We've been to Vietnam Cafe countless times in West Philly, but have only been to this location a couple of times. My take-away from both locations? Vietnam Cafe and Restaurant will provide you solid service and food for a fair price. I think they're always a good solid choice, and I've truly never had a bad meal here - and service is always attentive and polite. I hadn't had pho in forever, so I had the chicken pho which was pretty good as usual - the only thing slightly off this time for me was that it tasted a little heavy on the salt - but my husband didn't comment on the broth, may have just been me! He ordered the chef's special, the duck served with rice and pickled veggies. He really enjoyed it, nicely seasoned, crispy on the outside but juicy duck inside. We weren't able to tip on the gift card we bought during the holidays, so just a FYI to remember to bring cash to tip if you're using a gift cardBut if you're looking for solid family home style Vietnamese food, this is a good spot! Decor is clean and inviting.

Pho shop was busy on a Friday evening. Ate the vegetarian pho and the vegetarian spring rolls. The pho was tasty and not salty. The vegetables were very fresh and crispy (aka not overcooked in the broth). I ordered some extra boiled tofu and they brought it fresh without any issue or argument.Would definitely come here again to enjoy another meal. Moderately priced, and friendly service.

This review is really more like 3.5 but I wanted to be realistic if you're a Vietnamese person and being really excited that this is a James Beard winner. The good: the crispy egg rolls are pretty amazing. Since it is wrapped in the rice paper and not the traditional egg roll wrapped, it's light and the crispy bubbles are a delight. The service is incredible. I know they received a huge influx due to the James Beard hype and they handled it with grace and good organization. The questionable: While I think the broth has the right notes and such, I was trying think why it tasted so light. It's not exactly a Northern style pho so I realized that the broth must have been a little diluted in some way. It's not as beefy as one would hope for a pho. The bun bo hue was spicy (which very nice) but it lacked the meaty (pork) broth undertone too. I think this is where I'd take my corporate boss, but not where I'd take my Vietnamese family. Everything is fine, but it's not hitting the same.

Great lunch here. Had the special Vietnamese ravioli, delicate crepes with ground chicken and mushroom, the house special vermicelli and tofu vermicelli. The house special noodles had grilled chicken, pork, meatball and fried spring roll, a definite winner and nice to sample a little bit of everything. Vietnamese coffee was a perfect way to finish. A little off the fray in Chinatown, and worth a visit.

Ate here solo on a Sunday afternoon. Tried the duck pho because I was feeling adventurous. I liked it, particularly the broth and veggies! I would probably stick to traditional pho if I went back. Service was quick and friendly. Very no-frills restaraunt at a reasonable price. It was quiet when I went on Sunday. I'd like to come back and try more things here with a group!

Such a cute intimate place to grab a causal lunch or dinner! We stopped around 1:00 on a Friday and it was fairly busy. Service was great and they have a full bar. I recommend the shrimp fresh rolls. The grape leaf rolls were good too, however I am used to the Lebanese version and this was very different. Next time I want to definitely try the pho!

This place was recommended by a friend who's local in the area so I decided to try it on my last day in Philly. Thankfully I went on a right day as the restaurant is closed on Mondays. Ordered a whole bunch of food, was happy to see Vietnamese ice coffee on the menu so ordered that too. I went at an odd time (3:45pm) for a late lunch so I had the place basically all to myself. The food was pretty good, I really enjoyed my vermicelli bowl with mixed proteins. The place is nice and clean, including the toilets. Our waiter Umesh was nice and helpful, not to mention friendly too.

After hearing they won the James Beard Award, we had to try this place. Came with my family for dinner and got there just in time. They close at 8 and we were seated at 6:45. Everyone was very friendly greeting us when we came in. Very homey inside and smelled amazing. I got the chicken lemongrass soup which is spicy and it was perfect, also started with some spring rolls. very yummy and food comes out very fast!

The food did not hold up to its reputation. We ordered seafood pots, it was very salty and small portions. Overall it was overpriced for what it was. ... the room was cozy and the staff was friendly.
