If you don't read Korean you might miss this little gem from the road, but absolutely swing by to try some of the food they are serving. Traditional decor and nothing too fancy when it comes to equipment, but super friendly staff that will explain any questions you have. Tried multiple different items that I couldn't spell even if I wanted to, but the quality seemed better compared to the all you can eat type Korean bbq restaurants. Flavors on every dish were spot on. It warrants a revisit to try some of the specials. I think they could do with a few more meat options too.

This place is a literal hidden gem. I can't believe that not many people are talking more about Wa Jang Chang! It's quickly become one of my favorite Korean restaurants in Houston. The portions are generous, the meat quality is great, and the flavors are amazing! I haven't had a single bad dish here and I've kept coming back because of how often I crave their food. The steamed egg is a generous portion and I'm not sure how they season it but it is so flavorful! The kimchi is solid and I love how much vegetables they give you with your BBQ. I absolutely love that they give you perilla leaves. Not many KBBQ restaurants offer perilla leaves, and when they do that's how you know it's authentic! The real star of their menu however is their soybean paste stew. SO GOOD. I've never had such a rich, savory, flavorful stew quite like theirs. Usually the stews they give you at KBBQ are pretty underwhelming, but the stew here is so good it's just as good as the grilled meat. It's the main reason why I keep coming back. You can even order it with brisket point for a satisfying quick meal. For their Jjamppong, I like that you can order it with either seafood or brisket. Beware though, the portion is huge! The meat quality here is amazing by the way... some of the best pork belly I've ever had. Seafood pancake? Amazing as well. I just love that the non-KBBQ dishes here are just as good as the meats. If you are a fan of KBBQ or Korean food in general this place needs to be on the top of your list of places to try immediately!

Unassuming Korean spot in Koreatown that we've really never noticed before; it's located on Blalock right across from the Hmart plaza. Plenty of easy parking is available. Their interior is a bit more of a homey Korean mom and pop BBQ vibe. The owner was friendly; the menu definitely focuses on traditional Korean fast foods like JJM, and tangsuyuk, as well as grilled BBQ items like intestine, and various meats. We got a bit of everything there. They were a bit light on the banchan; they only served kimchi unlike some other spots which would serve you 4-6 side dishes like fish cakes, Korean potato's, etc etc. AppsWings: 3.5/5, solid but definitely not outstanding as some in nearby KFC spotsTangsuyuk 4/5, solid flavors and done well in a legit fashion Marinated blue crabs 4/5, some of the best marinade sauce, only comment was that some of the crab was a bit on the frozen side.MeatsRibeye 4/5, solid and tastyPork belly 4/5, sameRib fingers 3.5/5, slightly tougher than the others but had decent marbling.Overall it's an authentic and homey Korean experience that still remains a bit on the less known side compared to some more well named BBQ spots in Koreatown. It is a la carte, which has its pros and cons. An AYCE would definitely be less expensive but would've lacked most of the dishes here and the quality of meats would've been much lower as well. It's not boujee like a Karne or a BORI but you will definitely have some good Korean food and a good time here.

4.5 stars. Friendly and helpful service in a small and lovely family restaurant. The housemade noodles are delicious and have a wonderful texture enhanced by an aromatic black bean sauce. Kim Chi is zesty and well fermented. Shrimp Fried Rice is savory and comes with abundant shrimp. Pickled radish is refreshing and addictive.

Ambiance is perfect. I absolutely love Korean restaurants that use these tables for optional kbbq..the Korean characters in the wallpaper is also a nice touch. The booths are nice and cozy. You know you're in good hands when they decorate with soju posters..Today, my toddler was starving and sleepy so I knew that I didn't have a lot of time to eat a lot and I had to eat fast. We ordered a large Jajjangmyun (JJM), brisket and chuck flap. The JJM is good, the large is in charge. Split between 4 people easily. I shouldn't have eaten a small bowl of this cause my stomach got used up too quickly that I didn't have enough stomach space for what I actually came here for (gopchang!). Anywho, they don't give banchan like other kbbq places, cause you don't need it. If you get a combo meat order, you get massive bowl of dj jigae which was very savory and spicy. And the egg souffle was generous and steaming!!! I also loved the kimchi. It was fermented just enough and had a good crunch to it still. Service is same as most Korean spots, but just ring the bell and someone will come... eventually. I'll be back even if I have to eat by myself!!!!

I like this place a lot. Went for my friends bday and she loved it. Food was really good. Appetizers come out w the main dish I think that might be customary but still everything was devoured. The server was really nice.

You know it's legit when the signage is only in Korean. We've had the best eel in Seoul and was pleased to find fresh eel here. The eel combo came w egg bomb, pickled chives and soybean paste stew. Absolutely delicious! Tried their grilled intestines and it did not disappoint. The following week we went back to taste their Korean Chinese offerings and I can tell you their jjamppong and jjajangmyeon are authentic. Apparently their marinated raw crabs is really yummy, need to try that next visit. Gene (sp?) was our server both times and he was great! They've been opened for 1-1/2 years but not many people know about it.

If you're looking to grill your own fresh eel at the table, this is the spot.Very happy that we have found this spot because this is the only kbbq spot that serves fresh eels that we know of in Houston. The owner cooks for you. The eel melt in your mouth. This is definitely a hidden gem.
