My wife and I live nearby and have been probably 20 times for dinner. The food was always amazing and the prices were fair. The prices steadily increased over time, but the food remained good. Last weekend we went back after not having been a while, and felt taken advantage of. We went for the 5 course chef's choice menu, which is well over $100 per person when tax and mandatory tip is added. This is what we got:1st course - a little pimento cheese at the bottom of a ramekin with a few slices of toasted baguette. The cheese was fine but this was something you'd expect to be put out for free before ordering, not a first course.2nd course - gumbo. It wasn't bad, although a fairly small portion and more like a soup than a gumbo.3rd course - brocolini salad. Each of us got a few meager pieces of roasted brocolini with a few pickled onions on top. Tiny portion, and really should just have been a side to a main course.4th course - we each got one chicken thigh. It was good, but again not much of a portion. Also, for the price, it was a very cheap entree and I would have expected something more like steak, crab cakes, fish, maybe even a few chicken thighs.5th course - a small (2 bite) pumpkin cake. It was ok. I stopped after one bite. I'm not actually even complaining about the amount of food. It was really just that for the price, the meal was really a lot of cheap ingredients and we felt like the restaurant was just trying to make as much money as possible on us without spending anything on the ingredients. After each course, we kind of just looked at each other and thought this is it? Really? If it was $40 per person it would have been a little easier to swallow.Anyway, I hope this restaurant finds its way back to where it used to be. The service is still great and the restaurant is beautiful. There are few options out in the country where we live and I'd love to keep coming back here, but if it was anything like our last experience we unfortunately will have to drive into the city for a good meal.

As I always say, first impressions matter and this place knocked it out of the park. It all started with exceptional customer service, a personal tour of the premises, and just a very professional overall experience without the conceded, nose up type of high class attitude. The staff put a lot of attention to detail into every room. Everything was exceptionally clean and well organized. And if you are into workmanship, pay attention to the building details. A lot of work went into ensuring everything looked right. The amenities are great. The pool, the pond, the open fields, the trails; everything is well maintained - and this is over 100 acres! The restaurant and events room are very nice. The food is very well prepared and I highly recommend the five course dinner. This is a boutique establishment so portions are not like you'd see at a chain. However, the five course was just right for us.The only somewhat negative thing I can write about is their in-room wifi. If you're in for the night and would like to watch tv, you'll be frustrated quickly as the streams pause a lot to buffer.I don't know if it's their bandwidth limitation by their ISP or poor wifi design. Be it as it may, this is certainly something that's not a big deal as you really should enjoy your time there, take a walk, disconnect, and just live.

My husband, my newborn, and I just had the most amazing two day staycation at the Historic Hill House & Farm. We came to celebrate four events all within a month: the birth of our second baby (a girl), our 14th year anniversary, my birthday, and my husband's birthday. From the beginning, Brian (the GM) and team were so accommodating. I called in advance to have something set up in our room for my husband. Brian made sure we had balloons for each celebration as well as a charcuterie board and a great bottle of wine to toast (at a pretty reasonable price). The room was great. Spacious, very clean, and the bed was SUPER comfortable...you just sink in like if you were in a cloud. There was a kitchenette, where I was able to keep my pumped milk for the baby, as well as some candies to sweeten our stay. During our first night, we had the three course meal and WOW! Everything was just delicious! What I love is that there is no menu, just chef's choice. And the dessert: parsnip cake...to die for. We had never eaten a parsnip cake but it was amazing! After dinner, we went and sat by the campfire and had the best time with the few other couples that were also celebrating anniversaries while making s'mores. The next day my husband took a nice run through the trails in the property and then we went off to breakfast (which starts at 9...yes!). Again, the food was just amazing. Yogurt with berries, granola, and seeds, milky eggs, country potatoes, delicious pancakes, and French press coffee. We then sat out by the pool and enjoyed the perfect 80 degree fall weather. For lunch, we were able to order sliders, tacos with drinks by the pool. Perfect breezy pool weather! For dinner, this time, we changed to the five course meal and we are so glad we did! Just every little item was so creative. And again, dessert was a hit: sweet potato cheesecake with a roasted marshmallow top and handmade cinnamon ice cream! Yum! (You can tell I love sweets). We then sat by the campfire again and this time Dennis (father of the owner of the establishment) sat with us and we all had great conversation before heading to bed. The next morning, we got up before breakfast and went on a nice hike with our baby strapped across my chest. The weather was great and we stumbled upon the lake. We sat by the dock and enjoyed a few minutes of peace before heading to breakfast. Breakfast was again a hit, and almost completely different stuff than the day before (only the same eggs). We checked out but decided to enjoy a few final hours by the pool. We were the only ones there and it was great. We asked Brian if we could order lunch but the staff had already left (guests had already checked out and left, so it was understandable) but he surprised us with a cheese plate and drinks for us to enjoy by the pool. What exceptional service! Every detail throughout our stay was just so well thought out, making our time incredibly enjoyable and something we won't forget soon. We are definitely making this a common staycation spot. It was just the perfect getaway we needed. We are even thinking of renting out the place for a weekend to enjoy with some family and friends, and I think there are only 7 rooms so totally doable. Thank you, HHH&F staff! You made us feel very special during our stay. We can't wait to come back again.

If you want to be treated like a VIP come here! From the moment I decided to book a few months ago I was treated like an extra special guest by Sara who answered my dozens of questions over several phone calls with patience and politeness. Since it was my birthday weekend I added on the 5 course chefs meal which was a bargain! Also did a wine tasting with it that was very very well done. As soon as you arrive you are greeted and shown around the property. Both John and Sara were there to answer any questions and give us a tour. My son and I had the entire main house to ourselves! Although originally I was supposed to go solo it was my son's birthday too and they were nice enough to accommodate him last minute. The place is amazing and everything you'd want in an old B&B plus a fantastic restaurant within walking distance! Service in the food barn was nothing to sneeze at either and we thoroughly enjoyed server Bradley's company and suggestions. Beware the food is rich as can be so pace yourself. I'm glad I ate early in the evening and at that still didn't go in for breakfast until noon. It's really a gorgeous rustic dining room! But don't let the remote country location fool you... it's quite the gourmet place. Everything was delicious and creative with gigantic portions. Luckily, there's a frig in the room for leftovers! There's plenty to do or you can do nothing which is also nice. Highly recommend for a relaxing romantic, solo or family getaway! Worth every penny and travel time to get here to enjoy this lovely property and amazing food! We even got to meet the owner who was super welcoming also. Will be back!

We celebrated Thanksgiving here and it was spectacular. The grounds are just gorgeous and the food was so much better than just your regular Turkey day fixings. We will definitely be back for other special events. The hotel looks like a romantic get away in the woods. If I wasn't already married this venue would be one to consider.

Neat venue out deep in the country near Cleveland, TX. They have a monthly wine, whiskey, and beer dinner series. This was our second time out. The food was very good, and the service was fantastic. Would have liked to have been able to order a cocktail (bar said they couldn't serve about 7 minutes before the designated seating time) but always a good time.

Zero stars, but I had to put one to submit. Had a medical emergency the week before I was supposed to head down to officiate my best friend's wedding. My best friend! So you know I wanted to be there in the worst possible way. Management was totally inflexible in a cancellation and a refund. Heartless. Money grubbing, no good, thieves. Enjoy the money you basically stole from us. I hope it brings you great joy and pleasure. I also hope that everyone reads this before booking, and that no one ever visits your Inn again.

This location is right outside of Sam Houston National Forest, it's super convenient after you take a long hiking trip, especially if you are out of town like me and the family, a short drive to rest for the day. We stay at the barn house Longview suite, it's beautifully furnished. The only small issue during our stay was the hand sink was backed up, water flow from faucet was very slow. Hand sink was cleared within couple hours after we reported the issue while we went out for dinner, but faucet probably is a bigger job, hopefully they can repair the whole thing soon. Other than that, the stay was awesome. Night sky view on the farm was beautiful, next morning we took a short walk, just realized the property is so big. Due to our tight schedule, we didn't stay for the breakfast at the restaurant, nor did we make a reservation for the dinner prior. It's certainly something we plan to try. With that say, we certainly will have to plan for another trip to stay there longer. Will definitely spread the words and let "good friends" know this secret heaven on earth.

We really enjoyed our stay at the bunkhouse which sleeps 6. There is a game room on the first floor which we had to ourselves and a beautiful pool and hot tub right outside the game room. The shower had a view of the forest trees. The room had a refrigerator and freezer, robes, included snacks and drinks, TV, L'Occitane toiletries. When we arrived we were given a tour of the grounds by golf cart and the staff was friendly. The 2 mile walking trail loop was relaxing and beautiful with all the trees and the pond. We had the 3 course meal and it was delicious. The chef himself brought out the dessert. The drinks we ordered wity the meal were delicious.
