My one and only visit was back in 2015 - on a Thursday eve. When we entered the parking lot I first assumed this is a spot for adult entertainment (kindly take a look at photo attached), but the interior creates a nice atmosphere. It's a country bar with an average selection of drinks and a big area for dancing in the center. They also have some pool tables, but that whole area requires some refurbishment. It was very quiet - maybe that spot is better to visit on a weekend.

Ha, so much to say about this place! I went here last Sat. night for a surprise birthday party. Looking at the place from the outside, it looks a lot like a bowling alley. Upon entering, it felt like it too. On the inside it looks like a cowboy bar turned "club." The place just exudes dankness to me. On the main floor is a decent size dance floor, with bars on two sides. I distinctly remember people doing the electric slide followed soon after by soulja boy. Really?? They have an adjoining room as well with some pool tables and a hanging punching bag that times how "hard" you punch. Something every club should have. There is nothing like watching a bunch of drunk dudes do the old, "I punch faster than you so that must mean I can kick your ass." Either way, this was out of the norm for me so it actually was kind of enjoyable. The best part of this place? The $1.75 miller lites. That's damn cheap.

Great music from a terrific DJ who knows how to play to the dancers. Older group on Sunday afternoons and early Friday evening. Later Friday night draws a younger crowd. Wonderful dance floor, reasonable drinks, friendly people.

West Wind is a unique gem in Houston. I'm an older guy who LOVES to dance some serious, old-school Texas two-stepping - as in "If it came out after 1990 it's CRAP" kind of old school.West Wind fills that bill. This is not a shiny, pretty joint but the floor is good, the service is just fine, the drinks are cheap and the music selection (while occasionally erratic) will keep you on the floor all night.West Wind is first and foremost a dance hall. I can't imagine a person coming here for any reason other than dancing (Maybe the dangerously cheap drinks?) but there are pool tables, etc. to the side. This is not a good place for singles showing up alone. it's all older couples and pickup dances are hard here. OK, let me qualify that: there a a number of dance groups that show up here fairly often (SSQQ, Meetup dancing groups, etc) and when they are in attendance you'll have your dance card punched for the rest of the night. Otherwise, that outwardly sweet old guy is gonna get really pissed if you even ask him if you can dance with his lady! (It wasn't like that back in the old days - sigh). If you are over 40, know how to dance and got a date (or a group) you'll love West Wind. Otherwise, go to one of Houston's other fine Honky Tonks.

How come nobody has reviewed Westwind in 5 years? Upon arriving, on first glance the outside is a old and ugly. The parking lot was a mess with trash and broken glass all over the place. I have nothing else bad to say about the whole experience at Westwind. Well as a serious dancer I was invited here by a friend. The man at the door collecting the $5 entry seemed a little grouchy but the entire staff was kind and professional. The dancers were in the upper age range, most all do the unattractive old fashioned 2-step rather than the new version which is about 35 years old. The floor was small and most people will leave with black & blue marks from bumping into each other. It was insanely crowded. The choice of music was better than any dance club in Houston and surrounding areas, I been to them all. Just great polka, two step and waltz....no swing no hippity hoppity teenage junk or wrap noise. I found everyone to be very a very friendly bunch. My wife was asked multiple times to dance. Just sit still long enough and you will be asked to dance. This is a great place overall.
