The Baker's Man

I am a dessert/cake snob so anytime I'm in a new/different area, I always look up a new dessert to try. The Baker's Man had been on my list for a while so I decided to stop in. The owner was very nice, he made a great suggestion to get the sampler box since it was my first time. He had a great variety that day and was pleased by that. The cakes are cold, which...as a baker (though novice) and cake snob..I understand why. However, I DO NOT like cold cake. That being said...I was super hungry when I left and took a pinch of the red velvet. I can't lie...it was pretty delish even cold. Overall, I really enjoyed about 1/2 of the flavors (red velvet and funfetti being the most memorable, the others not so much (strawberry creme and pumpkin my least favorite due to flavor and texture). It was decent though. I'd still challenge someone to try it and I'll probably go back for a 2nd try.

I first tried The Baker's Man at the Urban Harvest Farmers Market when it used to rotate at Downtown City Hall on Wednesdays. I remember ordering the strawberry to enjoy after lunch, and it was go-to flavor... until I tried the lemon, and carrot cake.You can still find The Baker's Man on Saturdays at the Urban Harvest Farmers Market located on Buffalo Speedway (between Westheimer and W Alabama), 8am-noon. They're priced around $4 each, and for me, it's a good size for sharing. Seasonal flavors rotate (like gingerbread and pumpkin for the winter holidays), and he also has vegan options: Chocolate, vanilla, red velvet, and carrot cake.

These are some delicious bundt cakes!!! They are super soft and yummy, and just sweet enough. The owner is very friendly too. Loved their funfetti flavored (my toddler picked it)!

Came in for some dessert after going to the Flaming Heart and eating at Spicy Girl. Got the red velvet cake and it was pretty good. Not dry, sweet, and it hit the sweet spot.

Folks - don't delay! Cool new place with a real cool dude. His name is James, and he lives in Texas so that means he's a dude, but the cakes make him a really COOL dude. So what he does Is take a healthy helping of yummy and then he adds goodness to it, and what comes out is totally complete yummy goodness. Thanks Sir! Cool place!

This place made me love bundt cakes!!! I had an idea to form the number forty for my husband's bday and The Baker Man was excited to try it out. That says a lot about his passion and story for the love of baking! We played with the measurements to get the right look. He was professional and cost effective. Ok now to the delicious part!! He had a variety of flavors that all tasted rich and not artificial. My favorite was the chocolate one. I personally don't like chocolate cake because it tastes heavy on the Hershey's pallet but this was like a delicate Belgian truffle! (Like he used real cocoa powder and not brown colored flower with fake chocolate flavoring) My friends and I tried to guess the flavors and their favorite was the carrot cake. There are 2 flavors that look similar but it will surprise you in your mouth... I'm not telling which one is which!Environmentally-economically I do also appreciate that Mr. Baker Man chose to have his shop in a small space in Midtown that wasn't being used but a location with a lot of Houston vibe potential!

I was in search of a sweet treat after dining in the area. My son and I stopped into The Bakers Man to get some dessert and oh boy were we in for a treat. They didn't have many choices to choose from because it was so late but that's ok. We chose funfetti and strawberry crème. Man oh man they are sooooo good! Moist, thick, sweet, just perfectt. Can't wait to go back and try the other flavors. My son's review - 10/10 let's go again!

The lemon cake is so good I had to eat it with my eyes closed! I just wanted to remember the taste. Lol

I met it at discovery green park and since then it became my favorite pastry shop for any occasion

Absolutely loved the customer service and the yummy Bundt cake that was received today. Highly recommend the carrot cake. Note they also offer gluten free options. Thank you Baker Man I will be returning.
