Volare is a cozy family Italian restaurant with a homey feel. The food prices are reasonable and affordable! I wouldn't use the word fancy to describe this place, but food is quality with good value. I got the Tortellini Volare and I really liked it. It was very rich and creamy. The portion was generous so I got a good two meals out of it. There is a tiny parking lot out front shared with another shop. Our server was young, but quick and amicable. No complaints about any of the service. I had a good experience here and would like to come back!

In my opinion, the best meal in San Diego, (period), is the Cioppino lunch with side salad & bread for $15. Don't be deterred by the bait shop next door, or the parking situation. Get there, get anything on the menu- and love it. To me, it has the home feel of a Connecticut family-owned restaurant that takes care of the locals and has plenty of regulars. The servers are real people, hard workers, and no-nonsense. Just great food.Btw- if you really want a surprise, get the broccoli appetizer. It's a game changer.

Really good authentic Sicilian food. Times have changed, used to be the most affordable spot in Point Loma to eat. Now, a Family of three can be sure to spend $100 for a dinner. So make sure you pick the right meal, it's a great spot to get that special dish, don't waste your money on simple dishes. Get the more complex one. The service is a little slow but you get service with a smile.I support small business and this great family. No military discount. And yes, the prices have changed with the new menus.Steak is still an option, fyi. Not on the menus but on the front board.

Our new Fave Italian spot in San Diego that is soooo authentic, without having to trek down to Little Italy ;-). Granted, I love Little Italy but parking a pain and this place is so unpretentious. Yes, it is as I affectionately call a 'Hole in the Wall' but also a true 'Hidden Gem'!!!!! Food is absolutely amazing! Faves are the stuffed Artichoke Appetizer that is usually a special item (but has been there every time we went), the Veal Parmigiana, Steamed Clams, Mussels alla Marinara, Eggplant Parm and amazing Pasta!!! What the heck, we have enjoyed every dish we have had here!!! So if you want authentic Italian, and it's just about the food then go here! Service has always been fabulous too! Can't say enough great things about this place, will be our fave forever!

Food tasted like it was made from a jar. Definitely didn't taste like it was homemade. The service wasn't fantastic either. Our food was dropped off and no one came back except to ask if we were done. Definitely a one and done. Not recommended.

I love this small Italian restaurant. It truly seems like a hole in the wall, and it was such a great find! If you love that mom and pop feel, you'll enjoy Volare! The special they had, the Scallop Pappardelle, was incredible! My next favorite was the Lobster Ravioli. The Lasagne was good, heavy on the cheese and would appreciate more meat and sauce. Overall, wonderful place and will be returning!

Service was a little bit slow as it took a bit to get us seated and take our orders but the waiter did tell us that they were short staffed after we got seated. It's a little bit hole in the wall but thats where the good food is. They did not disappoint at all. The food was absolutely amazing. This was probably the best pasta that I've had in a long while. It was so tasty and the mushrooms that were in my pasta added the perfect balance of flavor. My sister who is in this area often says that this place is one of her regulars, and we are some real foodies.

"Volare...oh,oh...Cantare...oh, oh, oh", I couldn't help singing to myself after enjoying a delicious meal at Volare. I have probably driven past Volare hundreds of times, as it is on a small road connecting Midway District to the 5 freeway, which is one of my regular drives. To quote our server, the outside looks a bit "sketchy" which was one of the things that had intrigued me. I had read the rave reviews, and had seen delicious-looking leftovers that one of my coworkers brought to work one day. Finally, my cousin and I decided we HAD to go. Upon entering, the restaurant instantly lost its "sketchiness" and we were transported to the old Chicagoland family restaurants where we spent our childhood.... wooden walls and chairs, and old school decor. Many of the photos and paintings were of course, of Italy. Frank Sinatra played our soundtrack of the night. Our servers (yes more than one) were very attentive throughout the evening. We learned that one of our server's mother is the owner and she is from Sicily. We also learned that her two brothers opened the restaurant in 1978 and the restaurant has been going strong ever since. My cousin and I started with a bottle of wine... good Italian wine (Nero d'avila) for only $26! We started with the fried zucchini appetizer... perfectly cooked, slightly crispy on the outside and soft, but not mushy on the inside. We enjoyed garlic bread (on the house) with our meal. I ordered one of the dinner specials: pappardelle with mushrooms and truffle oil, and scallops. I was absolutely in mushroom and truffle heaven! I also enjoyed a small house salad. My cousin chose Shrimp Volare, shrimp slightly breaded and cooked with lots of garlic. Her dish came with soup or salad. Her dish also included a huge plate of spaghetti and sauce. Finally, I had lots of food leftover, so it took my cousin to twist my arm and convince me to order dessert. She suggested tiramisu, my favorite, but upon hearing that the owner is from Sicily, I had to order cannoli. We shared both of them.. and they were amazing. The tiramisu had a strong and slightly sweet coffee flavor... perfect! The canoli was crispy and not soggy at all.I have to say, one of the best parts of the meal was the price... all of this amazing food, including wine, appetizer, and dessert, came to a total of $104. There was no surcharge.... all of this delicious food and great was service so reasonably priced. We also both walked away with our lunch for the next day. We had a delicious dinner and wonderful evening at Volare. If you enjoy Italian food and a restaurant with no frills, go ahead, and enjoy an evening at Volare...oh, oh... Cantare.... oh, oh, oh.

Excellent service, old school vibes and ambiance, and can't recommend the desserts enough- tiramisu is top notch and cannoli is delightful. Had the pappardelle mushroom pasta with scallops (a special), which did not disappoint- flavorful sauce & fresh pasta. Want to try their lunch specials soon!
