Walk into this banquet/lounge style layout and be greeted with southern hospitality. The food here was amazing! I wanted pancakes at 11am but given the ratings I said let's give this place a try and they did not disappoint. This food just made me smile. Everything was seasoned well and their tea and lemonade is truly homemade and not country time and brisk. I wish I lived closer because I would definitely be a regular. If you like great service with some soul in your food, minus the high blood pressure, this is the place to go.

Sometimes on the road you pull over and you find hidden gems this is one of them. Black owned high class yet low-key this place is awesome. Tru soul offers just that great food with a touch of true soul. I ordered the turkey wings and the turkey barbecue to go My brother ordered The whiting fish plate. We love everything about it I honestly I wish I lived closer cuz I would make this place a regular place to head over to on the weekends

First, let me start by saying that we drove from Knightdale to Creedmoor (32 miles /40 minutes) to give the restaurant another try. We had been previously but arrived after the dinner rush so they were out of a lot of things, so we wanted to get there earlier to ensure we had more options. There is ample parking and the interior is very clean and well lit, with a separate bar and a spacious dining area. It's a walk-up style, so you order from the counter and given a number to place on your table. The staff is pretty friendly, but some seemed annoyed today but not overly rude. They had a full menu to choose from today so I had the 4 bones (bbq ribs) and my husband had the Fish & Shrimp plate, both with Mac and cheese and green beans. The service was fast and the food came out hot. Everything looked delicious, and had a nice flavor but it was way too salty for our taste so we only ate about 1/3 of our food. The prices are reasonable ($45 total), so I'd say if you're close to Creedmoor, give them a try. We were just disappointed after driving this distance only to not be able to enjoy the meal, so probably won't go back anytime soon.

Recommended by an acquaintance so I thought I'd take a visit for Sunday dinner. We drove from Johnston County about 71 miles round trip. A very nice hostess greeted us at the door and directed us where we should go. The restaurant was crowded with a line taking orders when we arrived around 4:15p. We stood in line to place our order and pay for about 10 minutes. My husband wanted lemonade but they were out of it. We ordered fried pork chops, Mac and cheese, mash potatoes with gravy, fried whiting and collard greens. Our meals arrived to the table in about 15 minutes. Everything was as ordered. It was warm and on a disposable plate on top of a restaurant plate. The eating utensils were disposable wrapped in plastic. I only got a fork and my husband got a fork and knife. Disposables are fine with me as long as it's the premium substantial ones. The collards were good, flavorful with a little spicy taste. No salt was needed on anything on my plate. Collards we're cut into small pieces and a sizeable portion. The mac and cheese was soft with nice texture and moisture. It tasted good.Price of the meals based on the amount of food is a plus. I think most of the entrees were $13.95. Service was not there other than a server brought your meal out. After that no one asked you anything. You were directed to a self-service area for refills, available condiments and takeout containers. The tip box was on the order counter with the cashiers. The restaurant decor was somewhat upscale like a nice party or night club. Everyone was just enjoy eating and chatting. In general they definitely live up to the name. If you want soul food check them out!

Food was excellent. I had the dark meat chicken, collards, & mac & cheese. Chicken was on point. Crispy skin. Seasoning was perfect. Mac & cheese was super cheesy. The place back home we used to frequent had closed a while back & getting a replacement place has been hard. Too bad this place is so far. All good. They let me play the piano. It was a great vibe. The owner was good people. He tells me there's a set there on Sundays after church and an event room in the back. He's got a second place opening too. Def gonna hit it up next chance I get.

My experiences have been with the catering department: family reunion and repast after funeral. The service is excellent and efficient. Each time over a 100 people served. The food was tasty, traditional Southern: fried chicken, fried fish, collards, potatoes salad and macaroni and cheese. The portions were more than ample. I knew the owners grandmother who was an amazing cook. He must have learned some techniques. A definite place to put on your list.
