Vernie's Soul Food

It is not like it use to be everything has changed e specially the taste it is just ok the last time I ordered food it was awful for the price I could have done way better than this place BBQ Chicken

I had to stop mid way and rate this place. So good! Every time I get a chance to come to Philly, I get this plate (Turkey wings, mashed potatoes, green beans with a side of Mac and Cheese). It really makes you do the happy dance while you're eating. 10 stars!!

Those turkey wings though perfectly seasoned to the bone... also had the mash & gravy, mac &cheese and the string beans... man oh man how I'm so satisfied and I'm a very picky eater... I'll give them two thumbs and toes up!!!

I ordered my food before I read these reviews so I was nervous. A lot of the reviews were bad. I haven't had Vernie's in quite a few years so I was hoping the quality of the food hadn't changed.The turkey wings were tender and seasoned well. The yams were ok. They just needed a little more brown sugar and the potato salad was tasty. I'll order again.

Horrible! Turkey wings were dry! Candied yams had no sweetness. Chicken was just bland just like the collard greens! Don't waste your time, food was horrible! The little bit I ate, I got a really bad headache ! I'm hoping it's not food poisoning! Save your money!

Never again worst food ever . Ordered chicken, fish and both was dry and not seasoned at all. The only good thing on everyone's platter was the candied yams. What a waste of 60.00

The food is terrible. The chicken is stored in a warmer, ready to be served. The collard greens are placed in the middle of the waiting area floor, which is dirty and poorly maintained. The prices are not visible, and the menu is outdated.

I used to go here and the food was always good. Recently, I ordered a fried chicken platter, the mash potatoes were terrible and the collard greens were very sweet. The fried chicken was very good. I decided to try the chicken again but ordered cabbage and corn. Both wasn't to my liking. I don't believe Miss Vernie is doing the cooking or overseeing the cooking there. Next time I will just get a chicken sandwich.

I only purchase turkey wings from this restaurant which are usually ok to pretty good. Nothing Fantastic or Stella, ... but ok - good presentation, moist, tender, well seasoned, and eatable without complaints. My question is - with all of the turkey wings that Vernie serves, why don't you offer cranberry sauce with the turkey wings? Cranberry sauce would certainly increase your bottom line - profit. Just a thought!This is my go-to spot for turkey wings - nothing more, just turkey wings.

The food was horrible , didn't receive some of my order, the fish was hard and rolled up , it's horrible, food is not good. It was cold and had no taste
