The experience was awesome! Good selection of snacks and appetizer type food. Their iced tea is great if you don't drink. If you do I recommend the sangria. Entertainment when we went was awesome! Darrel Appelt and Phillip Brummett put on a great show! The Whistling Duck Winery is near Columbus Texas. And definitely worth the drive!

What a serendipitous encounter!! We found this place through their billboard on the road from Houston to San Marcos. It is definitely off the beaten path and literally follows a long, bumpy dirt road to reach. Upon arrival we were awe-struck by the beauty of the grape-vines and the sky. I had no idea Texas wineries could be so green! Everything was beautiful and peaceful. Multiple seating areas outside. Adorable dogs running around the grounds. The workers and out pourer were friendly and knowledgeable. The tasting fee is 9$ for 5 tastes. You can pick and choose from the menu and they will most likely throw in a few other samples if you show interest. Now, I'm from California so I have pretty high standards when it comes to wine. I was impressed with their whites which is rare. The Chardonnay was light with a buttery finish. It should be noted that their wine varietals Tend more toward the sweet. Still, there seemed to be something for everybody. We bought a bottle of Chardonnay (and a bottle of desert wine to go) and sat in the back staring at the amazing scenery and one of the most iconic Texas sunsets. They bring out water and snack bites for you during your stay. We met some cool people and watched the dogs run around. Such a cool spot to unwind. Although a bit out of the way from Austin, I think it is highly worth it to make a day of road-tripping and if you can Time your visit with the sunset, you are in for a huge treat!

My wife and I stopped by on our way to San Antonio from Houston and we're glad we did. The tasting room is very nicely done and the wine flights are perfectly proportioned to give you a sense of the selection. As it was lunch we ordered the charcuterie board and it was one of the best we've ever had. All of the items were delicious and paired well with the wine. It's a bit of a journey to get to the whistling duck but I recommend the trip.

Thoroughly enjoyed my time here! I was having to much fun that I forgot to take pics. The service was fast. And I would describe the ambiance as an elevated twist on a Texas country winery. I enjoyed the rose. It was dry and easy to drink. For food, I enjoyed the gourmet board. The meats were not your regular charcuterie meats, which I enjoyed.

Great calm and happy atmosphere. Wine is wonderful and the tasting is a steal of a deal so you can find what you really like. Get the Cheesy Meatball Mess, trust me. Sounds weird, but it's what you need! Servers are wonderful, friendly and quick. You'll feel right at home ( or better).

Nice, relaxed but not redneck atmosphere. Other drink options for those that don't want wine. The Queso is yummy. Great place to hang out. Both indoor and outdoor seating. Live music often. Harvest Hosts RV spots. Gorgeous country setting.

This winery is a bit out of way, but well worth the drive. They have a nice selection of wines served in a relaxed atmosphere. The day we were visited they had a wonderful guitarist playing Latin themed music. We talked with the manager, a very nice lady. I really enjoyed their chocolate and port wines.
