Viceroy, located in downtown Durham with an ambience sparking memories of a London pub mixed with Curry and a unique bar menu- totally for the win! Parking recommendations are in the nearby garage but for dinner we got lucky and had street parking. We got 2 abv free drinks, 2 cocktails and a beer and everything was fantastic. The odd couple was unique with the curry leaf oil but the Kala Mirch was a brilliant take on black pepper strawberries, sort of like a highly elevated Bloody Mary. We did the London Mixed grill and the spinach chaat. The mixed grill was delicious came with rice and the spinach chaat was a chaat version of crispy spinach pakoras. Very good! Dal Makhni, Anjeeri Kofta and butter chicken were all fantastic and I felt like this was possibly the most authentic north Indian rich meal I've had in the U.S. they make the Gulab jamun in house and I was surprised to see 3 generous pieces in the dessert portion. If they added a stuffed pistachio into the Gulab jamun, it might be legit the best in the country (but I do get how they might want to keep it nut free). The naans blow it out of the park! Thai chili naan? Yes please! Garlic naan is always a home run! We will keep coming back! I highly recommend Viceroy for potentially the finest Indian food in the the area!

Food yes! Ambiance yes! Service okay.Never have we ever had any naan so perfectly made and seasoned. Dipping it in the savory spicy sauces of our yummy plates of food was amazing. The wings were also delicious. We were all wanting more, and even wolfed down the veggie layer they were served on top. Everything was perfect except the service was a bit detached... everyone seemed to only care about getting things done and made faces and gave attitudes as they moved around and answered questions. Our party was left a little deflated from that. But otherwise it was great! We'd come back for sure.

Super charming local restaurant with insanely good service and food. Highly recommended for a dinner with friends, colleagues, or a date night. I dined with my boss while in town for work and absolutely loved everything about the experience. The restaurant's vibe is chic and trendy while being upscale with a comfortable, casual feel. We ordered the cauliflower appetizer (I don't remember the name, but you'll know when you see it/the staff will know if you ask for it) and it couldn't have been better. I'm a vegan so you don't have to take my word for it when I say that it had a "meaty" texture, but it was certainly far better than what you'd typically expect from a cauliflower based dish (my boss also said it was meaty and he's an omnivore).I had the Chana masala with a medium spice level for my main course, and it was perfection. The basmati rice it was served with was perfectly cooked and fluffy and paired perfectly with the dish.Oh, they have a great selections of wines as well. I went with an orange wine that was described as a bit funky. It was fabulous and paired very well with the food.Overall, I had an amazing experience at Viceroy and highly recommend it!

Viceroy is AMAZING. Best Indian food I've ever tasted. I went to visit Durham from Florida and my friend brought us here. The vibes were dark and so cool! We made a reservation because my friend said it's the best way to get a table. Once we arrive we were sat pretty quickly. Our server was so energetic and a great time. For appetizer we ordered the veggie samosa, Jeera Wings & Lamb Lollipops. We decided to share some entrees so we got the chicken vindaloo and the lamb Korma. Both were medium spicy and the perfect amount of spicy. For drinks I don't remember the name but it was a ginger gin mule and super tasty. I highly recommend checking them out if you're around and can snag a reservation!

Another visit, STILL outstanding. Shout out to Doug, our server, who made the evening fun. Our group included a gluten, dairy, egg and cashew allergy. In addition to the menu denoting the GF and Dairy free items and where cashews could be excluded, Doug went the extra mile to check with the kitchen to know what to avoid that has eggs in it. (Turns out only a few menu items have eggs -- who knew??)Food every bit as good as last visit. Tried Sarson Ka Saag with chicken. The Panjabi winter recipe is a stew of mustard greens simmered with a delectable array of spices. I added large chunks of tender chicken. An excellent entree - and don't forget to dip the garlic naan in that sauce! This is such a cool place, with outstanding food and excellent service. Ya gotta go! Pro tip - there is a parking lot at the back of the building, enter on Ramseur St. Viceroy has a back door that you can enter from the parking lot. Saves a few steps and no more circling the block hoping for a space to open up.

Service was great. Ambiance was vibrant. I had the lamb vindaloo and it was too good. Has to get extra rice to finish it off!

Atmosphere: Located in Downtown Durham, Viceroy offers a sleek, dark, and upscale Indian dining experience. There are a decent number of tables inside, but it can fill up quickly! We've always made a reservation beforehand. Service: The service at Viceroy has always been fantastic. We've seen the owner, who is super friendly and inviting, each time we've dined in. Food: We've tried their Chicken Korma, Chicken Vindaloo, Red Thai Seafood Curry, London Mixed Grill, Garlic Naan, and Mango Lassi. Every dish we've tried has been amazing! However, if we were to choose our favorite, it would be the Chicken Korma. The chicken is tender and juicy, and the sauce is so flavorful. We recommend ordering Naan to scoop up every drop of their amazing Korma. The Red Thai Seafood Curry is another one of our favorites. It's creamy and has a nice kick of spice that works well with the seafood! Overall: We're big fans of Viceroy! This is a great place for date nights, celebrations, or an elevated Indian experience. We will definitely come back again and again!

My friend chose this restaurant for his birthday dinner, we had a party of four. I was the only "first timer" of the group. I loved the decor/atmosphere the second I walked in the door. The host and server were both pleasant, engaging and attentive. I scoped out the menu prior to coming and as silly as it sounds I was so excited to try the garlic naan as I had very limited knowledge of the cuisine. I was a bit concerned about how spicy everything might. I had the red Thai seafood curry. It was supposed to be mild but it had some kick to it. The shrimp and mahi were good though. I also was able to have taste of the sausage roll which was decent, and also sampled the mykamwala paneer. My friends did share that the spice levels are not always consistent and I found this statement true bc the paneer was supposed to be spicy and my mild sauce was much more intense. As anticipated, I loved the garlic naan.I have to give a shout out for the sign about human trafficking in the bathroom(in both English and Spanish), sadly these are real issues that need attention in my opinion! Thanks for a great dining experience, I will be back!
