I have been coming to this restaurant for 20+ years and I'm not sure if this is the same one that I used to come to before I moved but this is the one that's there now. It is not the same. The food is so ungodly mediocre. How do you mess up tortilla chips? They tasted almost burnt while also tasting bland. It was a god-awful combination. The queso was definitely the star here, it was delicious, but everything else went downhill. Oh, the mango margarita is divine. As a matter fact the only reason I would come back here is for those! So outside of the queso and mango margaritas, the food was awful. The service was so fast in the beginning it was almost like they were trying to get us out the door. We got our drinks immediately, we got our water immediately, we got our queso immediately and then everything else ground to a halt. I ordered steak fajitas with shrimp and the steak was just puny and overcooked. Way too many onions and the tortillas were too thick, super bland, misshapen, all different sizes, it was so weird. Disliked them so much I wouldn't even eat them with my fajitas. My daughter-in-law got the shrimp tacos which actually were cooked pretty good, my son came late and ordered something to go and that took longer than any other part of the meal. We just sat and waited and waited. The people here are very nice, so friendly but just wasn't satisfied with the food anymore. And I used to eat here all the time. I would recommend coming just for maybe appetizers and drinks. I didn't even take pictures of everything because it just wasn't good enough.

One of my favorite Mexican restaurants in Houston!! You get plenty of delicious food and great service! Beef fajita meat was tender and very good and we love the grilled onions. Their tortillas are the best, they taste like homemade and cooked perfectly! The tortilla chips are great and the salsa is served warm, just alittle spicy, but perfect! The borrocho beans have bacon and chunks of tomato, the absolute best! I think the food here is much better than Pappasito's and about half the price. Everybody I bring here agrees! Why pay so much money and get fair food, when you can get great food here?! Try it and see! They are very busy at peak hours.Big restaurant with 3 dining rooms.Large parking area.

My friend and I chose Tia Maria's on a Thursday night for a quick bite and a margarita. We were neighborhood and I remembered it was delicious the last time I ate there, which was a long time ago. We were surprised at how packed the restaurant was as almost every table was taken. Lucky for us, there was a table for two available and we quickly ordered a margarita. It was very frozen, and tasted great! We both we're excited to order from the senior menu. Not only were the meals less expensive, but it was delicious and just the right amount of food. I ordered the cheese enchiladas with rice and beans and a taco and my friend order the cheese enchiladas, rice, beans, taco and guacamole. I was so glad we tried this place again and will definitely be back with our friends!

I was working in the area and decided to eat Mexican food. Tia María's is pretty big inside. I was seated in a booth. The chips and wonderful salsa were served. The salsa was warm and the chips not too greasy. This place is not ideal for vegetarians. I believe everything on the lunch specials menu has meat. I ordered three fish tacos. You get three on double corn tortillas. The accompanying side of rice is generous. Plus you get avocado, red cabbage and a sort of ranch dressing. The serving is generous and reasonably priced, about $10. Music is ranchera. I overheard a waiter call a client jefe. Now why wasn't I called jefa.

Friday night and don't feel like cookin'? But really wanting some good tex-mex? Go to Tia Maria's!! This Friday was an exceptionally long wait because there was a school game happening across the street, and the restaurant was slammed! Wait time was about 35 min, and food came out piping hot too! We ordered beef and chicken enchiladas and ordered their Horchata and Pineapple agua frescas ! They were both a hit! The rice was a bit dry and flavorless today, but other than that, everything was just as great as I had remembered. Our server was attentive despite how busy the restaurant was...Why the one star deduction? They were trying to set up a large party behind us and add an additional table and it got so close to me when they were putting down the table, it almost hit me. Not only that, but it was super disruptive while I was eating and enjoying my meal. Maybe it's time to expand your restaurant and add a private room for parties? :)

Every time I come here I enjoy my visit and that's been about for 16 years now. Tia Maria's is easy to get to (290 and the Loop) with ample parking space and while it can be quite popular and busy I've never waited more than 5 minutes to be seated and usually it's immediate. It's been here for a long time and while Houston is flooded with Tex Mex restaurants I understand this restaurants longevity. Prices are average to below average and yes it's a little worn but in a comfy way.My fave entree here are the fajitas. The serving arrives on a sizzling platter with not only a generous amount of protein but also a lot of onions and bell pepper. Flour and corn tortillas are available and I usually go corn. The charro beans are excellent tasting and full of content and served in a large bowl that could be a small meal unto itself. Seriously! Finally their chips are light and delicious along with the equally delicious warm red salsa. Recently they now provide a green salsa too but it's got too much kick for me. Also the table service is always very attentive. They are always on top of it! The lunch menu offers several dinner offerings at reduced prices so that makes dining her even a better value. You don't leave here hungry.

We were out riding bicycles with a group of 15, hungry so we called Tia Maria's 30 mins before closing to ask if they could accommodate. Not only did they welcome us , but they let us park our bicycles inside. Their service was fast and food was delicious. We would definitely return .
