Beautiful plating. Exquisite flavors. Lovely service. Wonderful ambiance. Nicely lit and decorated inside and out. Very reasonable prices for the dining experience. Will definitely be back next time I am in Houston. MUST TRY THE CEREAL AND MILK DESSERT. We almost ordered a second one after finishing our first, but were in a rush. Each of the four nigiris we ordered had an amazing flavor. One or two were quite unique, and the soy sauce / rice / wasabi added to the nigiri were perfect. Server did a wonderful job recommending dishes. Scallop and pufferfish dishes were wonder fun and beautifully plated. Tempura was not too heavy. The mushroom dish involved five different varieties of mushroom and may have been the best dish of the night. Chef sent over a complimentary avocado nigiri so our vegetarian friend could join us in a nice bite. Based on the dishes I tried (seafood and vegetarian), I have nothing negative to say about this restaurant and had a lovely experience. Very happy about the price we paid as well. Clearly a lot of thought and care went into every dish. Very grateful for this dining experience.

Went with my wife and our 1yr old during happy hour for an early birthday family meal for me. Fairly empty at the time but we had reservations. Valet parking is nice. Great ambiance and love the mini barrels above the sushi area. Danny our server did a wonderful job and service here is super attentive throughout our meal.We ordered the happy hour omakase that is $60 a person. Great deal. We also ordered a wagyu omakase, but they charged us for two people so that was a surprise. We didn't argue since our 1yr old was starting to pout so we had to leave. As a big foodie, the food was great for happy hour value. By far the a5 skewer we got was tender and delicious. Australian wagyu was also a great dish, but I recommend this to be last instead of the steak dish we got at the end (rather seasoned heavily so lots of strong flavors (sour more so). Regular omakase was good too. Love the place overall and would highly recommend it. We plan to be back in the future.

Decided to give Uchiko a try and this place definitely lives up to the hype. The exterior and interior were classy and such a great place for date night with its lively ambience and dim lighting. Our waiter was very friendly and took the time to explain the different categories to us. I got a grapefruit fizz without alcohol and there was a nice tangy hint that paired well with the sparkling soda. We decided to try the chef tasting menu with a 10 course meal and a dessert at the end. We tried a variety of hot and cold dishes with amazing quality fish. We had oysters for starters with a zesty onion garnish on top. The salmon was the most buttery texture that immediately melts in your mouth. The lobster tail was an interesting twist with a creamy sauce on the side. The New York strip and wagyu were to die for and paired with a nice palate cleanser of pickled radish. The dessert was one for the books with toasted milk ice cream and cereal with a chocolate mousse and cream filled pastries, I still dream about this!We really enjoyed and highly recommend the tasting menu to try a variety of seafood and meat cuts. I will push anyone to visit for any type of celebration for high quality and decision sushi!

The best place to celebrate your birthday! I've been to Uchiko Austin several years ago, so I decided to take my friend to check it out in Houston. I made a reservation for the sushi bar at 5:45PM the day before, so we can take advantage of the Happy Hour between 4-6. Complimentary valet available, which was awesome because we were running a bit late. Chef Omar at the sushi bar is great! He gave us a rundown of that day's chef's special, and took our orders right away. Some of my favorites are hamachi, scallop and of course the Foie Gras nigiri from the regular menu (not the gunkun from the HH menu). I've been missing this foie nigiri since I had it at Uchiko Austin, and man it did not disappoint. Make sure you have it as the last bite, perfect finish to my meal. One of the chef specials on the HH menu, the one that's not the big eye tuna, was surprisingly delicious. I love the green onion relish and lemon used on a lot of the nigiris. Chef Omar also gifted us the hama chili to try - thin slices of hamachi on top of slices of orange, topped with ponzu and Thai chili - it's got a kick, and the orange is an interesting combo with the fresh hamachi. We also learned one of the other sushi chefs came up with the dish. And since we were there to celebrate a birthday, we were given quite a few free treats throughout the meal. Thanks Chef Omar! I enjoyed the ambiance of the restaurant, a bit dark, bustling but not overly loud, constantly flowing with energy. You can tell most people are having a great time with the food and their conversations. I highly recommend a visit if you are a fan of sushi, and especially if you are celebrating something like birthday or anniversary.

Wonderful dining experience. Can't wait to return.Came on a thursday at the end of December with a group of friends, a mini HS reunion basically! Parking - it's valet, but one of my friends parked at a lot down by Turners and walked over. Service - was fab. Our server was fun and funny, and willing to explain it all, but gave us a lot of time to ourselves to enjoy each other, great pacing. She had a ton of suggestions on drinks/food. I'll find her name on my receipt and edit this review. Food - we decided to do family style and split everything so we could taste more. We did the scallops, oysters, edamame spicy tuna roll, the lobster x2 (my fav dish of the night), pork belly, Bincho Koko roll. Dessert - s'mores, milk and cereal. I'm not usually a dessert girl, but I did partake for the sake of the enjoyment of the end of the meal, lol. It was a memorable meal. I'm going back for HH for sure.

Pricey but good food! Come during Happy Hour which is 4-6pm! Recommend making a reservation too. Complimentary valet.** our favorites = definitely get* may order againNashville g & t cocktail $9 HH - [Asian pear, yuzu] - bf enjoyed it, it was strong! I don't like alcohol, but I thought it actually tasted good.**Brussels sprouts $8.50 - [fish caramel, lemon, chili] - one of our go-to's. Definitely order this.** Grilled scallop $8 - [strawberry xo, vermouth butter, Thai basil] - out waitress gave us this on the house for our anniversary. It was surprisingly very good (but small)** Oysters $3.50 each HH - very good* Kabocha tempura $9 - [japanese pumpkin, brown butter creme fraiche, lime powder] - tempura was fried perfectly. Very good. Waitress recommended this over the nasu (eggplant) tempura.** Ham & eggs $14 - [katsu pork belly, yolk custard, espelette] - 6 pieces. came out warm and crispy. The pork belly was tender and juicy.Smores dessert $12.50 - [toasted barley, black sesame, torched marshmallow] - they didn't have the sweet potato okashi dessert anymore (replaced with the fried milk dessert), but the waitress recommended this if we were wanting something rich. It was good but not to-die-for like the reviews made it seem.NIGIRI-**Madai $6.50 each (Japanese bream)- lemon-y garnish. first time having this fish.**Hamachi $6.50 each (Yellowtail)- 2nd favorite nigiri of the night.*Maguro $10/2 HH chef choice (big eye tuna)- tender and fresh*Foie Gras gunkan $15/2 HH (duck liver)- tastes much better than it looks lol. enjoyed this at Uchi before.Hotate $7 each (scallop)- good but could've done withoutSake Toro $6 each (Scottish salmon belly)- we love salmon, however this was just normal to us. Didn't have anything special on it, tasted like just soy sauce?Kanpachi $10/2 HH chef choice (amberjack)- more firm. first time having this, and it was a tad fishy to me

Loved Uchiko- a nice twist from Uchi. More smoky flavors and fusion of flavors. We tried so much food, I don't remember what all it was called but it was all delicious! Service was exceptional and great recommendations offered. I love the feel of the restaurant, nice yet comfortable. I'll be back!

LOVELOVELOVE uchiko! Its from the uchi family but we like it so much more and its typically less crazy. We especially like the happy hour menu - 4-6 every day. The nigiri always seems fresh and the chef picks are always good. We're also not oyster people but the accoutrements that they have with the oysters are absolutely delightful! The regular menu is also good and seems to have more than uchi.

If you're looking for something on the luxury side of sushi, then this is the restaurant you want. From the moment you pull into the covered valet area that houses both Uchiko, an upscale jewelry store, and high end boutique shops, it's a transport into the posh side of Houston. While I do not particularly care for forced valet, there really is no where else to self park. In the case of this restaurant, I was willing to give in to the valet, but I would have preferred to not hand my keys over to a stranger.Dark, moody, and sleek, the designers embodied the minimalism aspect of Japanese design, while modernizing it to be appealing to Americans. The dining areas are large, the sushi bar very long, and the bar is a visual blend of a masculine whiskey bar and Japanese design. Seating is comfortable, but I did feel like a child sitting so low at the sushi bar, while our sushi chef was standing so high above us. Each party at the sushi bar is served by one sushi chef, allowing diners to have full attention from their sushi chef and a shared server who fulfills drink orders and delivers cooked dishes from the kitchen. The restrooms are equally industrial beautiful, clean, and odorless. My cousin and I are huge fans of sushi. We both have quite a few western food allergies, making the Asian diet the ideal dining out option for both of us. We perused the menu a bit, and decided on the chef's tasting omakase. There is a reason why the menu states "MKT" for price, they want to keep the sticker shock on the printed menu from deterring diners from choosing this option. Yes, it is 10 courses, and yes, they were the best that Uchiko has to offer, but the price point was steep at $350/pp. Initially, my cousin said that he was going to pay for dinner, but at that price point, I told him we would split the bill so that we could both enjoy it without either one of us being stuck with the full bill. While I could go course by course, it would not help, because the menu changes based on what is freshest and what they have available. What I can confirm is that it is a mix of starters, traditional sushi, fusion Japanese-American cooked dishes, and two dessert courses. By the end, my belly was full and I could have even skipped the desserts. Would I recommend the chef's tasting omakase? Yes. Is the price point worth it? Probably not. However, if price is really a deciding factor, check out their happy hour omakase for a more affordable scaled down version of their full omakase. While there was a mistake/problem during our visit, without hesitation, our server visually saw the problem. Before I could even say something, she immediately said that she was going to get the manager. The manager appeared promptly, and stated that the meal would be comped. It's not that the mistake/problem happened, its how the staff handled it, and as a customer, I never want to have to ask for it to be fixed. They stepped up, fixed it, and did everything they could to assure us that our business was valued. Overall, their sushi is more traditional, the dining room is quite a bit larger, and the location is posher than their Uchi sister store. While the omakase is "oh-my-goodness" exceptional, the price point may deter many from enjoying it. The happy hour is the best bargain to sample some of their offerings at a lower price point for those who would like to still try this restaurant.
