We recently stopped by The Dirty Italian on Old Colony Ave to grab a couple of sandwiches for a picnic on The Common, and we were thoroughly impressed!Ambiance: The place is super cute inside, with a cozy and inviting atmosphere. They also have outdoor seating.Menu: They offer a wide variety of Italian staples you'd expect at a deli, including:* Sandwiches* Antipasto* Lasagna* Pastas* Cheese counter (Looked like they had an excellent selection)* Charcuterie menu* Snacks & ice creamWhat We Ordered:* Talya's Dirty Italian: High-quality cold cuts, but the sandwich was a bit dry (I think they missed the EVOO and vinegar).* The Godmother:An absolute must-try! I recommend adding their "Make it Dirty" hots.Tip: When ordering online the large (which is only $2 more than the regular) is about twice the size as the regular and is big enough for two.Overall: The Dirty Italian is a must-visit! We can't wait to go back and try more, especially the charcuterie menu.

"The Dirty Italian in South Boston was a major letdown. Honestly, it was probably the worst sub I've had in Boston. The chicken cutlets were anything but crispy--soggy and lacking the texture you'd expect from a decent sub. It didn't even hit the basics of what a chicken cutlet sandwich should be. Overall, a very disappointing experience."The service was a let down this was a over the phone order which I specified and I was given the wrong sub at first and had to come back to get the correct sub which I stated my name was Jay Jay but still was given a sub with my name being Dave.

Got the bada boom turkey sandwich for over $16 One of the worst sandwiches I've ever had ! Very little amount of turkey on a huge stale roll ?I ended up throwing half the sandwich away because the roll was so old and stale I couldn't eat it ! For now on I'll stick with the Southie staples of Rondos and Dough boy where you get fresh rolls daily and sandwiches are almost half the price with way more meat ! Ditty Italian is just another overpriced overrated yuppy joint invading Southie that will be out of business in a year Stick with old school shops like Sal's , rondos , doughboy and Alfredo's if you want great fresh food at great prices! How this has 4 stars is a joke ? Then they want you to charge you $1.50 more for hots or pickles ? Cmon ! That's just ridiculous price gauging

I was too lazy to make lunch, so I decided to grab some sandwiches at The Dirty Italian. I saw this place on the Phantom Gourmet and thought I'd give this place a try.The first sandwich I knew I wanted was one of their versions of the Italian sandwiches, so I went with the Frigo Classic in a Bada Boom, which is the largest size sandwich they offer. The sandwich was big, to say the least, and came on a braided seeded bread. If you get a bada bing the bread is not seeded and that's a regular size. This Italian wasn't bad, it was filled with the usual Italian cold cuts such as ham, mortadella, sweet capicola, and salami and I added hots to it. I liked this the most out of the three sandwiches I got here. It tasted like what I expected a classic Italian should taste like. If I return I may try something new or stick to this one.As for the other two sandwiches, the Hometown Hero, which I thought I'd like the most, ended up being the one I disliked the most. The downfall of this sandwich was the bbq and honey mustard sauce were too overpowering and too much sauce in general. Choosing one sauce would have been sufficient and the chicken I got was dry and tough. In short, this one is a thumbs-down for me. Then there's the Carnivore, I love a good roast beef sandwich and this was better than the Hometown Hero. However, it wasn't appetizing enough for me to eat anymore after a few bites. The bottom line is this sandwich shop is good. Not all the sandwiches offered will appeal to everyone, however, I'm sure there should be one people would like to try. I have yet to find one here I truly will go bananas over.

Big fan. I love coming here, grabbing a sub for lunch and also stocking up on some pre-made items like steak tips and pasta salad to eat later for dinner.

Ordered online and was a good experience. It was cute inside and had lots of Italian groceries to buy. The staff was all friendly even though it was busy. The prices were awesome too for the amount you get. I wanted to love it but I just didn't unfortunately. The Italian sandwich was good, the meat was good quality, veggies were fresh and the bread was soft. My issue was it was just a lot of bread for the filling ratio so it was sort of over powering the meat. It also was pretty dry (ordered it as is), so maybe adding a sauce would help it out a bit. Overall, it was pretty good and inexpensive at only $13 for a regular sizeThe Kickin Chicken sandwich was great in theory but unfortunately just didn't deliver. The chicken was dry and pretty thick and when coupled with the bread it just made it too dry that even the veggies and sauce on it did not help. May be better with extra sauce but would not get it again. This one was $15 for the large so again, the price was great but may not go back

We tried The Dirty Italian today, had very hi hopes based on youtube videos but was disappointed overall by staff, food quality and price. We ordered 2 hot sandwiches but the counter employee said the panini press was broken, I asked the owner what the issue was and she said it was too hot to use it ???? So the employed lied and the owner didn't want to use it, I guess they feel the microwave is better. They both were mushy and not even close to being toasted, I was expecting a Panini press I got MUSHY. It was very sunny and the umbrellas were not out, overall I just got a very lazy feel from this place and with the owner there it was a shock.
