Awesome! We felt very welcome there even though we were the only white family shopping for exotic soda"s!

This store has been a part of the "hood" of South Acres/Cloverland and Hillwood for over 3 decades. My grandma use to shop here or if she forgot something at another store. It's good that they redid the parking lot, and they opened a little spot, in the store where you can get a bite to eat if it's your type of food and I think they opened up some type of kiosk where they sell cell phone cover or something like that.Cons: I hate the smell that permeates throughout the store and as a vegetarian, i don't normally stay too long. The aisles are still too narrow, not too good, if you're in a wheelchair or scooter. And "characters" that stands outside trying to sell "bootleg" anything...I guess it's a part of the "hood" charm. lolAlso, don't go in the store if you carry a backpack! Security guard will boot you out.Since it's a family-owned store, I don't see any major changes anytime soon.

Best priced grocer. I was amazed at some of their prices - chicken legs for $0.19/ lb, Turkey necks for $0.89/lb, fresh green beans for $1/lb. I am driving 15 miles to shop there today with no hesitation. Good customer service, etc.

In town visiting, and was craving fresh boudin!! This was such a cute/old school supermarket and I loved how nostalgic felt walking in and seeing the set up. Love it and so happy there are stores like this still around.

We love the meat market at the store , the Butcher will cut your meat the way you want it, and the produce is very fresh! I strongly recommend going to this store for meats and produce.

The worst thing abt this place is the Latinos (male and female) in the meat section, thare super creepy. They assume they are the only ones that speak Spanish. They say racist things to ppl in Spanish all the time. I only go here for small things like coffee, seasoning, things that are package at the manufacturer.

Great store to get fresh cut oxtails and any meat you want! Be sure to pick up a pint of their rice dressing! It's the kind that when you get home and taste and realize you only bought one, you won't be happy! Buy several because it's the best in Houston.

Watkins is a Houston institution. My grandma shopped here way back in the day and the store is still alive and well. It reminds me of the old school grocers that sold meat over the counter and by the pound. It's not the cleanest store in Houston, but they definitely offerings worth your while. The weekly sales are hard to beat and I love the closeout wine they tend to have: can we say 3 bottles of wine for under $10....oh and its not cheap wine either. I would not suggest you make a trip to Watkins, but If you are ever in the area-give them a go

The prepared food is great. Always seasoned the way I like it. Also, priced reasonably & affordable for everyone.I enjoy shopping in the store as well . It offers a variety of food items usually not seen in a neighborhood store.
