Vernon's Kuntry Bar-B-Que

Service: we were greeted immediately upon entering the restaurant, even though it was super busy at the moment. The lady taking our order was so nice and patient, my daughter had no idea what she wanted and don't have a voice right now. She helped us with all the questions we had and got us all squared away quickly, but not rushed. Everyone else working was friendly in general, great environment!Food: oh man, this place was sooooooo good! I am excited to go back and try more food. I got the sausage on a potato, let me tell you, it's my new favorite! My daughter got the country fried steak, it needed a little salt but otherwise was great. My mom hasn't stopped talking about the coleslaw since we left. Overall this place was the absolute best! We loved the people, food, and overall atmosphere. Guaranteed to be back, over and over again!

Where to begin? Where to begin? I guess the best part of having a 30 minute wait for a to-go order called in a week earlier is the opportunity to listen to a half dozen other patrons complain about undercooked chicken, burned up fries, and a burger that looks like it was in the refrigerator four minutes ago. BBQ and burger places in this area are common as trees, so the only thing keeping Vernon's lights on is nostalgia and the hesitancy for their customer base to try something new. I am fully aware this place has been here since the dawn of time, but I was hoping that more competition nearby would raise the bar for them, not for them to dig a hole. When the last geriatric patron checks into the home and this place has to impress a new set of customers, Vernon's can blame "those darn new places" for their self immolation.

This place was packed, and its a big restaurant. There was a 15-20 minute wait, which was about 10 minutes. Started off with Crab Cake appetizer, legit. I had the fried quail, OMG....fantastic. My date had popcorn shrimp and it was larger than other places I've tried. There were enough sides for two additional meals, no way we could finish all the food. Tasted just as good the second day reheating in the air fryer. The service was friendly, but a bit rushed as they were jammed packed. Worth the trip....next time I might get to the catfish. IDK, maybe not...I loved the fried quail.

The food was freshly made and delicious. Sadly, the many televisions force fed a dose of Fox News. Don't understand why any news Channel needs to be part of a dining experience.

Food excellent, service exceptional and ambiance was just what I needed! I recommend the pork ribeye, wow what a flavor.

The food at Vernon's Bbq is like going home to moms! you can't get a better or more perfectly cooked to order steak in Conroe! The ribs fall off the bone, & melt in your mouth! Always a smile and pleasant person at the counter, and service is good.

Wow, what a TERRIBLE change since the new owners took over. The brisket was grey, no smoke ring, no red in the center. The chicken was overcooked. The beans were "meh." The bread was great but it was Mrs. Baird's Texas Toast so yay for Mrs. Baird's and "yay" for someone at Vernon's for not cutting corners and using regular sliced bread or off-brand. The sliced sausage had to RECUT when we got home because it was cut like an accordion (not all the way through); however it is one of the stars on this review because it was tasty even though not presented properly.We placed a large to-go order three days in advance, arrived at 1:15 PM to pick up the order. The lady at the register says, "It says 1:30 PM pick up." Ohhhhh kaaaaayyyy. We finally were complete at 1:58 PM.Terrible service. Food quality WAY down. Some of the order had to be thrown in the trash when opened because it has some substance in it that was NOT the food in the dish and we didn't know if it was trash, bugs? Pix attached.

I did.I DO NOT EXPECT In TEXAS TO RECEIVE SUB-STANDARD BBQ. You're in TEXAS! Come on. There are at LEAST, 5 BBQ places within 5 miles of you, there is no room for so-so BBQ. My TEXAN wife's BBQ, puts the BBQ you gave me, TO SHAME.You know what? I got some time, I am going to help Vernon's get back on track -- When you take a Take-Out order:1. Write down the order, from the person on the phone.2. At the end of the order, REPEAT the order to the customer.3. CONFIRM the TOTAL with the Customer.When FILLING the order, have the order IN FRONT of you.Place EACH ITEM, in the bag, that is associated with the ORDER and CHECK IT OFF THE ORDER. *Note: This is CHECK NUMBER ONE.When the customer comes in for Pick-up. DO NOT just point to a bunch of bags and say "Those are yours". You should: 1. Get the customer's order.2. Check the bags to ensure the items match the order. THIS IS CHECK NUMBER TWO. Why? Here's why:The NUMBER ONE issue with Take Out/Drive Thru Orders is that they are WRONG.It takes 30 Seconds to check orders. At the same time, the customer is checking as well. This not only allows for the exactly right order to go out, but would allow the customer to add something else they may have forgotten. It also prevents food going out, that wasn't ordered. So those 30 seconds could actually make/save you money.I would NEVER let an order leave a restaurant without being DOUBLE-CHECKED by TWO DIFFERENT PEOPLE. You shouldn't either. One last thing...Have you ever asked yourself, how many people, like me, have come to your establishment, had an experience like mine, and just NEVER CAME BACK? No complaints, no fuss, just gave up after one experience? Well I will NEVER come back, but at least from me, you now know WHY. What's even WORSE, due to this experience, Vernon's Kuntry CATFISH, which I used to LOVE, I just can't go there with any confidence. And that, is a down right shame.There ya go, free advice from someone who managed many restaurants. You GOT TO GET IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME. There is just TOO MUCH COMPETITION for these EASILY fixed issues not to be addressed.

They have the most amazing staff and even better food at a reasonable price! Their chopped beef is amazing, would highly recommend!

We went to Vernon's BBQ on 3/13/24 and I ordered a Jr Hamburger and Fries. My hamburger was medium rare and I asked for it to be cooked more. The cashier took my Hamburger back and in just a minute or two brought it back out and it was still not cooked. I asked her again to have it cooked more. This time she takes it back in just another minute brings it back out and the bun was cut in half and I asked her who cut my hamburger in half and she said no ma'am that's your same bun you had cut. She said the cook just took the patty off your bun and then put it back on it. The hamburger was still not cooked and wasn't even a FULL patty now. This cook just did not want to give me a Hamburger that was not Medium Rare I guess. At this point I just gave up and did not eat the Hamburger. We eat here often but will not be back after the way we were treated. The cashier was very nice and apologized and said I would be mad also if this happened to me. She knew the cook just wasn't going to give me a Hamburger that wasn't medium rare. Several of us go to Vernon's and after I told them about my experience they were in agreement with me that we will need to find a New Place to get us a Hamburger - We are Seniors and don't have money to waste on food.
