Tio Trompo

I've been here 3 times hoping it would get better --- I drive by here several times a week. The tacos here aren't disgusting, but they're absolutely nothing to rave about. Don't go here thinking you've found the holy grail of tacos, because you haven't. 6/10 at best. The red salsa is watery -- like they actually pour water in it after making it. Hasn't gotten better so I won't return.The reason I'm giving them one star is because of customer service. The tall thin-ish older white male at the counter is extremely rude. Twice, he stared at me without saying a word as I grabbed my pre-paid order off the counter that had my name on it. He literally said nothing as I looked back at him; he just looked annoyed. The third time was the charm. As I grabbed the order and he stared, I turned to walk away & he said loudly, "HEY, are you gonna pay for that?!!!". Everyone turned to stare at me as if I was the taco thief herself.To add, that day I noticed that it looks unclean, rather dirty as if no one even tried to make it look aesthetically pleasing in the establishment.

Authentic ambiance and taste. We felt like we were recipients of special service when we were offered pickled onions and the red/green salsa.Highly recommend the tacos al pastor. These tacos on corn tortilla de trompo is a preparation of spit-grilled slices of pork originating in the Central Mexican region of Puebla and Mexico City, although today it is a common menu item found in taquerías throughout Mexico. Pray they get the piña to go with.

I appreciate they have breakfast tacos all day long. I went twice in one week and everyone that came with me approved! Reminds me of south Texas tacos

This has got to be one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in the area. Everything from the food to the decor of the interior is all so authentic. The meals were quite affordable and the food comes out fast and steaming. The owners seem super friendly and can also speak in English. Parking is tight but every time I pass it usually isn't too packed. Everything is super filling and the sauces that come with the food pair great. My mouth is already watering just thinking about this place and looking at the pics.

Got a to-go order of greatness from Tio Trompo and mannnnnn, it's good! QuesoChicken quesadillas Al pastor tacos ... all so good! Our order was ready quick, and carefully packaged. I have not a single complaint, all compliments! Cheers!

Great, cheap, and delicious taco spot in Houston. They have a bunch of options to choose from and each one tastes unique.They also have breakfast taco options which are unsurprisingly very good. They have a good amount of indoor seating. We went back for seconds! Definitely suggest getting at least 2-3 tacos to try the variety of meats they have.

Visited after the release of Houston Chronicle's 2023 top 100 restaurants and I have to say I am more than impressed with this place. Unfortunately they were out of the tacos al pastor when I went, but everything else was delicious and it gives me a reason to come back and try the pastor. I arrived during closing time, but the staff was still attentive to my order and my food was out quickly and was well prepared/presented. This is a more of a shop, not a restaurant, so don't expect anything fancy. The food is fantastic. Chips and guac: 9/10. Homemade guac was amazing. I wish the tortilla chips were homemade too. They tasted store bought. Chicken taco: 10/10 and probably my favorite. Pair it with the red salsa and some guac. So good. Oriental taco: 9/10. Not sure what about it made it oriental but I thought it was solid. Not sure what kind of meat this is either.Barbacoa: 7/10. I think I am just not a fan of barbacoa. I thought the flavor is good, but I had a difficult time with the texture of the shredded beef. The salsas, rice and beans were also awesome. Solid, affordable spot. Staff was great as well.

Run here! Don't walk. Do not expect fast food. Everything is made to order. So if you want grab and go, this is not the place unless you phone in your order to pick up. The food is worth the wait and this will be one of my taco spots. I had the Barbacoa, pastor, oriental and the chicken taco with beans and rice. Get ready for a flavor bomb! Boom! I sat down to eat. The place was packed and there were many people picking up orders and many coming in to sit and eat. This place has earned its place as a destination. Everything here is hand made. The corn tortillas so good. Bring a friend and sit back and wait. It's worth it. I will be back. It's small and parking is limited.

Went to this place recommended by my friend after a 5k race. Let me tell you - my friend put me on a good spot! Honorable mention for their TENDER & SAVORY barbacoa tacos! Will do a review for seven of their tacos and my recommendations. But first, we start with the atmosphere and service:Very aesthetically pleasing exterior and shows the establishment well. Big logo for everyone to see across the street. They have tables outside to eat if customers decide to enjoy their meals on a nice day. Enough parking during Saturday afternoon, so that's a big plus.Entering the place, very spacious and can fit about 30ish people. The kitchen is open in the back so you can see your food being cooked. They also have a Trompo (vertical rotisserie) that's in view. The menu is above the register and the restroom is on the right side. They have complimentary water on the side inside a metal jar that is somewhat hard to miss because I had to ask multiple times where the jar was (it was in front of me). Overall, the interior is clean and organized! Awesome tacos. Pretty big, two is plenty. Oriental is the absolute go to here. Staff is super chill and friendly
