Very generous portions and the quality of the food did not seem cheap! We ordered for pickup and the restaurant seemed very nice and clean. The order was ready on time which was a plus.Unfortunately we found that the breading on the chicken was too thick/heavy (mainly the tenders because they were massive) and the flavors did not taste as traditional as they do from other places we have tried. The sides were okay but the garlic fries needed to be crispier and the garlic sauce was overpowering. For these reasons the meal was overwhelming and not very enjoyable for us.Overall, this is just the opinion of our taste buds and as mentioned, the quality and portions is where I give them points so it's still worth a try if you're in the area and wanting to try a new chicken place. What we ordered: Combo Meal (you can choose up to 4 flavors)- 5 traditional wings - 5 lemon pepper wings- 4 mango madness tenders- 4 garlic parmesan tenders- garlic fries- onion rings

Wicked Chicken is located at the corner of 9th and G in East Village, serving up some fine tasty chicken sandwiches, wings, and tenders. They have plenty of options for draft beers and drinks as well.I came by on a weekday during a Padres game and checked out there many discounts with happy hour choices they had to offer. Inside is very modern, with a round bar inside, and the establishment offered many seating choices as well. The menu is displayed on large TVs inside with a detailed description of the food with prices. I went ahead and ordered the original chicken sandwich, which came with shredded lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, bacon, and ranch dressing. The meal also came with steak cut fries and a choice of sauce for your chicken to be sauced in. I went ahead with the traditional but was very tempted to try out the global, which was supposedly their spicyest and hottest sauce. The meal was prepared very well, and the presentation in the nice sturdy cardboard box was a great take-out addition. The steak fries were seasoned to perfection and were deep-fried golden brown while the sandwich was quite tasty, and all the condiments complimented it nicely. I must say the ranch dressing added a nice cool effect to the traditional Buffalo sauce while the bacon added another crispy texture and was well layered. The customer service was great and provided service with a smile. The cashier was very happy and provided me with assistance to any questions I had. I'm looking forward to coming back again and maybe trying out the wings and tenders. They also have a nice selection of local beers on tap as well.

Wicked Chicken is located on the corner of 9th and G Street in East Village. It had been a different chicken establishment prior to the current owner rebranding. They have a couple of locations in Northern California but this is the first one in San Diego. When we entered there were just a couple of customers at the bar but it was early for dinner. They had several tv's over the bar and a comfortable atmosphere. There was no pressure to order quickly which was pleasant given we weren't sure what we wanted. We ultimately decided to order tenders meals and it was great to see they had a wide variety of sauces. We ordered one with Mango Madness and the other with Traditional and Lemon Pepper mixed. The tenders came out and the first thing we noticed was that they were really large with a substantial side of steak fries on the side. The Mango Madness had a kick to it but the sweetness helped to tone it down a bit. If you've ever had Mango Habanero from B -Dubs this one is comparatively better tasting but not quite as hot. The Lemon Pepper/Traditional mixture was also delicious. Oh, and their blue cheese was delicious and had real chunks of blue cheese unlike some other chicken places. Honestly if we had looked more thoroughly at the menu we might have tried the curly fries or onion rings instead of steak fries but there's always next time. There was nothing wrong with the steak fries but it's not our favorite.Wicked has a large selection of draft beers and an additional selection of non-draft as well. They serve Pepsi products for soft drinks. We found Andrew to be quite gregarious and helpful when talking about the restaurant. He made great eye contact when speaking to customers (both other customers as well as us). Overall we would definitely recommend Wicked Chicken and will be back again soon.

3.5 starsCame with a friend and got the Spicy Southwest sandwich, it came with steak fries so the price wasn't too bad. I think I chose the nuclear sauce because both the Nuclear and Traditional Death sauces were listed at level 3 heat which I think was perfect for me. I was told the Nuclear had a BBQ sauce base while the Traditional Death was more of a traditional hot wings sauce. I might have that reversed so ask before ordering. The components of the sandwich were good but because the chicken was fried with a wet batter, the crunch didn't hold up with the avocado, cheese and jalapeños. It was more like a thick tempura batter, I'd prefer it to be more of a karaage batter or traditional fried chicken. I think if it was finished with a dry component, some kind of flour or bread crumb before frying it would have a crispier exterior. The heat level was perfect for me.I tried my friends tenders with mango Mango Madness sauce. It was much better. I think because its naked and the crunch comes thru and is not hindered by other components of a sandwich. The sauce was very tasty but just a bit hot for me, I wish they had this sauce in a lower heat level.Service was super friendly and knowledgable and answered all my questions about the different sauces. Because they're down town there's a code for the bathroom in the back. When in the area I'd get the wings and tots.

The previous hot chicken shop that occupied this East Village corner suite was one of my favorites in town. They set a pretty high bar so it caught my attention when I heard a new business was going to continue this style of food. This is Wicked Chicken's third location, but the first in San Diego. There was a U-shaped central bar with eight stools where you could sit and watch the sporting events on the screens. A selection of at least a dozen craft beers was available on tap. Several small tables were scattered in the main area as well as in a separate room for inside seating. At my visit last month, one of the co-owners was on duty. He warmly greeted me and showed a genuine interest in talking about the menu. Chicken wings, tenders, sandwiches, chicken & waffles, salads, snacks, and sides were the savory offerings. Fourteen different sauces were available, however the heat level was not indicated on the menu screen on the wall. You had to refer to a card next to the register to determine how spicy each sauce was. I decided to do savory and sweet by ordering the Wicked Chicken & Waffles. Two tenders were served on top of a waffle with any sauce choice. Honey BBQ was my selection to keep with the savory/sweet theme. The size of the tenders was large while the crust was decent although I have tasted crispier versions. The chicken meat retained good moisture so my batch did not have the same problem as a few other reviewers had experienced.I read from the other two stores that there was a Wicked Challenge in which customers were dared to eat ten of the spiciest wings. If the challenge was successfully completed, then an exclusive coin was the reward that could be used for future discounts.

Biggest portion I have ever seen for chicken sandwich. It comes with huge fries and it was pretty good. Literally 1 order can feed 2 people. They have the best ranch ever. Order a few extras because you will want to dip everything in it! It's not always open so that kinda weird. Def a solid spot

Woohoo! Excellent new chicken place in East Village! Everyone working there was so friendly and engaging. You start by ordered at the counter, taking a seat and they'll bring out your order when ready. We sat at the bar as we were thirsty for beer, crazy good taps by the way. Best way to get to know a place is sitting at the bar and chatting up whoever is helping you (provided they aren't too busy). We learned about their other locations, sauces, preparations, etc, a whole wealth of information. When it came to ordering we tried their onion rings (bomb), chicken wings, chicken sandwiches and fries. All really yummy with the exception of the sandwiches. They tasted well but since they use breast meat were kind of on the dry side. However their wings hit just right and with so many different sauce options you're going to fall in love with one them. One of the neat things about this location is that it sits right across from the soon to be opened neighborhood Target store. Chicken wings, beer and shopping, yes please!! Food was average and I didn't finish but that was partly my fault. I ordered the original Wicked sandwich with traditional death sauce. I didn't read the description because I was expecting the original chicken sandwich to be pickles, cole slaw and maybe some mayo. Nothing fancy. It came with bacon, tomato, lettuce and ranch dressing, I dislike ranch dressing so I couldn't finish it. The chicken was pounded out pretty thin so you ate left wanting a bite of juicy chicken, it's just crunch from the breading. The fries are massive and it feels like you get two giant size potatoes.Overall would ilI come back? For $20 I can't say that I will, maybe at $15 but the sweet spot would be $12-$13 for the sandwich and fries.Ambiance was a little lackluster. When my food was served the cook and cashier both sat at the bar on their phones. Maybe they were on break.

This place has amazing sized portions for what you pay. I ordered the mango habanero sauce for my wrap and I was in for a shock. I thought they gave me buffalo sauce at first and asked them to remake the wrap, but they confirmed the sauce would be the same. Not a fan at all of the sauce but the price for the portion you get is phenomenal. They were super courteous about remaking my order or offering me something else, but it was a long day and getting something that wasn't what I expected was the cap to everything. I don't recommend this sauce but I do recommend this place.
