about this place was that a mountain of food was had for $102. We all could have eaten at least two full meals from this amount of food. Would it have been much more delicious if it had come from Killen's? Absolutely. It also would have cost twice as much.This is an incredibly small and humble operation, so I was glad to support them. If you're looking for bang for you buck in Montgomery, this is a good choice.

My husband and I are always looking for locally owned businesses to support. We stopped in for some BBQ and we're blown away by the quality and tenderness of the BBQ! We're pretty picky about our BBQ, but we were very impressed with our food! The cobbler was to die for and everyone was very friendly! It's nothing fancy, but the food was incredible and we enjoyed visiting with the owner. What an awesome little find!

Top notch BBQ!! Never misses the mark with my family! Don't forget to sample their many sauces.

Not bad...just needs to be revamped. Great location, just not a lot of real estate to sit and eat
